Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The Veil in the Series: Sin Separates, Mercy Connects
- The September sessions continue the tabernacle study with the veil, the curtain of separation between the holy place and the most holy, the Holy of Holies, and hearers are urged to keep notes in their journals for future reference.
- Recapping the earlier lessons: behind the veil sat the mercy seat and the items of the ark, kept separate because sinful man needs mercy and cannot be exposed to the raw law of God.
- Sin still separates us from God, but mercy connects us to a holy God; studying the law's principles shows a person both how sinful he is and how gracious and merciful God is.
- The Holy of Holies was no place to hang out and chat: it was accessible one time a year, on the tenth day of the seventh month, the day of atonement, and everything depended on the high priest following every detail exactly.
The Old Order Still Standing When Jesus Came
- Whole systems, governments, and peoples rose and disappeared across the generations, yet the worship God spoke to Moses on the mount continued, and thousands of years later they were still doing the law.
- The Pharisees were noted for strict observance of the written law and their own oral traditions; the Sadducees, the traditional ruling class of priests, rejected what was not in the law, such as the resurrection and angels; the Sanhedrin sat as the supreme council of the Jews under the high priest.
- John's father was a priest in the order, and priestly things were still being done in the New Testament; John the Baptist called the religious folk of the day a generation of vipers.
- Jesus came into the middle of all that law — eating with sinners, defending the woman with the alabaster box — declaring what God meant in the beginning, while the influence of the religious groups began to wane.
Three Accounts, One Detail: The Veil Torn at His Death
- Mark's account is read: Jesus cried with a loud voice and gave up the ghost, "and the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom," and the centurion standing by confessed, "Truly, this man was the son of God."
- Luke, the physician, records that it was about the sixth hour, with darkness over the earth until the ninth hour and the sun darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst as Jesus commended his spirit into the Father's hands.
- Matthew's account adds that the earth did quake, the rocks rent, and the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves after his resurrection and appeared unto many in the holy city.
- Of everything in the temple — the ark, the mercy seat, the table of showbread, the altar of incense, the laver, the altar of sacrifice — the veil is the only item the gospel writers mention at his death, though they gave their accounts in different time frames.
Scriptures: Mark 15; Luke 23:44-46; Matthew 27:51
What the Veil Stood For: Separation from Mercy
- The veil's purpose was to separate sinful humanity from the mercy of God, so no one could run nonchalantly into his presence demanding for God to do something.
- Under the law given to Moses, access past the veil came one time a year, with every detail specifically followed.
- If anyone's eye ever looked past the veil, he would die instantly; there was no grace in it, and every priest and every person in Israel knew it.
- The temple in Jerusalem kept a veil made after the same pattern, until the city and temple were destroyed in 70 AD.
The Torn Veil: What Was Hidden Is Now Open
- When the veil was torn from top to bottom, everything behind it — mercy, law, provision, even life after death — was opened so any eye could look into it.
- The believer no longer has to stand at the gate hoping a man gets it right once a year; through the name of Jesus he can go into the Holy of Holies himself and ask for mercy.
- None of the other furnishings were mentioned because Jesus is all of them: in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; he is the water, the life, the forgiveness, the sacrifice — the veil once held sacred is still held sacred, and his name is Jesus.
Hebrews 10: Boldness to Enter Through the Veil, His Flesh
- The book written to the Hebrews is read from chapter 10: believers have boldness — assurance, security — to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.
- The way in is a new and living way consecrated through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, and Jesus is the high priest over the house of God.
- So draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and bodies washed with pure water, and hold fast the profession of faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised.
- The same reading joins the assembling to the torn veil: consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.
Scriptures: Hebrews 10
Provoke One Another: Do Not Forsake the Assembling
- If you stay away from church, you will lose your way and forget the power of a risen Savior; nobody shows up in heaven by accident.
- God can work anywhere, but his chosen way is through the body; forgetting the body forgets the entire purpose of the blood of Jesus.
- To provoke means to stir up purposefully — to provide the needed stimulus — so believers are to stir one another up to get into the presence of God, as the stirred-up church folk of the old days would not miss a service.
- Blessing is no excuse to drift: he tells of an elder who prayed for a man's job, then visited him when he stopped coming to church, because God did not bless him to stay out but to stay in.
- If anybody needs mercy, do not send them around Jesus — send them through Jesus; he is the door, the gate, the only way in.
The Challenge and the Closing Prayer
- He authorizes the congregation to call, text, or knock on the door of anyone who used to attend and tell them, "Pastor said get to church" — you need the church, the family of God, especially as the day approaches.
- The closing prayer thanks God that Jesus is the veil, and that through him we can approach grace and mercy and provision and love; there is no other way.
- He prays for revival — an outpouring in the city, victory in the name of Jesus, and a people stirred up to pray morning, noon, and evening as they see the day approaching.

