Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Opening Text: 'Even There' — Psalm 139
- He greets the church, honors its 90-year legacy and its pastors, and admits his own family has been through a hard year, including caring for his father as he was dying.
- He reads Psalm 139:7-10: there is nowhere to flee from God's presence — if I ascend into heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in hell, you are there; even in the uttermost parts of the sea, 'even there' God's hand leads and holds.
- He illustrates it with Verizon's old 'Can you hear me now?' campaign: the company was advertising that its signal reached everywhere, and he wants the church to be just as sure that God's presence reaches everywhere.
Scriptures: Psalms 139:7
The Book of Esther at a Glance
- He walks quickly through the whole book: a queen removed for disobedience, Esther chosen as the new queen, a plot to destroy all the Jews, Esther risking her life to approach the king uninvited, the plotter hanged on the gallows he built for another, and a new decree that lets the Jews defend themselves.
- The story is set in the Persian Empire; Esther was not her original name — Hadassa was her Hebrew name and Esther her Persian name.
- He notes that Esther is one of only two books named after women, and the only book of the Bible that does not reference God once — the puzzle the rest of his message answers.
Point One: Even There in the Middle of Exile
- Reading Esther 2:7, he stresses that Esther begins her story as an orphaned, exiled Jewish girl in a foreign land, with neither father nor mother, raised by her godly cousin.
- Even there, God was already setting the stage: though she was a minority living in captivity rather than freedom, she was positioned for purpose, and God did not need a church, temple, or synagogue to work — He was working in the middle of exile, in the darkness.
- Quoting Swindoll — though God may be silent, He is never asleep — he applies it to broken homes and to young people who feel unworthy or inadequate: even there, God sees you, knows exactly where you are, and is working even when you don't feel Him.
- He testifies that while taking care of his father through terminal brain cancer he prayed this psalm, asking God where He was, and was reminded that even there, in that situation, God was working.
Scriptures: Esther 2:7; Psalms 139
Point Two: Even There in the Palace of Pressure
- Reading Esther 4:11, he notes that as queen Esther stepped into power with great pressure: anyone who approached the king uncalled faced one law — death — yet her people's survival depended on her speaking up.
- Young people today carry heavy pressure of their own — anxiety and the pressure of school to perform — and Esther's response was to fast, pray, and risk her life.
- Prayer still works and fasting still works, he insists, and the habits should start young: God tells us to come to the throne boldly and pray big prayers, because God can move.
- God is not only the author of your story but also the finisher; if Esther had given up, a whole nation would have been lost, and one young person's choices can likewise change their school and their world.
- Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, and without faith it is impossible to please God; walking by faith is not a setback or something less — it is supernatural, where God directs our lives instead of us directing our own.
Scriptures: Esther 4:11; Hebrews 11:6; Hebrews 11:1
Point Three: Even There in the Silence of Your Story
- The book of Esther feels godless on the surface — no dreams, no angels, no parted seas, no mention of God — but that is the very message of the book: His name may be absent, yet His hand is evident, directing minute events behind the scenes.
- Reading Esther 6:1, he lingers on the king's sleepless night: the book of the records of the chronicles is read, and the entry found is the unrewarded deed that exposed the plot against the king — what are the chances of that, if not God operating in the situation?
- When God prompts you to wake in the middle of the night and pray, pray; those can be the deepest moments God speaks.
- He reads Deuteronomy 6:4 — hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord — and presses the next verse: love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength, and everything else begins to make sense.
- God was in the timing of Esther's request, in the reversal of the plot, and in the preservation of His covenant people: in the darkest days and the uncertainty, the family's prayer is simply, 'I believe God.'
Scriptures: Esther 6:1; Deuteronomy 6:4
The Same God, Still Writing: Forsakenness, a Father's Testimony, and the Altar Call
- He is the author and the finisher of our faith, and Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever: the same God David served, the same God who parted the Red Sea and saved the Israelites, is operating in this room.
