Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
David in the cave of Adullam
- From Gene Edwards' A Tale of Three Kings: David's fugitive years were God's school of submission and brokenness, and most never graduate because they cannot handle the King Saul God exposes in them.
- 1 Samuel 22 read: David escapes to the cave of Adullam, and everyone in distress, in debt, and discontented gathers to him — about four hundred men.
- Subject announced: The Fellowship of the Cave.
Scriptures: 1 Samuel 22
Worshipper first, warrior second
- David was a success outwardly and a failure inwardly before the cave; God made him a worshipper before He made him a warrior.
- The tabernacle pattern: the outer court is ministry, the holy place is worship, the holy of holies is communion with God — and the church's deficit is worshippers, not workers.
In the cave: Psalm 142 and Psalm 57
- A cave season is God's core curriculum: death to self, where He breaks a man down in order to build him up.
- Psalm 142 pictures David on his face, pouring out his complaint before God.
- Psalm 57 pictures him on his knees: 'my heart is fixed' speaks of the will, not the feelings.
Scriptures: Psalm 142; Psalm 57
Job: a made-up mind in the dark
- Job kept a made-up mind without ever learning why he suffered: 'though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.'
- 'He knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.'
Scriptures: Job
Psalm 34: from fear to praise
- Psalm 34 pictures David on his feet: 'I will bless the Lord at all times' — praise is a decision, not a feeling.
- The Lord delivered him from all his fears, and the angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him.
Scriptures: Psalm 34
Out of the cave: Gad's word and the altar call
- The prophet Gad's word (1 Samuel 22:5): abide not in the hold; get into the land of Judah — and the four hundred came out of the cave with David.
- Altar call: pray for one another, then turn prayer into praise and warfare; he hands the service to the next speaker for a prayer of authority over depression.
Scriptures: 1 Samuel 22:5
Scripture index: 1 Samuel 22; Psalm 142; Psalm 57; Job; Psalm 34; 1 Samuel 22:5.
What a great honor it is to stand here among all of you and this is my first time to be on this Campground what a beautiful spot obviously what a spot of Legacy Heritage and history and Destiny and I'm so grateful to be with all of you there are so many powerful and profound Ministers of the Gospel In This Very Room right now and I know you joined me in being so appreciative of the voices that are not only in Ohio leading your great churches but the voices that go out from this district and bless the apostolic movement around the world and if you are grateful for all those men and women of God would you thank the Lord for them we thank you Jesus we thank you Jesus but at the end of the day when we get to heaven the kingdom of God is not measured measured in missionaries pastors leaders conference preachers the kingdom of God is measured in Saints and you have the Unspeakable opportunity to be a child of the Living God I'm honored to be in your presence tonight you are the heroes of Heaven you pardon me I'm not stalling would you lift up your hands would you lift up your voice like a mighty choir like the sound of many Waters and would you f this Sanctuary the worship team has led us into his presence and we're so very grateful but would you take an opportunity no you may be seated in the presence of the Lord tonight I have given away more copies of a little book called A Tale of Three Kings than probably just about any other book I've ever read it's written by a guy named Jean Edwards if you've never read it trust me you just need to go get it and read it it's a masterpiece and in my opinion Edwards he does a better job than any other author I've ever read portraying God's purpose for one of the most difficult periods of David's life Edward's writing is powerful and poetic and probably a little prophetic and I just want to borrow a few phrases at the beginning tonight because at this point in David's life we find him in the middle of what you might call his fugitive years and here's what Edwards writes God has a university it's a small school few enroll even fewer graduate very very few indeed in God's sacred School of submission and Brokenness why are there so few students it's because all students in this school must suffer much pain David was once a student in this school and Saul was God's chosen curriculum to crush David and so as Saul grew in Madness and Malice David grew in submission and Brokenness perhaps you like most people have your eyes on the wrong King Saul and as you look for your King Saul as long as you do that whoever that might be you will blame him and him alone for your present situation young leaders young Christians do this all the time when they get frustrated with God's process because it's always easier to blame someone else isn't it but be very careful because God actually has his eyes fastened on a different King Saul not the one who is throwing Spears at you not the one who has forced you to flee Into the Wilderness not even the one who's trying to kill you no God is looking at another King Saul he's looking at the one who is just as bad or maybe even worse because you see God is looking at the King Saul in you David the Sheep herder would have grown up to become King Saul II except that God cut away the Saul inside David's heart that operation by the way took years to perform and was a brutal experience that almost killed the patient and what was the scalpel that God used to cut away this inner saw why God used the outer Saul of course and so tonight we find David running running through soggy fields and slimy River beds through dark forests and dried deserts drinking rain water