We are continuing in our study of the tabernacle of the congregation. I trust that you are making some notes in your journals um for future reference for followup and so forth. my uh sessions, if you will, during the month of September, we are talking about the veil. The veil um the curtain of separation from the holy place to the most holy or otherwise known as the holy of holies. Um the uh progression that we have made from January to here has taken us down some pretty deep paths. I I I thoroughly enjoyed my portion of it and the other guys that are that are teaching, man, it's just a lot of really good information.
Um I I really I'm going to reiterate this trying to constantly remind us as a church. If we can understand God's purpose, his plan, his progression, his principles, if we can understand those things, then we can better submit ourselves to him. Now, how many of you know that living for God is a walk of faith? Because we walk by faith and not. Now, that's easier said and encouraged to someone else than to be done, right? But I'm also convinced through my life that I have learned that if I will dig out things, um there's you I don't think that the depth of God has yet been plumbed.
I don't think anybody's ever gotten to the bottom of the barrel and said, "All right, I've got everything I need knowledgewise." That's that's not God. That's not how he works. So, the um tabernacle of the congregation, follow along with us as we continue on our lesson number three. We continue the journey. We are connecting tonight. Tonight I want to take some time to connect Old Testament events with New Testament events concerning the veil. Now, every week we've talked, we've examined, we've looked.
Uh even the past couple of weeks, I have tried to uh the first Wednesday night that I taught this series, we spoke about what was behind the veil and why it was so valuable to protect it, to keep it separated. Why the mercy seat? Why the the items in the ark of the covenant? Why was it necessary to keep that separate? And I think we discovered the bottom line is that um we need mercy and we don't need to be exposed to the raw law of God. Uh it would definitely kill us. It would do it would do away with us. And God knew that about humanity. Last week we talked then about the colors, the materials, about the the curtain, the veil, about the wall, so forth.
uh the pillars talked about that and how that um inside the holy place and the holy of holies would have been a reflection of the angelics from the curtains from the the veil from the curtains that would have been there. Now, uh, everything had a purpose, right? Uh, God gave the specifics to Moses, instructed him on how to instruct them, and then God impugn, God gave to the the workers what they needed. Um, also every detail, every connected point, uh, every purpose was for the the purpose of drawing a sinful man into the presence of a holy God. Okay. Now, sin has consequences. Do we agree?
Sin, as a matter of fact, and even in today's technology, in today's understanding, sin still separates us from God. God is not a God of sin. I'm thankful for that. But mercy connects us to a holy God. So we've got to have both of those. Sin will separate you. Mercy will allow you to come close. That's what's on the other side of this veil. That mercy. So when we understand that, then we're willing to say, "Lord, I am a sinner. I I I I need help. I need I need direction. and I need something to help me. And when you study the law, the principles, the precepts of God, all of a sudden you're able to say, "Now I know how very sinful I am, but how very gracious and merciful he is." All right.
Now, the holy place and the holy of holies, the most holy place. God's plan was for for sinful man to come to him through mercy. And please understand, this was not a place to hang out. Uh the Holy of Holies was not a place where the high priest would go in and um draw up a stool and sit there and chat with God with his hot warm cup of coffee and just kind of meander through the day with conversation. It wasn't that. In fact, it was one time a year that it was accessible, right? The 10th day of the seventh month, Yam Kapor, the day of atonement. they were then it was occupied for a space of time.
That said, when we look at the effects that the high priest would have drawn, if you will, from being in the presence of God for that moment, for that short space of time, we then understand that everything was dependent on the high priest accomplishing his detailed description of things to make sure when he got there, he could handle the situation. Now, something about when we transition from Old Testament through all of the generations from Genesis up through the end of the writings of the minor prophets, generations came, generations went uh whole systems rose and whole systems were destroyed. Entire governments rose, entire governments fell to the ground.
uh peoples, tribes, things happened great and then things disappeared. Uh there are many in fact now places in in the world history that we don't have any kind of understanding of what they were about. Maybe a scribble here or a scribble there, but nothing nothing to speak of. You know, there's a lot of talk in even in the non-religious part of our world mentions Sodom and Gomorrah. Anybody ever heard those two cities? Anybody ever any Thank you. Anybody ever been there? Anybody ever been there? Why? It was what? It was destroyed, but yet we still have a fragment of information about it, but nothing nothing real deep or wide. It was completely done away with.
Now the reason I mention that is because my brain I can associate what a carburetor is on a car. I understand what a pipe wrench does. I I I I can better grasp the reality of uh because of my my what I do as a job other job number one two three four. Uh I understand frequencies and how sound works and I understand lights and how okay that stuff that I get. What I cannot understand though for the life of me is how that something that was established eons ago kept itself continuously and constantly moving. We see that very easily what the Bible speaks about in the New Testament that they were still following old Mosaic laws.
