Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Arriving at the veil
- Since the first of the year the class has journeyed through the tabernacle of the congregation from the outside in — the perimeter, the outer court, the altar, the laver, and into the holy place with the table of showbread, the golden candlestick, and the altar of incense — and now stands before the veil.
- God was very intentional with His design for humanity: there was no room for error, and He provided every material the tabernacle required — gold, bronze, linen, silver, wood, incense — then gave Moses specific directions for what to do with them, promising to come down and dwell there.
- This lesson opens a study of the veil itself; tonight lays the groundwork — why it was so vitally important to protect what was on the other side of it.
The veil of separation
- The text describes the veil of blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen with cherubim worked into it, hung on four pillars overlaid with gold, distinct from the hanging for the tabernacle door.
- Daily the priests ministered in the holy place at the table of showbread, the golden candlestick, and the altar of incense, but something stopped them beyond the altar of incense: they could not push the veil back, force their way in, or allow themselves to enter.
- Everyone was taught from childhood that no one could go into the Holy of Holies and live, except the high priest on the Day of Atonement; mishandling any part of the tabernacle showed a lack of reverence for the God of all creation, and there was no room for error.
Scriptures: Exodus 36:35
The law given on the mountain
- God had spoken to Moses on the mountain and given him laws — the Ten Commandments on tables of stone written by the finger of God, with 613 detailed laws in all — instructing the people in the thou shalt and thou shalt not that marked them as His people and Him as their God.
- While Moses was still on the mountain, the people grew impatient for something to worship and came to Aaron, who took their gold earrings and jewelry and formed the golden calf; they worshiped it the way the Egyptians worshiped their idols.
- Moses came down carrying the tables, saw the sin and idolatry, and broke the two tables of stone; he dealt with their transgression, grinding up the gold, putting it in their drinking water, and making them drink it.
Scriptures: Exodus 20
The second tables: the name of the Lord proclaimed
- God told Moses to hew two tables of stone like unto the first and come up Mount Sinai in the morning alone — no man was to be seen on the mount, and no flock or herd was even to feed before it — and the Lord descended in the cloud, stood with him, and proclaimed the name of the Lord: "The Lord, the Lord God, merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and abundant goodness".
- God had cut the first tables Himself; this time Moses had to cut the stones and carry them up and back down, and God again wrote on them the words that were in the first tables.
- Unlike the first giving, this time God also spoke of mercy and compassion toward His creation; Sloan walks through the thirteen attributes of God drawn from that proclamation — compassion before a person sins and compassion after, the power to bestow kindness, merciful, gracious, slow to anger, plenteous in kindness and in truth, keeping kindness unto thousands of generations, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, and pardoning.
Scriptures: Exodus 34
What the veil protects
- The ark on the other side of the veil was a box containing three things: Aaron's rod that budded, showing it does not need to be planted for God to grow; a pot of manna, God's provision that did not spoil; and the tables of stone — not the originals, but the law now bathed and intertwined with mercy and compassion, for if it were raw law alone, he says, "I would die".
- The veil itself was about a handbreadth thick, wound and intertwined, too heavy and bulky to fold up and carry under an arm; it was also laid over the ark when the tabernacle was transported so that no one could see it and die, and every move had to be made with complete understanding of how to reassemble it.
- This inner veil had no door and no opening; historians declare that the high priest, having done everything required from the altar to the laver to the holy place, would stand beside the altar of incense with his blood and incense on the Day of Atonement and wait for God to draw him through, and wait again to be allowed back.
- The separation protects people as much as it guards God's majesty: sin cannot be taken into the presence of God, who has already examined the one drawn in; and though Jesus came to fulfill the law, He fulfilled it with mercy, compassion, and love, and shows mercy at His own will and bidding, not on human demand.

Well, I've learned this in later in my life as I get older. I'm watching and I'm listening constantly. I'm listening for that certain trumpet sound. Anybody else? Is heaven still real? I'm listening for that trumpet sound that says, "Come on, it's time for the bridegroom to come home." Amen. The bride and the bridegroom to get together. Tonight, I am excited to be here.