- Unmentioned doesn't mean uninvolved, silent doesn't mean absent, and hidden doesn't mean inactive; he admits he has prayed the psalmists' cries himself — 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?', 'Do not forsake me, O Lord,' and 'How long, O Lord, will you forget me?' — many times, including when he buried his father this February at 67.
- He returns to Psalm 139 — even there, in a godless school where you think you're the only Christian, in a broken home, in sickness — God can work.
- He tells his father's last story: after 13 months of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries, a doctor at the University of Michigan said there was nothing else they could do, and his father's response was that he was honored to have served and ministered to the people of their church during that season — and people are still coming to church because of his testimony in his sickness.
- His charge: don't curse the situation, the problem, the storm, or the illness, because God is operating in it and setting up the next story; he opens the altars for young people, the weary, mothers, fathers, and the sick who need a miracle, as the church sings that even when we don't see it and don't feel it, God never stops working.

What a wonderful church that you guys go to. What a wonderful church that you guys go to. What a beautiful building. What a beautiful legacy that this church has. I was talking to brother Dong before service. 90 years. Wow. 90 years. Last year. That's so amazing. So amazing. That's a great legacy. Church. Brother Wilford. It's a great honor to be here. I was thinking preparing for this message today, just going over my notes. I think I was 25 years old. I probably should checked with my wife on time.
So, I'm terrible with time uh when I had hair, Brother Willilifford. And I was 25 and you preached my ordination service in Michigan. So, I appreciate and I love you, Pastor Dong. Sister Dong, it's great to see you guys. Great friends. Um, man, I've I have Can I just be real with you, church? Me and my wife, we just been through it. This year has been wild. But you guys have a great pastor, a pastor that's sensitive. And there was one day that I was taking care of my father when he was dying and he just gave me a word that I needed in that moment.
And I'm so thankful for men of God that are sensitive to the spirit that will speak to you when you need it. And I needed a word, brother Dong. Thank you for that. Wow. I appreciate you guys being here. uh youth. It's gonna be a great time. I do love to party. I do love to hang out. I am getting older. Um what's even scarier, I pro we've been married. Me and my wife been married. Maybe some older than you guys been alive. That's crazy. Don't know when that happened, Jay.
Um but it happened. Um I'm so thankful my beautiful wife is here. I don't always get to travel with my beautiful wife, but she definitely keeps me straight for sure. Um, uh, Brother Pete, all the things you were saying, I you probably should have checked with my wife before you said those things. She could really tell you. Um, man, I'm It matters who you marry. I'm just going to tell you that. Young people, uh, youth, it matters who you marry. And all the married folks in here, shout, "Amen." Amen.
Man, I'm telling you, thank you worship team for doing a great job. Let's give them a round of applause. It's so awesome. Guys, have a great team. I always tell uh our worship team at home, if you keep on playing, I'll keep on preaching longer. So, um thank you, my friend. You you support. I'm telling you, it's easier to preach when a piano is going up there. I'll preach forever. I got this bad habit. I don't know what happened. And it wasn't just because we got voted in as pastors.
I just have this bad habit of preaching long. It's It's a bad habit. I know you guys are worried. Be worried Sunday or Friday. No, I I do have a mission to get through this message quick. But I need you guys to preach with me. Amen. Turn with me to Psalms 139 7-10. Where can I go from your spirit? or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in hell, behold, you are there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me and your right hand shall hold me.
Even there, church, even there. Let's pray real quick. Lord, help me out tonight. Believe there's a word that this church needs and these young people need to hear. God, use me as a mouthpiece. Not my will, not my way, not my ideas, but your kingdom come and your will be done and your ideas and your thoughts. That's all I want for this great congregation. And we all say, "Amen." Amen. Well, it was almost quick. It was almost a quick service. I almost had it on my last page of notes, so we could have dismissed there.