digging Roots eating the tough meat of every creature he can find in the barren Wilderness and we find David hiding crawling through Briars and mud sleeping in trees and Fields and hiding in Dusty Ravines and dirty caves and he doesn't dare stop or Saul will catch him and kill him these were David's Darkest Hours we know them as his pre-king days but he didn't in his pain he assumed that running and hiding would be his fate forever but you see suffering was slowly giving birth to royalty for it was in those fields and in those caves that David The Fugitive became the greatest heart comforter and God worshipper that the world would ever know it wasn't so in the beginning in fact if they' have had new magazines in ancient Israel for months their covers would have featured the handsome face of young David the Giant Slayer their feature articles would have interviewed swooning young women who sang about the exploits of this handsome national hero because you see David was the man that women adored and Men admired and God had already chosen him to follow Saul as the next king of Israel so no out in the beginning David thought that all the adoration and adulation was part of the plan that the fame and the notoriety was somehow God's stamp of approval on everything that David did but then a few Spears aimed by a jealous King Saul that changed everything Saul's jealous rage caused him to become obsessed with destroying David and after surviving several near-death encounters David did the only thing he could do he ran he had to leave behind his best friend Jonathan and he had to leave behind his wife Michal who was almost immediately given to another man the Wilderness was the only place that he could survive but we know that the Wilderness is a pretty inhospitable place so after months of being on the Run David finally does the unthinkable he flees to his enemies for help Imagine David the Giant Slayer ending up in the hometown of Goliath the city of gath asking for their assistance in the capital of the Philistines but that's exactly how low David was at that moment thankfully at the very last second David realized this is a really dumb idea and so when he was presented to King Achish of Gath he changed his behavior he pretended to be a Madman he scratched wildly on the Gate of the city and he let his spittle run down his beard and thankfully they released him rather than putting him to death but make no mistake that is one of the lowest points of David's life he has hit bottom there seems to be no way out and that's how David ends up in a cave and he's surrounded by a bunch of people that are no better off than him 1 Samuel 22 David therefore departed thence and escaped to the cave of Adullam and when his Brethren and all his father's house heard it they went down thither to him and everyone that was these are not a lot of help everyone that was in distress everyone that was in debt everyone that was discontented gathered themselves unto him that is not a likely group for encouragement this is not David's small group this is David's disfunctional family group or something and he becomes a captain over them it's kind of like your pastor on Sunday morning with you and there were with him about 400 men they were having Revival of the distressed and in debt and discontented that's way too fun let's get off of that there is a modern definition for a phrase that we use today it's called man cave a man cave according to Modern vernacular is a garage or spare room somewhere in the house where a man can Retreat when he wants to be alone or where male family members and their friends are supposed to be able to relax and do as they please without fear of upsetting any female members of the household with their activities or their interior design choices that's modern usage but the cave that will make David a man after God's Own heart is not nearly so comfortable it's a place of crippling fear and crushing loss and Shattered Dreams it's a place of inexplicable pain and paralyzing discouragement sometimes mindboggling questions and a few Soul numbing doubts it's a place of dirt and darkness and cold and confusion and hurt and hiding it's a place of fear and failure and loss and loneliness it is a place that could easily devour a man's spirit and David is stuck in that dirty dark damp cave for six long months when the coast is clear David can poke his head outside the entrance of that cave and if he looks Eastward toward Bethlehem about 13 Mi away he can see the beautiful little town where he spent his Boyhood years he can just barely see on the horizon the fields where he tended sheep and learned to play the harp and he can see the hills and The Valleys where he honed his skill with a slingshot and he killed a lion and a bear to protect the flock and most of all if he looks out when the coast is clear from that dirty dark depressing cave he can see the solitary places where he sang his songs and prayed his prayers and played his harp until God did a work in his life but what David didn't realize in those younger years was that the work of God is not something done overnight the work of God is not something done in just one church service the work of God is not something done in just one momentary moment of conviction or dedication but if you want to be a man after God's Own Heart God is going to take you at your word and he's going to spend a lifetime working on you oh the arguments God and I had about preaching this message here tonight he always wins it is disturbing to me he doesn't say a word and he always wins David can look northward from that dirty cave and he can just catch a glimpse of the valley of ela in the distance it's only two miles away it's the sight of the greatest day in David's life that Valley is the subject of songs that are known Heart to Heart