I haven't taught in a couple of months, so I've got 72 lessons to compress into a few weeks. Um, try to be mindful of the clock. That's why they put it on that back wall back there. Uh, since the first of the year, just a bit of history, since the first of the year, January, we began our journey through the tabernacle of God, the tabernacle of the congregation. We begin to talk about God's plan for humanity included a place made for him. tabernacle was going to be God's presence and going to be God's existence with the children of God.
From the beginning of the year, we started from the outside of the tabernacle. Talked about the perimeter and then we went through the out outer court, the the outer curtain. Then we came through the front into where there was an altar. We talked about that there was a labor, a pool of water. Talked about that. And then went into the holy place. And in the holy place, we started we we talked about the table of shoebre. We talked about the golden candlestick. And then brother Gibson in August, he finished that piece of furniture called the altar of incense.
Anybody glad to now be in the holy place? That's where we are in our study. Uh the details, the precepts that God was establishing uh with humanity. That's what we are investigating. That's what we are inquiring about. I I I think that we can all probably come to the same conclusion. God was very intentional with his design for humanity. Once again, God was very intentional with his design. How many you know that God is a God of details? God is a God of details. For an example, when when God pulled out of the dirt humanity and breathed into it, how many you know that God knew exactly what he was doing?
Um, God knew how to do what he did. All the systems and all the things that go on in our bodies today, God put that into motion. That's how detail oriented he is. I I I really think also that as we have studied over the last several months that there was no room for error. There was no room to simply do the best you could and walk away when it didn't make sense. No room for error. God gave, listen, this is so cool. What we have discovered in the last several months is this.
God gave to humanity every single thing they would need to make this tabernacle. God provided gold. He provided bronze. He provided linen. He provided silver. He provided the wood. He provided the incense. All of those things. Now, humans had to go gather it. They had to go cut it down, form it. They had to melt it down and cover it. You understand? They had to beat the Okay, but God provided God God even, you know, God is so intentional. Check this out. God didn't say to humanity, listen, go somewhere and find a I don't know, let's call it a cow.
and there not already be a cow. I mean, they didn't have to make up that thing. What if God What if today God were to tell us to bring that? What would we do? Bring a Slaga flip and we'd all be out there fabricating this a flat flip. Now, if you were from the old school, you'd know what a woozle was, but we wouldn't do a woole. We need the Oh, that was But God gave everything. Everything. The wood you'd put on the altar, the water you'd put in the labor.
Isn't that cool that God put everything on the earth and then gave specific directions to Moses, this is what you do with that stuff. And when you get it all together the way I tell you to do it, I will come down and I will dwell there. What an awesome, wonderful God we serve. So, we're going to continue. It has fallen my lot and I am so thankful for. We're going to continue uh our journey through the Old Testament tabernacle, the congregation. We have gotten to the holy place and and brother Gibson brought us to the altar of incense for the last several weeks.
We then approach what probably I would say in my estimation, in my study, the the next piece that we come to probably carries the most incredible amount of intrigue and details that we cannot find. How many is interested in the things in the holy place? I I I think it's very interesting. Now, keeping in mind, for an example, I I discussed with you all a few months ago on the table of shoebre uh the the recipe used for the bread is no longer available. Nobody knows what it just it just went.
Now, keeping in mind that in 70 AD all a lot of Jerusalem burned and so a lot of instructions or things would have been taken out. You know, then there's been other times that libraries were were burned and that people lost their way. But the interesting thing about where we are going tonight at beginning tonight is uh I think it's probably probably one of the most intriguing parts of this tabernacle, the congregation. Exodus chapter 36. Let's begin there. Verse number 35. Exodus 36:35. And he made a veil of blue, purple, scarlet, fine twined linen, with cherubams made he it of cunning work.
He made there unto four pillars of shidum wood, and overlaid them with gold. Their hooks were of gold. And he cast for them four sockets silver. And he made an hanging of the tabernacle door of blue and purple and scarlet fine twine linen and of needle work. And the five pillars of it with their hooks. He overlaid their chapters and their fillets with gold. The five sockets were brass. This is two separate items here. Several months ago, the we talked about the curtain of separation that brought you from the labor of water into the holy place.
That that veil again, that curtain of separation. It was here in the book of Exodus that the command was given to Moses on how he needed to approach this. God instructs Moses to assemble a curtain. This was the curtain, if you will, that came from the outer court to the holy place. That curtain, once the priest did his job, once the workers in the tabernacle accomplished what they were to do, then they would simply gently push aside once they were cleaned, washed, read, everything was spotless.