I want to do a poll real quick. This is Youth Week, and I'm excited for youth week. I remember when I was young and I had more hair than just my eyebrows. Um, you guys get that joke later. Um, but who was born after 2000? Yeah, that's that's exactly what I thought. That's crazy. here. Raise your hands real quick. Don't put them down yet. Just elders in the room, just look around. Just let that sink in a little bit. Crazy. That's a crazy. So, in 2000, yes, I was alive.
My wife, yes, my wife and Never mind, I won't go there. My wife is a couple years older than me. It's always a joke that our church likes to hear. um one of our one of our pastors are 12 years difference between him and his wife. So it's just that's why they elected us so the joke can keep on going on. Anyways, a later youth I'll tell you how old she is. Um just not now. Um anyways, in 2000 there was this awesome awesome You see I'm trying to trying to go by and let that sink.
There was this awesome marketing campaign by this awesome company and uh who has a phone here today? Most of us do, right? Most of us do. Who has ever heard of Verizon, right? Verizon used to have the spokes guy, right? We might know him. He looked really nerdy with glasses, right? I need glasses, but I don't want to get glasses. He's being bald with glasses. Just listen. But he always would walk around. You'd see him in random places and he would say, "Can you hear me now?" And he would say, somebody would respond or he would respond to, "Good.
Okay. Okay. We got some people that were alive around them." And then he would go somewhere else in the city or in the woods and said, "Hey, can you hear me now?" Good. What was Verizon trying to communicate? They were trying to communicate. Wherever you go, they had signal. You can hear them. If it was in the middle of the wilderness, you can hear them. If middle of St. Louis City, you can hear them. Good. Can you hear me now? Good. I want to hear I want to know if this church can hear me.
Can you hear me now? Good. Good. I want to focus on one book of the Bible tonight. Just one. If I was at home, usually the media team has a list of 45 verses. I just love the word of God. Brother Rever, I love the word of God. Who loves the word of God? I love the word of God. Let's start in the book of Esther. Who likes the book of Esther? You know me, my daughter Ariana, she's at home, started school. I miss you. Um, if you're watching, I love you, Ari.
Um, we love reading the book of Esther. It's just a great book. I actually challenge you young people. Tomorrow, I think you could spend an hour and finish it. That's how small the book is. But let me give you an overview if you never read it. So, Esther becomes queen from chapter 1 and two. Queen Vashi is removed for disobedience. Esther is chosen as the new queen after a royal beauty search. And then chapter 3, Hmon's plot is u told. Morayi refuses to bow down to Hmon.
Then Hmon persuades King Huhazias to issue a decree to destroy all the Jews. Esther's courage happens in chapters four and five. Mordeay urges Esther to intervene and tells her for such a time as this. The famous quote here, Esther risk her life by approaching the king without being summoned. Then divine reversal happens in chapters six and seven. The king honors Morayi instead of Hmon. Esther exposes Hmon's plot to kill Morayi and his people during a banquet and Hmon is hung on the gallows he built for Morayi.
And then victory in Porum happens in chapters 8 and 10. A new decree allows the Jews to defend themselves. Then the Jews are victory are victorious over their enemies. That's pretty much the book of Esther real quick in about 20 seconds. Listen, I'm trying to do a quick work here. I promise you. I know we're hungry retired. Here are some interesting facts about the book of Esther. This is one of two books named after ladies. Can I get an amen of all the ladies in this room?
Amen. Ruth and Esther. The story takes place in the Persian Empire. The events occurred during the reign of King Haziweris who ruled Persia from 486 to 465 BC. Esther was not her original name. Did you know that it was Hadassa? Esther was her Persian name. Also, Esther was an orphan. I'm trying to give you this brief overview. I promise you I'm going somewhere. And Esther is the only book of the Bible that does not reference God once. Wow. So interesting, right? Never realized that. Never seen that before.
And you're probably thinking, Pastor Delong's like, man, what are you preaching? What are we preaching about a Bible that a book of the Bible that doesn't reference God? I I promise you, I'm going here. Point one tonight. Even there in the middle of exile, God was showing up. Turn with me to Esther 2:7. Morayi had brought up Hadassa, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had neither mother nor father. Sorry, father nor mother. Esther begins her story as an orphan exiled Jewish girl living in a foreign land.