The Bible tells us, for an example, John the Baptist had a dad and a mom. What was John's dad's job? So, what would he have been? He would have been a high priest. He would have been a priest in the order. How is it that all the way into the New Testament they are still doing churchy things, priestly things, uh, sorry, better wording, tabernacly things. Now, we know the tabernacle in and of itself as the tent of the congregation had been done away with. Solomon built one. Man, it was to die for. Then they had one in Jerusalem. So there have been other houses that people built in order to entertain Jehovah God.
But it's so overwhelmingly intriguing to me how that in the midst of New Testament, they're still following these rules and these laws. Man, that just blows my mind. How is it that they even knew how to make incense still? How did they even know what what the veil would have been for? I mean, I I don't know about you, but there's things that my grandparents did that I really really don't understand. I'm sure it had meaning to them, you know. Um my my uncle passed away bunch of years ago. He lived with my grandparents till they died and then Okay, so there's there's that story. But we had to I had to go help clean his house out after he passed. And he had a five gallallon bucket of eggshells.
A whole five gallon bucket of eggshells. And all of us, my uncles, my my mom, all of us, my brothers, cousins, we're looking at this. We're all like them at them as eggshells. What were they for? They're eggshells. What do you do with five gallon worth of eggshells? They're eggshells. One my my uncle finally said other one he said I I think they're for a garden. Right. So we like well duh. And then one of my aunts said but he don't have a garden. I'm sure it made perfect sense to him. Anybody want to know? I don't keep eggshells. Now listen to me. A tradition, something on purpose. Where did he get it from? I don't know. Do we still do it? No.
You would think that there'd be something then about the worship under Jehovah that they would have missed through generations. But apparently, listen to me, apparently some form, fashion, shape, whatever continued and they were still doing it in the New Testament. Why am I going over this? I can tell you why. Because for us to understand this guys, this was not a passing fancy. This was not just something cool to do. This had such an impact that God spoke to Moses on Mount Si and said, "Do this. Do it this way. Make it happen like this. And when you do, this is what's going to happen. If you follow it, I'll be your God. You'll be my people." And thousands of years later, guess what?
They're still doing the law. Now, Jesus comes smack dab in the middle of all this law. All this law stuff's going on. Okay, follow me a moment. We understand then from old testament into new, they were still doing priestly things. They were still accomplishing the tasks that were required of them. In fact, in fact, listen to this. There were certain religious jobs in the New Testament that still held on to and instructed people on how to do these jobs. There was one group of people called the Pharisees. Anybody ever hear of the New Testament Pharisees? Everybody say Pharisee. Say Pharisees. That's an interesting word. It was a member of the Jewish sect.
So it would have been from the Mosaic line of the intertestamental period known noted, excuse me, for their strict observance of rights and ceremonies of the written law and for insistence on the validity of their own oral traditions concerning the law. These Pharisees were law guys. The law says it, the law, and we're going to do it. There's no other way around it. Done. And then another group decided, you know what? I I think I think we can have a little bit of leeway here. And so they were called Sadducees. Everybody say Sadducees. Yeah, that that'd been a hard word to come up with. Sad. Did you see that? I did. All right, never mind.
They were also of the Jewish community during that same time frame. their traditional ruling class of priests. They rejected the doctrines not in the law. For an example, the resurrection, retribution in future life, the existence of angels. Okay? You got a lot of things that are going on from the old priestly way into these new belief systems. And then just in case somebody had to be dealt with, there had they had a court of these priestly guys. And there they were known as the Sanhedrin. Now I'm just speaking a couple of these. There's a whole bunch more out there. Sanhedrin, they were the supreme council of Jews, if you will, during this time.
And they had a high priest and they were respons. They were very, very, very influential in their communities. You hear about this one for an example in the New Testament is what was his name? How many want that name? Yokaiis. I think that's a cool name. We don't use it a lot now, but he was the leader of this group. He had the ability to drop the gavl. He was over the court. His job would have been to say, "Yay, nay, maybe, or not." He was considered if you would to be the high priest of that time. Now I only mention those because for for clarity sake and for time I want us to understand they were still doing ritual. They were still doing the ceremonial things.
They were still following the how that God had established this from way back in the Mosaic law. Again, ma might I add here as a side note, how could it be that the details of how to do that are still in existence at that point, man, after all of the things that they had gone through, all the all the nations that rose and fell, all the governments, all the things that transpired. I mean, honestly, how in the world is that still hanging on? Could it be? Could it could it by chance? Could it be that God actually knew what he was doing? I mean, it's a thought. God actually had a plan that said, "From right now forward, this will be the way it is." Now, stay with me a moment longer.