They would come into the holy place. The veil would close behind them and then they could see because of the golden candlestick. They could replenish the oil there because the they could see they could also replenish the bread that was on the table of showbread and the frankincense that was there in small basins. And they could also make sure that they had the proper incense for the altar of incense. In this they passed in through this separating place into the holy place. Now, if you have paid attention and made in your notes, there was specific details to the covering of this room, this this box, let's call it.
And it was in this place that there was specific materials that were covering the whole thing. Inside also was purest of gold that would be made into the walls. You can Look at the model over here. It's got some pretty specific details. The Bible says that daily the priest would minister in the presence of the Lord at the altar of incense, the table of shoebre and the golden candlestick. But something stopped them beyond that altar of incense. And it was simply called the veil. There was no way that they could pass through that veil.
They could not push it back. They could not make their way in. They could not force their way in. They couldn't allow themselves to go into that holy of holies because everyone from the time they were born as babies they were taught no one can go into the holy of holies and live except you be the high priest on the day of atonement. Yam Kapor that day he would go in do what he did requirement of the law and then he could turn and come out.
It is that curtain of separation that I will spend this month on. And the interesting thing about this is if you mishandle any part of the tabernacle of the congregation, it shows that you don't reverence and you don't respect the God of all of creation. Therefore, listen carefully. The parents of all children, grandparents, great grandparents, children, teenagers, young folk, they spent time instructing all of the children of Israel. This is how it's done. This is what it's for. And there is no room for error. Understand that.
So knowing that the altar of incense was a continuous smoke that came up. It filled that holy place. It was right before the veil. And there's no way that you could even understand what was going to happen behind on the other side of that veil because you were not permitted to go there. You simply would stop at the curtain, the veil of separation. All of the details that were given to Moses, Moses would pass along to the workers. And he would he would make sure then that they sought God for the wisdom to know.
Boseel and Aoleab, they were the two guys that God infused wisdom into them. They would seek God on what was needed next. And they would understand by the wisdom of God. They would work with fine linen. They would work with gold. They would work with materials. God gave to them what was needed to fulfill the plan of God. Now I bring you tonight to this side still the holy place side of the veil. Before we go into more distinct the next few weeks of the veil and then how to pass to the other side.
Tonight, I feel like that we need to understand why it was so vitally important to protect what was on the other side of that veil. Before we go into those details of the veil, allow me tonight to lay some groundwork for the next few sessions. You with me? God had given to Moses a set of laws. We all know this because we know through the book of Exodus 20 through30, chapters 20 through30, God had specifically spoken to Moses on a mountain and gave him all the details that he would need to know.
Also, we can see that God gave to Moses laws. Everybody say laws. We call them the ten commandments on stone that God pulled out of the rock and with the finger of God. It is noted God wrote on the rock and then he gave those set of laws to Moses. We call them the Ten Commandments. They're commands, their rules, their restrictions. Now, we all know through more study that there was actually 613 detailed laws that was attached to the children of Israel. But these were the ones that God gave to the people of God before things began to happen as they traversed and went to the next place where they were going to go.
All of these laws, these boundaries, these restrictions God gave to the people and In so doing, he was instructing them, "Thou shalt not, shalt not, thou shalt thou shalt." He was leading them to understand the basic fundamental reasons that God called them his people and they could call him their God. Anybody feel like you're in class tonight? Good. We're going to learn something. This is so incredibly cool. These two tables of stone is what God sent Moses down the mountain with. so that he could explain to everybody what had happened on the mountain.
But lo and behold, we find out in the middle part of chapter 24, something transpired there. Moses, the Bible said, came down from the mountain and something was happening in the camp of the children of Israel. Anybody remember what it was? They were dancing around the golden calf. What is that called? What is it called deeper? And another word, three letters, sin. Idolatry is sin. In fact, Moses brought with him under his arm, if you will, what thou shalt have no other. Okay, these guys weren't privy to it yet.
Moses still had them. He was carrying them, but something transpired there. Now, you can read the account, and we've even read it a time or two in this study, how that the people of God came to Aaron and said, "Make us something. Make us something. We got a hankering to worship at southern for we would like to worship so build something. And so the Bible says that Aaron of course he did what he did. Took the gold earrings and the jewels they jewelry they brought melted it down and poof out of the fire came a cow.