She was she had two names. Hadassa, her Hebrew name. Esther, her Persian name. This tells us something, young people. She was in a tough situation. She was in a place where she had to survive. She had to learn. She w she wasn't living in an abundance. She was living in captivity. She wasn't in Jerusalem. She was in Persia. She's not in freedom. She's under the Persian Empire. And yet even there, God was already setting the stage. Though she had lost her parents, she gained a godly cousin, Morayi.
Though she was a minority in a foreign land, she was positioned for purpose. God didn't need her to be in a church or a temple or a synagogue for him to work. He was working in the middle of exile. God was working in the darkness. Charles Swindoll would say it this way. Though God may be silent, he is never asleep. church. The book of Esther reminds us that he is always at work behind the scenes orchestrating his perfect plan. I want to remind somebody today, God still sees you.
God knows where you're exactly at. He knows you are here tonight. He knows he you're dealing with that situation, that pain or that hurt or that trial. He knows. He sees and he's working. God doesn't need perfect conditions to accomplish his perfect work. I know that's tough to hear. I know as a father, I wish I could protect my beautiful daughter, Ariana, from everything. I promise her when I get back home, we're going to play pickle ball, but some reason she wants to play pickle ball.
And I I you know, I wish I could protect her from falling and scraping her knee, but that's the only way she's going to learn. Right. Right. I can't keep her for everything. And that's just life. You might be here tonight from a broken home, but let me remind you, even there, God can work. Even in the midst of brokenness and uncertainty, even there, God can show up. Your parents might be divorced, but even there, God can show up in that broken home. You might not feel worthy or inadequate or feel inadequate.
But even there, God sees you and he's operating and he's walking with you even if you don't feel him. Even if you don't see him. I texted brother Pete and I said, "Hey, I would love to do Way Maker, the song for Alter Call." And he said, "Bro, it's already on the set list." And I'm so glad the Lord works like that because somebody need to be reminded. Even in the middle of your storm, God is working. Even in the middle of hurt and loss, when I was taking care of my father with terminal brain cancer, I was praying this verse.
Even there, I was asking God, I don't really feel you right now. I don't really even see you right now. My dad was a faithful man in the church. I grew up in church. Some people would say I had a drug problem. My mom drugged me to Wednesday church, Friday night youth service back when we had revival. It was like Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Dragged me to Sunday school church. Get kicked out of Sunday school. And I'm just kidding. I did actually get kicked out of Sunday school.
But don't be like me. Promise you I was. But I knew this thing. I was born in this thing. These are nice chairs. Growing up, we didn't have these nice chairs. It was like this orange nasty colored chairs that it was like a wool sweater that you would fall asleep on it and your face would just instantly start like itching. I think they did that on purpose, right? And then some of our chairs had arms. I have no idea why I'm telling you this, but you'd have to position the chairs to somehow fall asleep.
And yeah, I grew up in this thing, but I was taking care of my father and he was dying. And I'm thinking, why God? Why? But I'm reminded in Psalm 139, even there in that situation, he's working. Shout amen if you're with me. Point two, even there in the palace of pressure. Esther 4:11. All the king's servants know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the king who has not been called, he has but one law put all to death. When Esther becomes queen, she steps into a place of power.
Yes, but there was great pressure. Young people, she had a great responsibility. She learned about Hmon's plan to annihilate all her people and now the weight of the world is on her shoulders. Can you imagine a young person with all this pressure? I can. It feels like this world today. We carry some major things, young people. Anxiety, pressure of school to perform. But let me tell you, Esther did something so amazing. She's terrified speaking up could mean death. She's caught up between her past as a Jew a Jewish girl and a her present life as a Persian royalty.