Jesus comes on the scene. Everybody heard of Jesus. Everybody say, "Jesus." Everybody say, "Jesus." Say, "Jesus." Don't be afraid of it. Jesus. Come on. The enemy needs to hear you say it once in a while out loud. Jesus. All right. Um Jesus comes on the scene and this whole thing blows apart, right? There are such there are such interesting things that's transpiring here. First of all, John's dad can't talk until he is committed to the work of the Lord. That's just interesting. What was what was John's dad's name? Z. What? Thank you. See, I was going to say Zachariah. Y'all would have went, "What? He the guy that climbed the tree?" No. All right. So, John's dad is doing this job.
John is the cousin to Jesus. Jesus comes along and there's still church things going on that religious, let's call it, but Jesus comes to face to face with it. You guys remember? You remember when John the Baptist was doing his baptizy things? You remember what he called those religious folk of the day? What what was the words he used? What do he call them? Vip. You're a snake. Hey, it got worse. Your generation, your daddy was a snake. Your grandpa was a snake. Well, that probably would have went over really well, huh? And listen to me. They were they were doing the religiousy things for the wrong reason.
John comes along and buddy he's preaching it ain't he ain't about to back off and he's getting after it. And Jesus comes on the scene and Jesus he with all the love, mercy, grace he's got, man, he is just miracles are happening, great things are transpiring. He's going about the countryside. He's doing things. Some listen to this. Some thought that Jesus was foolish. Some even called him names. What' they call him? A wine what? Call him a drunk. He's eating with who? Sinners in public. Oh my. No, you better not hang out with this Jesus guy. He'll drag you to hell. I mean, it's They probably didn't have hell. He'll drag you to the other place. You'll get destroyed. Is that what it was?
They got they got mad because a lady broke a real expensive vase with perfume in it. I mean, their their intent was right. We could have taken that given to the poor. Yeah. Okay. Leave her alone forever. Forever she'll be talked about forever. And when we talk about her forever, it's going to be in the good way. Now, make sure anybody here named Judas, you know why? Nobody wants to call you that. You see there, the lady with the alabaster, man. Oh, yeah. Oh, wow. Judas. Okay. See? See what happened there? Listen to me, okay? Stay with me. Stay with me. Jesus knew that it was going to take time and influence to be able to turn the mentality of humanity.
If I may, Jesus came along to look religion right in the face and to declare what God meant in the beginning, what was supposed to be in the beginning. This was very, very strange at that moment. Come on. We, you and I have the Bible today. We can lean on it, run to it. We can consider it and all the stuff. But they didn't have any of that stuff. Huh? In fact, they thought Jesus was a heretic because he started reading and sat down. Oh, no. That's not No, we don't do it that way. You've got to do it this way. Who said that? Because that's just it's just what we do. Well, what if it's wrong? You can't say that. Listen to me. All of these things are going on. There's influence.
There's intrigue. Life of Christ was all but I mean it was just totally constantly people pulling at him, pushing on him, wanting him, not wanting him, wanting to destroy him, wanting to know him, wanting to get close to him, wanting to get away from him. Say it with me. The influence of these groups begin to wayne, begin to get short. The Pharisees couldn't understand. The Sadducees were even more mad. Can't talk about angels. Can't talk about resurrection stuff. What's wrong with you, boy? I got to watch my clock back there. G Jesus comes and he begins to preach what? The kingdom of heaven. And this whole religious group of the Sadducees said what? No such thing.
Jesus began to talk about angels in the heavenlies and they saidm Jesus began to talk about you're going to be raised to life again and they go there ain't no such thing as resurrection. Man boy I'm sure that that that camp meeting was real short. Okay here's my point. All of these things are going on, but notice something in the writings. We're going to go to the Gospels. Mark 15. Notice this. Mark 15:37. Jesus cried with a loud voice, gave up the ghost. Everybody say he died. Say he died. But verse 38 says what? And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.
And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out and gave up the ghost, he said, "Truly, this man was the son of God." Mark's account of the death of Jesus says what? Gave up the ghost and the veil in the temple was torn. What did Luke have to say about it? Let's look at the physician's word. Luke 23 verse 44. It was about the sixth hour and there was darkness over the earth until the 9inth hour. Sun was darkened. The veil of the temple was rent in the midst. When Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit." Having said thus, gave up the ghost. Say it with me. He died. So Mark reads writes about it.
Luke the doctor writes about it. What about Matthew? The guy who's got all this lineagey stuff going on. 27 of Matthew 51. And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. The earth did quake. The rocks rent. The graves were open, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves after his resurrection. and went into the holy city, appeared unto many. So we have three different accounts, Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Why didn't they say and the veil was rent and the ark of the covenant turned over? The mercy seat blew up. The table of shoebre exploded. The altar of incense melted. The labor of water got flipped over.