Not how it happened. It was formed. But here's the thing. God was going to interact with his people. God knew full well the processes of humanity. Follow the follow what's going on here. God had already begun the conversation with Moses. This is what you do. This is how you do it. This is how it'll be played out. God had given him the law. And then in that particular moment when Moses came down, God said, "I want my people to worship me, and this is how they must do it." All the while, the people on the bottom of the mountain are wreaking havoc on their souls and their imaginations.
They are teaching things to their children and grandchildren. They are making merry. They are dancing and worshiping around a golden calf. And we all know the story how that Moses came down and he got upset. He broke the two tablets that God had given to him. I I know that today in 2025 we could wax eloquent and we could say, "Well, Moses then didn't respect that or it was just a terrible thing and there's no way I would have done that." Well, the fact remains Moses has been in the presence of God like no one else.
He is literally on cloud 12, not nine. He went to the next level. The very voice and presence of God is there with him. And all he can see now at the bottom of this mountain is the sin and the desires of the people to worship anything. The laws and the precepts that God gave were given to Moses so that he could help lead the people. We can read in Exodus chapter 20 through chapter 31 that all the plans that God had. But then something happened in chapter 32.
We see here that God's people were impatient and they wanted something, but they didn't know really what they wanted. They knew that there was going to be a place or some kind of something established for them to worship. But the Bible even says by their vocal, by what they voiced, they said, "We we want something and so let's do it like the Egyptians would have done it because we understood how they worship their idols." Moses comes down. He breaks the tables of stone and he's upset.
Moses deals with their transgressions. You can read the story. He ground up the gold, put it in their drinking water, and made them to drink that. And then something else happened. The Bible says in Exodus 34 verse1, the Lord said unto Moses, this is chapter 34 verse one, "Hue thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables which thou breakest." Verse two, and he and be ready in the morning, come up in the morning under Mount Si, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.
Verse three, and no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount, neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount. Verse four, he two tables of stone like unto the first. And Moses rose up early in the morning, went up to Mount Si as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his the two tables of stone. Verse five, and the Lord descended in the cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed by before him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord God, merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and abundant goodness, truth." Now, here we are.
The first two tables, commandments are written there. You can read about those in the book of Exodus. When Moses descends off the mount, things happen. Tables are broken. Moses deals with it. But then we see God again proclaim to him. Moses, I want you to now cut two two tables of stone and bring them. Keep in mind for your notebook, God cut the first ones, sent him down the mountain. Moses had to cut the second ones. Listen to this. and carry them up the mountain and then back down.
I don't know about you, but I'd be a little disgruntled with a bunch of folk. I got to lug these up this mountain. Stay with me. Something happened. Bible says that God again writes the laws on the tables of stone that Moses had cut. Something that I in my studies the last several months in this I I understand that in what we now call and we understand as the ark of covenant that's on the other side of this veil. It's a box. It's gold. There's it's it's it's a compartment.
We'll study about it in the next couple of months. You'll get into all the details of it. But for tonight's lesson, simply let me say this. That box contained three items. It was Aaron's budding rod to show it doesn't need to be planted for God to grow. It number two, a pot of mana, provision of God didn't go spoiled like it did before. God was demonstrating again to the people that he could constantly be their provision. But the third thing were these tables. We Okay. So I I'm I'm looking into this and and again I am not here to teach on the mercy seat.
I'm not here to teach on the ark of the covenant nor any of that. But the reason tonight I wanted to begin this series on the veil is because I want us to understand what is actually going on behind this thing. the value, the respect and the awe that the people of God would have to have to understand fully the value of this veil. As I begin to study this, there are two ways that you could study about this. One's called the Torah. The Torah is the verbal.
This is what was spoken. pass past the talid is another way it's a written account that you can read about it's passed by the rabbis and there are talmets today that you can read about we understand the first five books of the Bible that Moses pinned were called the pentatuk those are the Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers and Deuteronomy that was God's connection to humanity the Levitical law how God worked how God inter everything that God did for humans you can find in those first books. But the more I read on on on this particular account, the veil, something came to my attention that I don't really know that I have understood.