Isn't that crazy? Can you imagine with me? Like that split in her that that struggle. She hasn't even told the king who she was. She hasn't even told the king, "Hey, I'm a Jewish girl and you're about to kill all these people." And now Moriah is saying, "Speak up or we die." Wow. For such a time as this moment takes place, young people, there is such a time as this. I know we just started school. I know the pressures to you going to school and and maybe going this way or going left or right, but I ask you to keep on the straight and narrow.
To keep focused on God even when you don't feel him or see him, keep focused on him and watching him. I promise you, he'll never leave you nor forsake you. But we see what Esther does here real quick. You know what she does? She fasts. She prays. And she risks her life. Hey, prayer still works, church. I don't know if anybody has known that prayer still works. I pray some crazy prayers. I'm telling you, if you seen some of my prayers, you would be like, "Dude, you're crazy." But I'm not.
God tells me to be bold. God tells me, "Come to the throne boldly." And I'm going to do that, young people. And I think we need to pray big prayers because God can move. And fasting still works. Fasting still works, young people. I know you might be thinking, "Hey, I'm just 12 or 13." It still works. It starts now. Start a habit of fasting now. Start a habit of prayer now. I'm telling you, it will pay off for you. I want to encourage someone today. Even when you don't feel God in your story, don't stop living it.
Because I know God to be the author and the finisher. Not just the author. Young people, hear me. Hear me. He is also the finisher. Do you know what that means? You might feel like God started writing your story and then he just disappeared. I promise you when my father passed away, I felt like that. Author, where are you? God, where are you? I'm telling you, if you knew my my dad was the baddest man in the world, I'm telling you, he wasn't that big. He was probably like this tall, but I know he could beat anybody up, right?
Anybody have a dad like that, right? He would still like he was 67. He'd be like, "Dude, I still can take you." That was who my dad was. I thought he was my hero. He taught me how to give. He taught me how to pray. He taught me how to live. He also taught me how to die. Honestly, young people, hear me. Church, hear me. Elders, hear me. When we feel like the author disappears, let me remind you, he is the author and the finisher. He doesn't just start the story, he finished the story.
He's also alpha and omega. He is the beginning and the end. HE IS ALL good and HE IS MY GOD AND HE is still alive. How many times can I ask you that we have given up before God finishes our story? Imagine with me if if Esther would have given up a whole nation would be gone. One young lady. And you think you can't turn your world upside upside down, young people? Let me tell you, one lady did. One young girl did. And you can, too.
You can change your school with one choice. You can change your school with one P7 club. You can change your school, your college with one CMI chapter. You can change this world one choice at a time. A nation of people could have been lost. And even there, God is working. The king's heart is soft. And Esther's finds favor again. Her voice is heard. Her people are saved. John Piper said it this way. Esther calls us to courage not in the absent of fear, but in the presence of God's unseen hand guiding history.
I know you might not feel God, but he's still operating. And I know you might not hear him, but he's still working. And you might not feel him, but he's still operating in the darkness. You know what something I love about Psalm 139? It talks about your hand will lead me and your right hand will hold me. His right hand is a hand of strength and might and power. But that left hand is operate in the darkness. And that's that left hand guarding you and guiding you.
Say, "Okay, don't go there. Don't do this. I'm still operating. Shout amen if you're with me. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, "But but without faith, it is impossible to please him." Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is a substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Young people, we're not going to always see this thing. It's not going to always make sense. Actually, I'm reminded, brother Dong. It says, "I walk by faith, not by sight." I've told you I grew up in this thing, and you might hear this later this week, too.
But I hate hearing that verse thinking, "This church thing is less. It's a setback." That's a lie from the pit of hell. This church thing is the best thing you ever done in your life. This church thing that decided you're going to follow God, the one true living God, is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It's not a setback. It's even greater. And I've heard it before. Oh, why do you have to do that? Why can't you go there? Why can't you do that?