by every citizen of Israel that Valley is the spot where the enemy threatened and the slingshot Whirled and the stone flew and the giant fell and the Philistines ran it was the greatest day of David's life it's the place where the victory was won and David the legend was born on that day that was the day he knew for sure that he was anointed by God to lead his nation and impact his world the problem is that those Majestic moments are now just Misty memories for David he has been declared a Public Enemy by King Saul he has been declared a cowardly Fool by King Achish of Gath so right now he's a fugitive from two Nations he's been forsaken by The Sovereign he served and by the soldiers he fought beside and now this crazy Monarch has placed a bounty on his head and has marshaled all the resources of Israel to chase David down and exact his revenge and it's for something that David didn't even do he never raised his hand at Saul David has now joined a select fraternity that all of God's chosen vessels have graduated from it is called The Fellowship of the cave and it's what I would like to speak to you about you may think you know David because of a giant and a slingshot you really need to get to know David because of a cave and a harp it was not his slingshot that made David a man after God's Own Heart it was his harp that made him a man after God's Own Heart this David we read about him Bishop quoted some of his words as he opened this camp meeting tonight this David is certainly not described in glowing terms because he was so perfect he is far from perfect at the point of his greatest failure he is simultaneously an adulterer and a murderer so David was far from perfect but you hear me tonight David was quick to repent and our gracious God was quick to forgive because despite every deficiency in David's life his greatest desire was always to live in God's presence so this David was a worshipper first and a warrior second I believe from the top of my head to the soul of my feet in spiritual warfare but there is no such thing as spiritual Warriors who are not spiritual worshippers there is no such thing if you're not a worshipper you can jump up and down with a music team it accomplishes nothing if you're not a worshipper you can get with the greatest preachers it accomplishes nothing but the moment little deficient you or me lifts up our hands and begins to give our Pure praise to the great God of the heavens Heaven you got their attention worship is not a style worship is not a Pentecostal style worship is not an Apostolic style worship is a lifestyle you either are a worshipper or you're not a worshipper at all I do it too so I'm not throwing stones here lift your voice and Shout I love it I do it I call for it because there's something about shouting unto the Lord for all of you that think deadness is a gift of the spirit it is not there's something so powerful about enthusiasm and excitement and emotion why because you are just like the Tabernacle the outer court is your physical man the holy place that's your mental faculty your emotions your will that's your personality and in the holy of holies is your spirit the Eternal part of you filled with the power of God that middle part there was no way to get into the holy of holies except you went from the outer Court you had to go through the holy place to get to the holy of holies there was no back door in the very same way if you're going to connect with God in the spirit you're only going to get from this physical Universe into the Manifest presence of God by using your will your heart your emotions your personality your enthusiasm your voice so I believe it lift up your voice and Shout I believe that when your pastor says give God a praise you need to be the first one on your feet with your voice lifted God's been too good to you Ohio help me but it's empty unless you're a worshipper first and a warrior second David wrote so many words Bishop quoted him tonight as he opened up from the rising of the sun until the going down of the same the name of the Lord is to be praised some trust in chariots and some in horses but we will remember the name of the Lord Our God they are brought down and Fallen but we are risen and stand upright but it was wasn't always up in Adam sometimes it was in the Stillness of his own Spirit As the deer panth for the water Brooks so panth my soul after thee Oh God better is one day in your house than a thousand elsewhere bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name oh my goodness so David knew what it was to be a worshipper and a warrior he knew what it was to sit beside Still Waters and he knew what it was to run out into a battle field and knocked down a giant that everyone else was terrified of because on that day David saw what apparently nobody else could see everybody else saw a little ragtag Israelite Army led by a cowardly King named Saul and on the other side of the field they saw a great big massive giant David didn't see that David saw a little teeny tiny Giant and a massive awesome Eternal almighty God it's amazing how changing your perspective so David he did it all he knew it all he worshiped and he wed and but now he's in a cave it's amazing how quickly life can conspire against us brothers and sisters and push us into a cave it's frustrating to realize like the old Prophet Elijah just how fast you can fall from a high mountain of victory to a deep valley of discouragement it's a bit embarrassing sometimes to look back on those low moments in life and remember some of the depressing thoughts and the desperate feelings and the dumb decisions maybe you don't have to look back because you're stuck in a cave right now maybe you've made some dumb decisions recently maybe you're battling some depressing thoughts right now it's not pretty and it's