And with clarity, I began to delve into it. You can imagine with me that God speaks to Moses and says, "I have written with my finger in these tables and I need you to pick these up and carry these down with you. That's the first set. There are 10 written there. But then the second set when Moses ascends the to the up to the mount of si again, something changed. Notice here what we read just a moment ago is that as the Lord commanded him, he took in his hand the two tables of stone.
The Lord descended and the cloud stood with him there. This is verse five of of chapter 34. Stood with him there, proclaimed the name of the Lord. Lord passed by before him and proclaimed the Lord, the Lord God, merciful, gracious, long-suffering and abundant in goodness and truth. God did not say that the first time that we have written knowledge of the second time when God came down to impugn one more time to Moses by writing in these tables that he had brought I came across this so cool that there's was known as the 13 attributes utes of God.
So I began to study that. What does that have to do with the commandments? Because so many times we we simply understand thou shalt not, thou shalt not, thou shalt, thou shalt, right? And we get that. But now there is a hint of God's mercy and compassion towards his creation. Humanity would not have been there in the first account. Listen carefully. This is what it looks like. Attribute number one, Yave. YHVH, compassion before a person's sins. Number two, Yave Yh VH, compassion after person has sinned.
Number three, Lel, possessing the power to bestow kindness. Number four, Rahoon R a Hu M. Merciful that humankind may not be distressed. Number five, veh capital Hu N. And gracious if humankind is already in distress. Number six, Eric. Capital E lowerase r kh aim. A p a y i m. slow to anger. Number seven, V Rick, capital V E, capital R A Y, and plenteous in kindness. Number eight, ve capital V, lowerase C, capital E, me, and truth fulfilling his promises. Number nine, not n o t z r.
Keeping a kindness unto thousands of generations enlarged as a word. Number 10. Noth capital n o s e h. Shavon a v o n. Forgiving iniquity. Number 11. Capital V lowerase A capital F E A S H A A and transgression 12 V capital V lower E capital H A T A TY ah anen number 13 N capital V lower case C capital N A K E H and pardoning. Listen carefully. Began to read this and I I finally I think understand after after long years of of understanding about the ark of the covenant and God's presence and God's incredible mercies.
The reason again that I wanted to begin the study of the veil on this is because when we consider what was in the ark of the covenant, we understand Aaron's bod uh bud that that Aaron's rod that buds and we understand the pot of mana. When we look at tables, these would not have been the original ones, but God would have demonstrated in writing the law and mercy to you and I today. that needs to be protected now more than ever before. It was not simply a seat of mercy where cherubams hovered above that in gold and sat there upon.
It needs to be more than that. It needs to be something that you understand that if it were a raw law, I would die. But God made sure that from that generation forward that mercy would be applied. And the only way that he could give that instruction was to first of all have compassion before a person sinned. Secondly, have compassion after the person has sinned. Thirdly, a possessing the power to bestow kindness. Fourth, to be merciful even if you're distressed. And then to be gracious even if you're already distressed.
And then to be slow to anger, then to be plentous in kindness. And then to be to be truth and fulfilling his promises, and then to be keeping kindness to all the generations in the future. and then forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin and pardoning. The reason I bring it to here tonight in this first lesson, friend, is because so many of us maybe we understand mercy and grace, but I dare say most of us don't. We can sing about it. We can talk about it.
But to truly understand that the God who opened his mouth and spoke worlds into existence, that is the God who with his proverbial finger. Did you know God does not have a hand that owns a finger? But yet we have the writing here that the finger of God wrote on these stones. How do you think that happened? I don't know. The more I study, the more I recognize I don't know. I do know this. God can do anything. Say amen. But imagine the man of God standing there in that cloud as the very aura and presence and mercy and grace and love and kindness and gentleness and all those things comes down and begins to simply breathe etchings onto those stones.
You better know there's going to be a way that God says you need to separate that from the common everyday man. Listen to me. There is no way that in the Old Testament with the tabernacle of the congregation that you could haphazardly walk by on the outside and simply give a thumbs up. There's mercy right there and I'm do it because of who I am. We are reminded every time we stand before the veil. What is behind that veil is not only the law of God, but his mercy, his compassion, his desire to say, "I can reach you where you are if you will let me." Now, in that arc, in that box, I alluded to this this last week here.