Why can't you go? Why can't you go see that movie? Why? Why? And then we all we're just walking by faith. And we think it's less than, brother Willford, but that's a lie. Because I know walking by faith is supernatural. When we think we're blindly walking, that's faith. No. When we walk by faith, it's supernatural. That's when we we let the Holy Ghost start operate operating in our life. When we walk by faith, God starts taking over. And that's what we want. We want God start directing our lives instead of us directing our lives.
So, we're walking and God's directing. Hey, don't do that. Hey, go there. Talk to this person. Teach a Bible study. Start that P7. Do that. Don't go. That's walking by faith even though it might look scary. Point three, even there in the silence of your story, God is working. God is operating. Let's be honest, the book of Esther feels godless on the surface. No dreams, no angels, no parted seas, no mention of God. But the that's the very message of the whole book of Esther. Turn with me to Esther 6 1-2.
That night, the king could not sleep. Anybody else ever had that problem? I have a solution right here for you though. Don't worry. The the word of God is awesome. So, one was commanded to bring the book of the records of Chronicles. I promise you, if you have problem sleeping, I got some Bible readers in here. Turn yourself to the book of Chronicles. Start reading. You'll find yourself snoring pretty soon. Let me move on. And they were read before the king. And it was found written that Morayi had told Big Than and Tarsian, two of the king's unic, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Haziwares.
Then the king said, "What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Morayi for this?" Just think about this. What's the chances of this king not be able to sleep? And what's the chances? I promise you that that was probably a lot of chronicles. And what was the chances of him not falling asleep? That was the point. He couldn't sleep. He didn't fall asleep. And he stumbled across Morayi and the honor and him saving him. What? That there is no chance. God was operating in this situation.
God was directing this situation. And I'm telling you, if God prompts you to wake up in the middle of night and pray, pray. Don't try to go back to sleep. I promise you, those are probably the deepest moments God speaks to me is in the middle of the night when I want to sleep. I love sleep. I I love sleep. Don't steal my sleep away. I I took a nap before this service. I love some sleep. But man, when God wakes me up in the middle of night, I'm like, "No, I'm not I'm not waking up." Anybody?
Okay, I'll be real with you. That's right. And then usually I try to roll over and I'm like, "Okay, Lord, let's go." And then, wow, he reveals so much to me. He speaks with me and he walks and talks with me. I love the things of God, young people. I love the things of God. Deuteronomy 6:4, it says, "Here, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one Lord." And I love that next verse. And you shall love the Lord your God with what? all your and with all your and with all your young people.
I promise you, you will have no problem serving the Lord. If you do those three things, everything pastor says will make sense. If you love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength, it will make sense. Love this word. Sorry. God was in the timing of Esther's request. Matthew Henry states this. Though the name of God is not in it, the finger of God is directing many minute events for the bringing about his people. God was operating in the darkness.
God was operating in the unseen. And may I say tonight, God is operating in the silent of your story. I don't know who or somebody needs to hear this. God is working in your silence. God is working in the uncertainty. God is working when you don't think he is. God is working in that storm. God is working in that situation that you're trying to curse, but God's trying to direct it. God was in the reversal of Hmon's plot. God was in the preservation of his covenant people.
Let me tell you, the promises of God is perfect and good. This book is real. I just need to tell you this book is real. Me and my me and my daughter have a prayer. We me and my wife pray this and we say every time we pray, I believe God. I believe God. Sometimes we just need to remind oursel when the darkest days, I believe God. In the uncertainty, I sometimes you just got to wrap the your arms around this BOOK AND SAY, GOD, I BELIEVE THIS TRUTH.
GOD, I NEED THIS TRUTH. GOD, I WILL SELL IT NOT. I NEED it through his name is absent in this book. His hand is evident. Esther's story is a testament of divine orchestration in the shadows. And that's hard though. Hebrews 12:2 states he is the author and the finisher. I felt like somebody needed to hear this tonight. He's still writing your story. Young people, he's still operating in your story. He's still working in the background. Hebrews 13:8 says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Let me remind somebody, the same God that King David served is the same God that you serve today. The same God that parted the Red Sea is the same God that's here today. The same God that saved the Israelites is the same God operating in this room. He is so powerful. He is so amazing. If the worship team can make their way up. Unmentioned doesn't mean uninvolved. Silent doesn't mean absent. Hidden doesn't mean inactive. Even when I don't see God, he's working. And even if I don't feel him, he's working.