not pleasant and it's definitely not something you're proud of but if I could encourage you to just be honest with yourself right now in this great assembly of worshippers Saints and pastors and leaders right now your situation is difficult and your life is dark and your mind is a bit confused and if we could be brutally honest your spirit is cold you know how to go through the motions you know how to participate but the question begs to be answered what are you supposed to do when you're stuck in a cave and you've got no way out first of all I'd like you to please remember that cave time seems to Core Curriculum in God's School of spiritual maturity you can call it whatever you want the pit the prison the desert the valley the Wilderness The Den of Lions the fiery furnace or the cave but whatever you call it the cave is pretty much basic training for all believers we walk by faith not by sight and not by feelings somewhere your pastor is not going to be able to do this on your behalf you're going to have to get it for yourself somewhere you got to learn my feelings are not reliable my emotions are not Dependable I am going to serve God regardless of how I feel or how anyone else feels I'm going to show up with my hands up and my voice lifted no matter what has unfolded in my life though War should rise against me in this will I be confident goodness so why in the world would God if he loves your worship so much and why would he let you visit the Cave the Cave is a place of death where you die to yourself the cave is the place where your motives are exposed and your character is discovered and your maturity is revealed the cave will show you mislaid dedication the cave will show you your dependencies and your misguided desires the cave teaches you something very important how much work God still has to do in you to get you ready for what he wants to do next in you so the cave breaks you down in order to build you up the cave frustrates you in order to make you fruitful the cave lets you know that when God is all you have God is all you need you learned that in the cave yes the cave almost succeeds in killing you but in the end it gives birth to a man or a woman after God's Own Heart God does some of his best work in caves however if you're in a cave in your life of some kind and you're complaining to everybody else about it and never talking to God about it you are missing one great opportunity to grow and so I am going somewhere tonight did you know that David among all those great songs that he wrote he wrote three of his most moving Psalms in this dirty dark cave of adullam during that long six months you can look it up Psalm 142 and Psalm 57 and Psalm 34 are specifically we don't know what else he wrote in that cave but we know for sure he wrote those three because the preamble to each of those psalms tells us he was in the cave and I think these three Psalms could maybe teach us what David did to get himself out of the cave I think they show us David first on his face and then on his knees and finally on his feet Psalm 142 a prayer of David when he was in the cave I Cried unto the Lord with my voice with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication I poured out my complaint before him I showed before him my trouble it's okay to pour out your complaint before the Lord it's okay to say to God once in a while Jesus this isn't fair he knows how you're thinking anyway if you think you're pulling this little one over on God you're not he knows what you're thinking he knows your private thoughts he knows every conversation you have so if you think that you're showing God how spiritual You Are by worshiping him in here and then talking on your cell phone to your best friend for three hours after God's not fooled by that instead of picking up that and talking to them why don't you just kind of get in God's presence and pour out your complaint to the only one who can do anything about it I didn't come here to just kind of play with you tonight I really feel like there's somebody in here that you are in this season and you have felt like you're forsaken you felt like you're all alone you felt like no one understands you felt like you're backsliding you felt like your prayers hit the ceiling and then slap you back in the face you've been walking through a cave season let me tell you the cave is not permanent it's not forever and God has you there for a purpose it is in the Dark Night of the Soul when you learn that God is light and in him is no Darkness at all if you get him on board you're going to survive David says in verse three when my spirit was overwhelmed within me this is all I had you knew my path everybody else was against me they laid snares on me I looked on my right hand there was no man that would know me no man cared for my soul this is one of the lowest points of David's life but he knows what to do he lays on his face before God and he says to God I am completely overwhelmed I am brought very low I've got persecutors who are stronger than I so God I'm just laying it all out before you there's value in getting into an oldfashioned prayer room and pouring out your complaint before the Lord in the great Azusa Street Revival that ran from 1906 to 1909 day and night services there was a prophetic word spoken by a man named swaller and one of the Clauses in that prophetic word was that in the last days of the great Apostolic movement the great Pentecostal movement there will be a people who prays a god they no longer pray to brothers and sisters in my opinion we do praise better than any generation before us in my opinion I'm not asking you to agree with my opinion but when I see these young people up here and they're singing directly to God so many of the songs I grew up on we were singing about God and there's nothing wrong with