This veil is is not something you would fold up and put under your arm. This is not something that you would throw twine around and simply throw it up over your back and carry it around. A hand breath was the width of this. The thickness of this that's that thick of this curtain. Wind intertwined. Wind and intertwined. Wind and intertwined. This was also used to put over the ark the box so that no one could see it because if you looked at it you would die.
So when they transported it the imag imagine how heavy this thing would have been. Imagine how incredibly bulky this thing would have been. And when you moved the tabernacle of the congregation from we know that there were eight particular times that they had to pack this up and move it because this fire and the smoke began to move. Every time you moved this thing, you had to move it with 100% understanding. When we get where we're going, what are we going to have to do? Reassemble it.
Now, I know some of us, anybody here like camping? You ever camp in a tent? Yeah. You get the tent out of the bag and you just start throwing it around. Get these fiberglass poles and you sleeping bag gets all throwed out there and you get all the cockroaches out of it because it's been in storage for six months. You're not going to do that with this thing. Matter of fact, if you're not allowed to touch it, you better not even look upon it to want to touch it.
That's how sacred this thing is. So the more that I begin to look at the mercy seat that is behind this veil, I'm thinking apparently God knew what he was doing because humans have a real good knack for sinning. Come on. These guys are at the base of the mountain. All they got to do is wait. God's brought them a mighty long way. Y'all, we need something to worship. Build something. What did God say when he said, "Moses, he two st tables of stone and bring them up here.
And before you touch this mountain, Moses, you're going to be the only one that walk this path. You going to be the only one. Listen to me. No other man needs to even be close to this mountain." You know what he said? Nobody else on this mountain. I'll kill them where they stand. No flock, no herd, nor animals better even be near this thing because if they even A cow don't know him. He's just chewing grass. But if he got near that mountain, guess what? Like one of them bug zappers.
Gone. That's how serious God was. God was telling Moses, "It is you and me, nothing else." And when Moses comes down this time, he's carrying these tables now that God gave him. written in these tables are exactly what was written in the first ones. But this time they are bathed and intertwined with mercy, with compassion, and with a desire to want to still connect with humanity. As we've journeyied every week, we've discovered some very interesting things about this tabernacle. I've been blown away by the details, the minute details that God would give, the exact dimensions.
Again, I realize that we we live in in a very hurry up society. We live in a very hurry up social event, culture, if you will. There's something here that I think that we need to understand. There is a reason that God is blessing the church in the end time. There's a reason that the church of the end time is not going to be like anything that's ever been seen. When you bring former and latter reign together, there'll be abundance of things transpire that even I can't explain, you can't explain.
There is no way whatsoever that at that particular point in the book of Exodus when God began to speak with Moses, there's no way that Moses could truly comprehend what God was doing. Why? He had only seen buildings built by stone to worship man's idols. And now God is giving to him a plan for the king of all kings for the utmost to have a place to dwell. So this veil friend of mine this veil is so important. God's principles of this veil makes or breaks the entire tabernacle of the congregation.
We're going to discover some things about this veil the next few weeks. We're going to discover its greatness. We're going to discover some of the ways that it was put together, the way that it was assembled. But we got to understand something that God is doing. The reason that he wants this here, listen to me. It's because he has compassion and mercy on you. I I I will declare to you and I'm you might though please do not take offense to me and what I'm going to say but I really feel like in the generation that we're in we really would not truly comprehend the value of this veil.
See God knew what humanity was capable of but humanity had no idea what God was capable of. Only God knew. And if you would have mishandled what's behind this veil, God would have stuffed every one of you out. He would have just stopped your air. You would have died on the spot. Imagine the position of the high priest on that 10th day of the seventh month when he would stand there. The day of atonement, we're going to be at one with God. We're going to realign ourselves with God.
And on that particular day, Yonap Yongor on that particular day, that high priest would do all that he had done. The entire camp was watching the reaction of God to the action of the man. I will declare to you the beauty of this veil is is it was 100% God's control. Historians have declared and more so as the studies have gone and you get back into the written law, you get back into the vocal law, you understand that this veil had no door. The outside veil had a door, had an opening.