And he never stops. He never stops. Church, God is working behind the curtains of your circumstances. And when that curtain lifts, one day it will. And you'll realize, my God, my God. I'm actually reminded of Psalms 22 and1. It states, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Can I just be real? Has anybody else ever prayed that prayer? My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? I've prayed that prayer a lot of times when I buried my dad this February at 67. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
That verse goes on saying, why are you so far from helping me and for my words of groaning? Psalms 38 and 21. Do not forsake me, oh Lord. Oh my God. Be not far from me. The psalmist was going through some stuff. He was dealing with some stuff. Psalm 13 and1, "How long, oh Lord, will you forget me? Forever. How long will you hide your face from me?" Wow, those are tough words, but I serve a real God and I serve a present God. Then he writes in Psalms 139 7-10, "Where can I go?
Where can I go? Where can I go from your presence? WHERE CAN I flee from your spirit? If I ascend into heaven, you are there. IF I MAKE MY BED IN HELL, BEHOLD, you are there. IF I TAKE THE WINGS OF THE MORNING and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there, even there, young people, in a godless school, you think you're the only Christian there. EVEN THERE, GOD CAN WORK. Even there, young people in a broken home that maybe your parents don't live for God, but even there, Even there in sickness, oh somebody might have cancer in this room, but I will pray and preach that even there God is working and operating.
Even there I remember my last story about my father and I open these altars. We went through 13 months of battling and and chemotherapy and radiation and surgeries. And I remember I took him to the University of Michigan for the one last time to hear the doctor say, "I'm sorry, Darl. There's nothing else we can do." I still had the picture in my phone. when he looked at the doctor in un in disbelief and then only thing I knew what to do is I took him out to eat, found a quiet restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor, got some food and sat down with our food and and then he began to cry.
I said, "This makes sense. This man just heard there's nothing else to do. I can't do anything else. You're you're you're going to die in a few months. Sorry. And I was just letting him cry middle of a restaurant. And then he blew my mind, young people, the next words he told me. It wasn't like, why do I have to deal with this? Why am I going through this? No, he said, Kyle, I am so honored that I got to serve and minister to the people of our church during this season.
And countless of people have visited the church and came to the church in Michigan because of his testimony in his sick state of barely walking. He would go over and pray for somebody. A family that doesn't have a mother and a husband that's trying to raise a ton of kids by himself. MY DAD WOULD HOBBLE over there barely walking just to pray for him. And I realize, brother Willford, even there, God is operating. Even there, God is I wish I still had my father there, but God showed me.
No matter what you go through, no matter what you're dealing with, I am setting up the next story. To this day, people are still coming to church because of his story. Just this other last week, one of his co-workers were at an event that our church was having. Would that happen without that? I wish he was still here. But you know what? God knew. And I just came all the way from Michigan to tell somebody to say to tell you this. Even there in that situation, God's working.
Don't curse that situation. Don't curse that problem. Don't curse that storm. Don't curse that illness because God's operating in that. Don't give up and throw in the white TOWEL AND SAY, "I GIVE UP. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE. You're looking at somebody that should have given up a long time ago. But let me remind somebody, even there, God is working. Let's stand. Where can I go FROM YOUR SPIRIT? WHERE CAN I FLEE? His spirit's here and he's operating. He's here right here. Somebody's been work waiting all week for this moment to be ministered to up TO SOMEBODY TO ENCOUNTER GOD AT THIS ALTAR.