that you keep on singing those songs he brought me out and he set me free and he did this and I'm so glad he did this and but today when I watch some of these kids sing and they're talking directly to God and tears are flowing down their face I think we do praise just about as good as it's ever been done however we can't become a people that know how to praise God and don't know how to pray to God we can't have full worship services and empty prayer rooms there's still value in you and Jesus getting together all alone without this awesome praise team and without this anointed music and just you and Jesus having a heart-to- heart I'm not trying to be offensive or confrontational or argumentative trying to be Canadian they're nice aren't they David lays before God and he says in verse 7 bring my soul up of prison that I may praise thy name God you got to get me out of here but notice what David is doing to God he says this in other places in the Psalms he'll say the dead praise not the Lord and if I go down to the dust I won't be able to praise you then he's tell telling God if you'll bring me out of this you're going to get a great praise so you're going to get worship from me God but right now I just need to tell you the real sit situation on the ground in my life I believe Psalm 142 pictures David on his face pouring out his complaint but David wrote another Psalm in that cave Psalm 57 and there's a slight change to the untrained Observer who's never spent any time in the cave they might not notice but I notice and you will notice Psalm 57 be merciful unto me oh God God be merciful unto me here it goes for my soul trusteth in thee I still haven't changed in my feelings or in my emotions my circumstance is not one iota different but something has transpired in my spirit my soul trusteth in thee yay in the shadow of thy Wings will I make my refuge why until these calamities be overpassed there is coming a day when the trial is going to be over God so I just want to tell you I'm not budging I'm not moving I'm not leaving I'm not turning away I'm not going backward I am not getting bitter God I'm going to stay right here until the Calamity be overpassed somewhere you got to get a glimpse that there's more coming weeping may endure for the night but joy cometh in the morning H oh I wish you'd take a timeout and just praise him on credit Just Praise Him in faith Just Praise Him in Advance Just Praise Him in anticipation you're dark night is not forever that sickness is not your obituary God is in control of your life that was a good Pentecostal preacher response that's not what I was referring to I'm talking about somebody that knows what it is to be in a pit and you're in a cave and you're in the wilderness and you've been in the valley and you're in a dark night of the soul but that hasn't stopped you from showing up this week that hasn't stopped you from getting your hands in the air God my emotions haven't changed I still got questions that Boggle my mind but I just want you to know I'm staying here until the Calamity be overpassed and then he says in verse seven my see here's the change my heart is fixed oh God my heart is fixed I will sing and give praise there's a decision in there see before he's pouring out his complaint there's nothing wrong with that you have an you're entitled to do that God welcomes that but there come comes a time when you have to make a decision after you poured out your complaint let's be honest nothing has yet changed the doctor's diagnosis still stands the child is still straying away from God as far as you can discern with your emotions and your five senses nothing has changed but if you'll get in that place of prayer there comes a point where you get up off your face and you crawl to your knees and you say God I'm still so burdened but my heart is fixed we don't talk like that anymore maybe we should revive that oh God my heart is fixed I know what you're thinking cuz we're North Americans and in North America our heart according to every Hallmark card you've ever seen and every lousy country song you ever heard in your previous days yeah I got it I can do disclaimers too according to Hallmark and country songs and your heart is your emotions so God I don't know if my heart's fixed or not because I'm still kind of wavering a little bit can I just tell you that that's a modern Western idea that your heart is your feelings can I just tell you that in the Bible the heart does not represent your feelings it's lower your bowels represent your feelings in scripture check it out it's there that's why the Bible says things that are crazy to us like you know greet your brother with bowels of affection it's like no if we actually were thinking biblically like the ancient Eastern world we would mess up all kinds of songs don't let your mind go too far we still do need need to finish service I left my bowels in San Francisco not unless you had surgery you didn't in scripture the heart is not your emotions which waver and Quaver and they're fickle and fragile and they're subject to every kind of whim and every kind of stimuli and every kind of input from everybody else your emotions are not the foundation of your life do you know what your heart is in scriptural parlament it's not your feelings it's not your emotions it's your will and the human will is still one of the most powerful forces on this planet if you make up in your mind oh God my heart is fixed you can weather any storm you can come through any crisis you can get past any difficulty you can climb your way out of depression oh God my heart my will is fixed I wish somebody get both hands in the air and lift up your voice like a trumpet and say God I've been through some deep Waters and some dark valleys but my heart is fixed I'm going forward Bishop I'm not going backward