This veil has no opening. So, how did the high priest get in with no opening? You ever ponder that? Again, for you and I, we're used to camp. Okay, I'm in. That's not this thing. We're going to discover in the next few weeks how that literally historians have declared that the high priest, if he did all the things required from the altar to the labor to the things in the holy place, he would now stand on that day of atonement inside the holy place beside the altar of incense.
And he would wait with his blood and with his incense to go through and he would wait for God to pull him through the curtain. Historians declare that they were transported. How long did he stand there? Three minutes, 30 minutes, three hours. We don't know that. We know this. If God honored him and brought him into that place, he would bring in and he would put blood. This is for the atonement of the whole camp. Incense. Once his position was done, once his work was done, listen.
When God received what he had done, he waited and God would allow him back. Now, I've oft wondered, and again, my time's almost up. I've often wondered why Moses would have to put a covering over his face after being in the presence of God. People would look at him and they'd panic. They they sheer fear would overwhelm them because Moses glowed because he had been in that presence of God. I wonder sometimes what this guy would deal with the day of atonement. was no surprise to him.
He had done everything the law required and now he stands here to minister. I'm convinced the man was not afraid. The man was fearfully reverent because inside that ark were two tables that said, "I've got compassion for you. I've got providence for you. Got mercy for you. I can take care of this if you'll simply do as I ask you to do. Would you stand with me tonight? We've got to understand about this veil. The power of separation not only protects us as humans, but it protects God as the ultimate sacrifice, the ultimate supreme majesty.
Because you can't take sin into the presence of God, not permitted. You can't lie to God. You can't try to deceive him. God knows as soon as you're pulled into that presence. God has already examined you. God has already seen your actions and attitude and your activities. And God has already decided, I will allow you to come into my presence. again couple of months from now there will be a lot more information about that mercy seat and about the items inside that but now that we've started this study I want you to understand something God is exactly who God wants to be needs to be has to be for us even today for those of us who simply want to embrace the New Testament grace and all of those things and we want to say that God overlooks because the supreme sacrifice was Jesus and that he came to fulfill the law.
Absolutely he did. But in fulfilling it, he did it with mercy, with compassion and with love. We can't think for one minute that we can stand in a place and demand for God to do anything. That we could demand that Jesus heal us and that his blood come on. You said it, so I demand you do it. Jesus doesn't show mercy that way. Jesus shows mercy at his will. at his bidding at how he wants it done. Would you pray with me? Lord, the veil is such an important part of the tabernacle of the congregation.
What this veil separates us from, separates at that time the children of Israel from the Holy of Holies, what it separated, Lord, was just unknown to them. They had never seen it. Only the high priest did. The fact that you would allow on that day of atonement, the high priest, the man of God, to walk into your presence in the holy place and then draw him into the holy of holies so that he could make that sacrifice to you, Lord. It's a testament to us today, God, that your plan works and that it's right.
Though details, they matter. They count. Lord, the veil protects us from ourselves as sinners. It protects us from who we are. And even though Lord Jesus, we understand that when you died on a cross, that veil was torn. That was just indication of mercy opening to us. I pray God that you would lead us in this study and let us understand deeper. Let us comprehend deeper. Let us have, Lord, a compassion and a passion, Lord, for the things of God as we grow and mature in the ways of God.
To this point, Lord, we have seen your hand in all aspects of the tabernacle and every piece of it. Lord, it continues here in the veil. Help us, Jesus. Show us the way. Lead us in the plain path, God. We'll love you for it. Let us grow in wisdom and stature. Let us understand the things of God. Come on, church. As the other classes begin to join us, why don't you just lift your hands to the Lord and thank him that he knows what we need all the time and that his compassion, that his provision, that his love for us doesn't fail.
That he knows how to forgive and he knows how to fulfill promises. That he's faithful in all things. Come on, somebody thank him for it on a Wednesday night. God, you're gracious. You're true. You're you're forever, Lord, established. You are our God, and we love you. Help us tonight, Lord. Let us never ever take it for granted. But Lord, let us reverence your plan and your passion for us, Jesus. We love you and we thank you for all you've done and all that you choose to do in us.
will love you for it and thank you in the name of Jesus. To God be the glory. To God be the glory for the things that he has done. I love you for it in Jesus name. Come on, thank the Lord. As people begin to come and just thank him. I thank you Jesus and I love you Lord. We thank you. Thank you.