The altar of sacrifice was torn down. Why wasn't all of those other things put in there? This is their writing. And the only item they mentioned at the death of Jesus was what? The veil. The veil. Now, we all know this is not the original veil. The one that's here. This is the veil that they made to put in this temple where they were doing these rituals by the Mosaic law. But the symbol was that's separating us from mercy. Now we understand that Philistines came through back in the day. They ransacked everything. Things, parts, pieces began to disappear. Stuff began to go away. We we also understand that the king one time said, "Hey, let's go get the box.
Remember that somebody died because they touched it." Remember that? Okay, here's the point. When the New Testament was assimilated, when it was canonized, when it was put into order, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Rome, when all this stuff was laid out, these first four books were considered to be the most important because it was the written account that they had of the life of Christ. So, they translate it from the original Greek and they put it into the Bible and they begin to put this package together. And in all of these save John, they mention the veil.
I I look at this and I wonder why is it that these guys were so certain that they had to put in their writings about the life of Christ that they had to make sure the veil was mentioned, not only mentioned, but described as torn from top to bottom. easier said the veil didn't have a good day. The veil got busted. The veil got broke. But they pinpoint it in the origin of it to say the veil that was there when Jesus died. And I'm I I know this is in there because I've read it. I've studied this in times past.
I studied it again this week trying to make sure that I understand and I look at this and I'm like why did the writers of the good news of Jesus Christ the gospels why did they say guys when we write this our perspective we have to tell this part these were not written at the same time sit down over there Mark sit down Matthew we're going to sit here and write all these there was different time frames in which these guys were given giving their accounts. But all of these guys say, "You better know something. When Jesus died, something in the temple happened." Pastor, what are you trying to say? Why are you driving this home? Let me tell you something.
The work that was done in the tabernacle of the congregation was so valuable and so necessary, it held on through generations and generations and generations and generations. And for the for those who would try to even insinuate one moment that the tabernacle means nothing today, apparently they haven't read their New Testament. Because the purpose of this veil that we've already talked about was to separate and keep us sinful humanity from running nonchalantly into the mercy of God and demanding for God to do something for us. It was one time a year when all the details were specifically followed to make sure that it was done according to the law that Moses had been given. Is that correct?
So they thought it so necessary that even in the New Testament in Jerusalem they would have a temple and in that place they would make sure we got to have a veil. What was behind their veil? Anybody know? I would dare say some kind of box because they would have had access to the old scrolls. Oh, stay with me. Something happened in Jerusalem in 70 AD called what? Come on, Southerner. Where you at? It did what? It burned. It was destroyed, desecrated, nothing in there of value any longer. Anybody remember that in your history? So after 70, it wouldn't have mattered.
But to this point, the whole purpose that Jesus hanging on a cross, giving up the ghost, the veil in the temple of what they were doing responded to that death. Why does this matter? Well, I'm glad you asked. It's because if we understand the value between this side and that side of the veil, then we understand the pricelessness of that wall of separation. Now, Jesus died on a cross and guess what happened to mercy. Guess what happened to law? Guess what happened to to provision and and guess what happened to life even after death? Guess what happened to things that would have been represented in that ark? Guess what happened when those angels sitting on top called the mercy seat.
Guess what happened when that veil was torn top to bottom? Everything behind that veil now any eye could look into it. That is so hard to believe because from the origin of it, if you dared look at it, you would die instantly. There was no mercy to it. There was no form of grace. It wasn't three strikes or out. If your eyeball ever looked past the veil, the separating curtain, you would die. The priest knew it. The high priest knew it. And everybody in Israel knew it. Every every one of them knew this is the law. And yet here we are. Jesus has died 33 years old and this veil is brought back into the scripture torn. God was per translation making a statement. I demanded separation.
But that veil of purple, red, blue, and gold twin together was removed and replaced by the blood of Jesus. That ought to thrill every human being on planet Earth to think I don't have to let some man go in there once a year, me stand at the gate and say, "I sure hope you get this right." But instead, I can now go into the Holy of Holies and reverently through the name of Jesus, I can respectfully and with honor say, "Lord, I need your mercy. I know that you are law. I know that you are love. I know that you are provision. I know that you never die. But right now, I need to see mercy. And it was through the death of Jesus Christ that that veil was torn.
It should have had the same significance as it did in the original tabernacle. Agreed. I I would say that's what their intention was. They were going off a pattern that had been given thousands literally of years earlier. And these guys are putting all this together and they're trying to write this. And the only piece they can talk about is the veil. Why didn't they mention the altar of incense, the table of showbread, the golden candlestick? Why? Why were these not important? Was it not important to have light? Was it not important to have an altar to to kill the sack? Was it not important to wash? I didn't Why was that not mentioned? I'll tell you why.