He's here. He's working. Let's bow our heads right now. Lord, the last 34 minutes, I've tried my best to paint this picture that you still operate when nobody's watching, when you don't feel you. When we don't see you, when we don't hear you, you're still there. You're still working in this church. You're still working in young people's life that feels like you don't see me, God. That you feel inadequate and you don't measure up. Let me tell you right now, God didn't call an Esther. He didn't call a Ruth for this season.
He called you for this season, sister. Oh. Oh, I know. I know there's hurting people in this room, but even there. Thank you, Jesus. I open these altars for a young person that might think they're not good enough or they don't measure up, but I'll say even there, God has operated in your life. I open these altars for maybe a middle-aged person that just been going through it that says, "I need help. I need somebody to move in my life. I open this altars for a mother that just I don't know if I can go one more day.
I need God to operate in my life. I I open this altar for a father that says, "I just need some wisdom. I need some help." I open these altars for somebody that's sick, that needs a miracle, and they feel like they just give up and they're going to give up on God. Even there in that situation, God can operate. These altars are open. COME FIND GOD. COME FIND. YOU THOUGHT HE WAS SILENT, BUT he can speak to you right now. YOU YOU THOUGHT GOD WASN'T THERE IN YOUR YOUR STORY, but he's rewriting stories.
That's that's it. Push in. God is going to move in in the lives of young people and people in this room. If you just seek after him with all your heart and with all YOUR MIND AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, HE CAN operate in the darkness. He can operate in that uncertainty. He can operate in that storm. That's it. Young people, begin to pray. church begin to pray. Even there in the midst of uncertainty, he can operate. Even in a storm and trials and circumstances, he is there and he is speaking and HE'S WALKING AND HE'S talking with people right now.
That's okay. If you feel like you need to cry, that's God working in your life. If you feel like you just need to raise your hand for some reason, that's okay. God is operating in your life right now. That's it. I know there's there might be a miracle that needs to happen in this room. That's okay. He's here. That's it. If you're if there's a family member that you just been struggling, you've been going through it, just grab that person's hand right next to you and begin to pray.
That's it. God wants to move in this room. God wants to speak in this room right now, God. Oh, that's it, church. Let's begin to pray. Yes, Lord. Even when I don't see it, you're working. Even when I don't feel it, you're working. You never stop. You never stop working. You never stop. You never stop. Even when I don't see it, you're working. Even when I don't feel it, you're working. That's it, church. I can feel God operating. I can feel God working in this place.
He never stops working. That's it. When you don't know what to pray, pray for somebody next to you. Feel God prompting you. Pray for somebody to speak something over them. That's okay. In these moments, you never stop. You never stop. Even when I don't see it, you're working. Even when I don't feel it, you're working. You never stop. You never stop working. You never stop. You never stop working. Even when I don't see it, you're working. Even when I don't feel it, you're working. You never stop.
You never stop working. You never stop. You never stop working. Even when I don't see it, you're working. Even when I don't feel it, you're working. You never stop. You never stop working. You never stop. You never stop working. Even when I don't see it, you're working. Even when I don't feel it, you're working. You never stop. You never stop working. You never stop. You never stop working.
Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who you are. Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who you are. We call you way, miracle work, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who you are.
You are way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who you are.
That's okay, church. God is still operating. God is still working in the background right now. You might feel a word for somebody. Go walk over and tell them that encouraging word. Sometimes we just got to strengthen oursel in the body of Christ. Sometimes we got to stand and and square our shoulders in the middle of a storm and say you are still real and you ARE THE STILL THE SAME GOD YESTERDAY, TODAY, and forever.
SOMETIMES WE JUST GOT TO ENCOURAGE OURSELVES. GOD, I'M GOING TO SERVE you in the middle of a storm. I'M GOING TO SERVE YOU IN THIS PROBLEM. I STILL FEEL YOU. I still believe you. That's okay. Let's begin to worship him and what he's going to do. Let's give him praise FOR WHAT HE'S ABOUT TO DO. In the situations and the storms and trials, healing can take place. Miracles and signs and wonders still happen. That's it. Hallelujah.