I'm not looking backward I'm going forward my heart is fixed oh my be seated David somehow in that cave gets a hold of the same spirit that a man named job got a hold of the oldest book in your Bible not the first book the oldest book in your Bible is the Book of Job the oldest book in God's word is about the problem of human suffering and pain that we do not understand job visited the cave too and job went through that trial for so long he did not understand anything that God was doing but somewhere in the midst of his trial job got his heart fixed his emotions weren't there yet his situation definitely wasn't there yet his friends weren't there yet and even his wife wasn't there yet but somewhere in the middle of that job got a little bit of what we'd call a madeup mind and he started saying it's like David he gets up on his knees he's job's feeble he's scratching himself for relief with a broken piece of pottery trying to get relief from the curse of disease that has come on his body he has lost everything he's the lowest of the low but he starts getting his heart fixed on God one more time and he starts to speak like this though he slay me yet will I trust in him he starts to say things like this I go forward but you know doesn't seem to be there and I Look Backwards I can't find him and on the right hand they say he's working but I don't see him over there on the left hand I can't find him anywhere I don't know what God is doing I don't know what God is up to I don't understand his dealings I don't understand that he gave the devil permission to hassle me like this I don't know what's going on in my life I don't know know anything I am a basket case of emotions I can't figure out God I don't know where he is but he knoweth the way that I take I don't know where I am but he knows where I am I don't know what's going on but he knows exactly what's going on I don't know why he's allowed it but I trust him he knows exactly why he has allowed it and when he has tried me I shall come forth as gold somebody needs to get a hold of what that old patriarch job had a hold of I can't tell you when God is going to deliver me it could be this next five minutes it could be next week it might not be for a month I can't tell you 100% when God God is going to deliver me but I can show you something I can't tell you when I'm coming out of this trial I can't tell you when I'm coming out of this Valley I can't tell you when I'm going to be delivered from this sickness I can't tell you when but I can show you how I'm coming out I'm coming forth as gold I'm coming forth with my hands still lifted and my voice still lift I'm coming out not bitter not backsliding I shall come forth as go if you could get a hold of that I don't care what life dumps on me no matter how long it takes I'm in it for the long haul my heart is fixed I shall come forth as go watch me devil you hurt me but you're not going to stop me you bruise me but you're not going to stop me you confuse me but you're not going to stop me whenever this is over I don't know when but whenever it's over I shall come forth as gold watch me devil you may be one of those Pentecostals doesn't like this I don't care would you grab somebody by the hand on either side would you lift every hand that we can and as a choir of worshippers would you lift up your voice and let a crescendo of confidence in God rise in this place a crescendo of confidence I don't understand it all but I know you I can't answer it all but I know you come on sweet sister this is not the end come on senior Saint the devil doesn't write the last word in Your Story come on Pastor man of God I know it's been tough but God is just getting started I shall come forth as gold I shall come forth as go oh somebody's heart is getting fixed I don't need mean repaired it's not that kind of fixed I mean my heart is stayed and focused and aimed on Jesus my heart is fixed yes yes yes yes yes yes there's enough prayer power and anointing in this room to pull you out of any situation but if not I'm still not going to Bow but if not I'm still not turning around but if not I'm still going forward I pause only because God's working in this room pray in the Holy Ghost right now if you feel led to pray for someone that's not interrupting a sermon for you're not interrupting anything you can keep doing what you're doing there is one more Psalm that we know for sure David wrote in that cave and to me it pictures David who's laid on his face before God poured out his complaint finally crawled to his knees and said God I've made a decision no matter how how painful it is no matter how bad it gets my heart is fixed and now I can just imagine David climbing to his feet you can hardly believe that he would write this song in that dirty dark damp dingy cave but he does Psalm 34 I Will Bless The Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth devil if you thought this is going to stop me from worshiping my God you got another thought coming my soul shall make her boast in the Lord The Humble shall hear thereof and be glad oh magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together why because I sought the Lord and he heard me and he delivered me me here it is he delivered me from all my problems no he delivered me from this dirty cave not yet he delivered me from every no he delivered me from all my fears if you could get loose of the fear that is trying to hurt you and hinder you you'd be just fine you don't need to fear the doctor's diagnosis what's he going to do threaten you with Heaven you don't need to fear the attack of the enemy on your church the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against the church he delivered me that's what he wants to do on the first night of Camp he delivered me from all of my fear if you believe any little piece