Because in him dwells, come on somebody, all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He is water. He is life. He is forgiveness. He is perfectness. He is sacrificial. He is everything you'll ever need. Come on, somebody. You better know that. You know that. You know that it is the blood of Jesus, the power of a dead and risen savior that changes your life. This veil that was held so sacred is still held sacred and his name is Jesus. His name is Jesus. Now listen to me carefully. Notice how New Testament things this is. Now there's a there's a book in the New Testament that is written to the Hebrews. Okay, in Hebrews chap 10, notice this, right? This is so incredibly cool.
Hebrews chapter 10 verse 19. Having therefore, brethren, boldness, boldness, assurance if you will, security if you will, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus. Verse 20, by a new and living way which he hath consecrated for us through the veil. There's that word again. that is to say, his flesh, and having an high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart and full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Verse 23, let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised.
And let us consider one another, listen to this, to provoke unto love and to good works. 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching. The New Testament, notice the letter written to the Hebrews says it this way. You better know, understand it is through the blood of Jesus Christ that you are able to come into this holy place and this holy of holy place. You better understand it was that high priest Jesus that made a way for you. Listen to this. But in 2025, what's I'm not preaching, I'm teaching.
What's happening in our culture and our society is they're trying to say, "But it ain't important to get to church." Why was it written to the Hebrews, "Listen, do not forsake the assembling of yourselves. You need to be in church. You need to be connected to the body. The veil that was torn top to bottom was representation of Jesus. You need Jesus. This is so cool. Why? Notice verse 25. Verse 25 says, "Don't forsake the assembling of yourselves together." Why is that connected to the veil, the blood of Jesus? Why is the assembling of ourselves connected to the power of a risen savior, the blood of Jesus? I'll tell you why.
Because if you stay away from church, somebody needs to write this down. If you stay away from church, you're going to lose your way. You're going to forget the power of a risen savior. You can say it all you want to. I'll hang out at home. I'll make my own relationship with God, and I don't need nobody to get me there. That's a lie. And they knew that. And they said, "When you see the day approaching, you better get to church." Yeah, you better assemble yourselves together. Why? Because you're going to see through that assembly the power of a risen savior. Can God do anything? Absolutely. You know what he chooses to do? His way. And his way is what? Through the body.
Now, can God heal you at home? Yes, he can. Can God do? Yes, he can. Can God on a mountain? Yes, he will. But if you forget the body, you forgot the entire purpose of the blood of Jesus. Somebody say, "He died on a cross. He rose from the grave." Say it. I need to get to church and talk about that. All right. I'm here talking about the veil tonight. And the coolest part of the veil part, no, no, none of these other teachers in this whole series this year can do what I just did because none of them other things are mentioned. You're welcome.
But from the old Lord, I am so thrilled tonight to understand that the Lord God of all of creation spoke life, spoke order into the confusion and chaos, delivered things, put things into place, separated day and night, put the this, put the that, put the things in place. And then he talked to Moses and said, "I want to be with you, and this is the only way I'm going to be with you is if you'll do it this way. I'll give you the gold. I'll make sure you got the the the stones. I'll make sure you got everything you need to do it. But then in the end of it all, he said that, by the way, Moses, hey, Moses, listen, you want to know something?
If you went when that great cloud of witnesses that's been talked about, ask one of them that's from the New Testament. You know what they'll say? Yeah, we had a veil. His name was Jesus. Moses, you know what he was? I could. Oh, that would that'd be such a thrilling experience to stand there and watch Peter and Moses. Woo. Now, they wouldn't be dogging one another. Moses would say, "Well, I was given this and that and the finger of God." And Yeah. Peter would be all astonished, wouldn't he? Yeah. Man, that'd be cool. What about you, Peter? All I know is I once was lost and now I'm found and it was because of the blood of Jesus that I was allowed to come. You went into Yeah, I did. Yeah.
Were you the hyper? I'm just somebody who needed help. I'm a fisherman with a foul mouth and I needed forgiveness and redemption. And there it is. And I can see Moses now shouting and dancing. Peter's got him arm in arm and they're saying, "You know what? Our God is just right, perfect, and pure." come to help somebody tonight understand the way the way that we approach Jesus today better be the same way they approach that veil then now notice the word I'm watching my clock I've got a few more minutes notice the word the Bible says here verse 24 and let us consider one another what's it say to provoke what does it mean to provoke Evoke anybody? Encourage. What else? Do what? Poke the bear.
Absolutely. What does it mean to provoke? Motiv. Yeah, that's great. What does What does it mean to provoke? Encourage. What's it mean to provoke? Huh? Bible says parents don't provoke your children to rap. What are they saying? Don't poke the little bear. Okay, that we'll take it. The indication of provoke in many ways is negative. Agreed. So why why did the translators use that word provoke? It's the same meaning of the word in all the instances. I'll tell you why. Thank you for asking because to provoke by its definition that you and I understand to stir up purposefully to provide the needed stimulus for.
So the writer to the Hebrews says you better do what you got to do to stimulate somebody to get in the presence of God. You better do what you stir them up. Oh, you better get them stirred up. Some of us, listen to me carefully and again I'm watching my clock. Some of us used to, we're old style church folk. We We used to get stirred up back in the day. I wish I had somebody understood stirred up in church. Now, see there? See how weak that was? Yeah. Yeah. Cuz stirred up in the old days, man. We're going to church and I don't know when we'll get home. See, stirred up in the old days said, "I'm going to wear this to church and I probably won't look the same when I walk out the door." Right?
Huh? stir stirred up in the old days said, "I don't care that I worked a 12-h hour day today. The house of the Lord's open. I'm getting to the church house." So stirred up meant there's seven nights a week, seven weeks in a row of revival, and I ain't going to miss one of them. Come on. Stirred up means I'm going to provoke you to say, "You better get to church." Why? Because if you miss it here, you're going to miss it there. Pastors tell us all the time growing up, ain't nobody going to just show up in heaven on accident, surprised. Woo, where am I?
Every single soul that walks through those pearled gates, if you will, they're going to say, "Woo, been waiting on this, looking for this a long time. I've been determined every day. I've been decided every day. My name's in the book. I heard him say, "Well done. I've got my reward. I know why I'm here. Stir up." Listen to me carefully. Don't get mad if somebody texts you, heaven forbid, calls you, or even worse, shows up on your doorstep like the old-timers used to do and say, "Hey, I ain't seen you in church lately. I I ain't seen you in church lately. Well, I've been, you know, uh, boy, I get myself. I'll tell it only because it's been told a billion times.
Elder Mcool up in Knoxville, my son's bishop in his church. He's 89 years old, I think. He tells often the testimonies of a young man, a young couple knew at his church that I don't have a job, pastor. I need a job. Well, I'm going to pray God give you a job. He got a job. God provided. The man was blessing the church. Things were happening. And then he started missing church. He missed one, two, three services. Pastor said, "I went and showed up at his door, knocked on his door. He pastor, I haven't seen you." He said, "Yeah, I've been missing you at church." He said, "You know, I've been working so many hours." And he said, "Well," and they talked for a few moments on the front porch.
And his testimony, he said, "You know what? Can we pray before I leave?" Yeah, I'd love for you to. Good. Lord God, I'm asking you now. Take this man's job. Send him to the ground. Let him lose everything in his Whoa. Whoa, whoa. What are you doing? Well, apparently you misunderstood the blessing of God. He didn't bless you with a job so you stay out. He blessed you so you stay in and keep loving him. See, I I can tell you I can give you right now on this hand, I can count six or seven times through people in my lifetime that I have known that didn't weren't worth shooting. And God blessed them, began to do things.
They got jobs they didn't deserve, educations they didn't deserve, and all of a sudden they got all the stuff they God's been good to them, and now the crickets in their lives, and they want to get all mad and upset and blame God when their job don't send them to the very top. I'm I hold on a second. Your job you got, you didn't get. Think you're that smart, all that in a box of cracker jack, that ain't you. I know you're a high school dropout. You probably can't re you're probably lexic and everything else. You don't can't multiply 72 times 91. You can't do none of that. You all you mad because you don't get that job. Don't get mad about that. Am I right? Come on, Lord. I'm meddling now.
I'm a pastor. I'm meddling. I'm trying to get out of there. The veil. The purpose in the veil was for Old Testament came to New Testament to say the body, the blood of Jesus became the separation. If you need mercy tonight and anybody in your life, on your job, in your world needs mercy, do not send them around Jesus. Send them through Jesus. I feel the Holy Ghost in this room. You know how you want to get, you need to mercy, you need to get to Jesus. I I know I need Jesus. I need mercy. Absolutely. There's your There's your door. There's your gate. That's how you get in right there. See, time doesn't permit me tonight to I got next week, my last one next week.
You don't even know what's going to happen. I I'm looking at how, you know, recently I I talked in one of the lessons about how that the high priest would stand by the altar of incense with the blood and the incense to go into the Holy of Holies and he would be translated, transported through the veil. There's no opening. God would draw him through it. Now, it only makes sense, brother Rob. Why? Because Jesus was the representation of you stand there with the blood. You stand there with your praise. I will draw you in. And if I will be drawn, if I will be lifted up, if I will be exalted, I will draw men to me. Stand with me, please.
So, if you're so inclined tonight and you you feel like that you can accept the challenge, I'll challenge you with this and and somebody might take it and accept it and move on it. Listen to me carefully. I give you the authority pastor of this church. I give you the right and the authority to somebody who used to be in our church is no longer here. You call, text, knock on their door and say, "Pastor said get to church." Well, why? Because if not, you're going to go to hell. Is there any better way I could say that? I don't need church to get Yes, you do. I didn't say you need this one, but you need the church. You need the family of God. Especially as the day is approaching. Why?
Apparently the days are going to change and get hard. Pray with me. Lord, tonight we are so so thankful to know you. Come on church, pray with me. The opportunity, Jesus, to know your name, to know the power of your name, to know the victory in your name, to know, Lord, the purpose in your name. You you brought us, Lord. You drew us. You called us out of darkness into this marvelous light. You show your way to us, God. You you give us a plain path to walk, Lord. You you you bring us close to you, Lord Jesus, because you are the veil. You are the separating part, Lord. And through you, we can approach grace and mercy and provision and love and kind. We can get that through you.
There's no other way, Lord. It is your name, your church, your your blood sacrifice. Lord, it is you, Jesus, that makes all of the difference in the world. Our world so desperately needs you now. Their hunger, they're screaming. They're they're whailing, Lord, for you. Nature is even crying out to you right now. I believe, Jesus, that your coming is soon, Lord. The word of God doesn't lie. It's forever established. And I'm asking you, Lord, Jesus, in this moment that you would give us this space of time and let us rise to the occasion in the name of Jesus. We know there's an end time revival.
There's going to be a falling away, but there's also going to be an outpouring, and we're going to trust you for the outpouring. I rebuke the enemy that's trying to discourage folk from being in church. I speak against distractions and wickedness in high places. I believe there's victory only in the name of Jesus. I know God that there's no weapon that is formed against us that will prosper unless we are the ones that engage those weapons against ourselves. We're victorious through the word of our testimony through the blood of Jesus Christ. I believe you, Lord, that this hour is the greatest hour for the body of the Christ. I believe the church is triumphant. I believe we walk in victory.
I believe there is glory to glory to glory to those who will stand in the face of Jesus with praise and adoration and love. Uh you will not deny those that come to you with a broken and contrite heart, but you'll be near to those that'll be hungry for you. We want revival in our city, God. Uh we want every bar stool to be empty, dear God. Uh we want every drug house to be shut down. Uh we want every hope helpless place God and every hopeless person to find hope in you. Uh the name of Jesus. Come on church. Do you believe heaven is real? Then you better be reaching for Jesus. Uh you better get him alive and active in your life. Uh stir up the gift. Uh stir it up inside of you.
Uh stir it up inside of you. Uh pray in the morning. Pray at noon time. Pray in the evening. Talk to God. Spend time with him as you see the day approaching. He is the veil. I wish we should grab a hold of somebody's hand as we transition. Pray one for another. God, we want revive. We want revelation in our church tonight. We want revelation in our church tonight. The true power of the name of Jesus. The true power of the word of Jesus. I plead your blood over this place. Uh I rebuke darkness. I push it back in the name of Jesus. I speak against it in the name of Jesus. There is victory in the name of Jesus. There's no other way. There's no other name. There's no other baptism.
There's no other truth. There's no other life. There's none other none other but the name of Jesus. Oh, come on. Believe in it. Believe in it. It's bigger than you. It's Jesus. Oh, come on. We'll transition. The singers will come, but right now, just spend some time loving the Lord. Get close to him. Jesus, I need you. Oh, God, I need you. Uh, sweet Jesus, I must have you. Uh, I must have you, Lord. I can't do it by myself. I am nothing without you. All of my righteousnesses, they are as filthy rags. I I must have you, Jesus. Oh, come on, pray with somebody close to you. Lord, let there be revelation of your glory and your anointing in their life. In the name of Jesus.
In the name of Jesus, the veil, the veil, the veil, his flesh, his blood. He is the veil. He is the veil. The name of Jesus. The name of Jesus. Oh, the power in the name of Jesus. The uncction, the anointing, the glory of the name of Jesus. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Oh, come on. Somebody needs to pray. Somebody needs to get a hold of God on a midweek university. Somebody needs to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Somebody needs to desire the sincere milk of the word. Come on. Some of you young folk need to get right up next to Jesus right now. Wrap your arms around him if he lets you. Let him wrap his arms around you. If you'll let him spend time communing with him. Lord Jesus, I need you.
I need you. I trust you. I believe in you. Lord, I'm nothing without you. I must have you. Salvation comes in your name. There's no other name like your name, Jesus. Only you can satisfy the heart of a man. Only you can satisfy the heart of a man. Hallelujah. With hands lifted up, they're going to begin to sing with hearts filled with praise, with mouths filled with adoration. Offer it to the Lord. Give him praise right now. Everybody, lift your voice. Come on, lift your voice to the lamb. You're worthy. You're worthy. You're glorious. You're glorious. You're glorious, Lord. You're excellent in all of your ways, Jesus.
