Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
God Is Fighting for You
- He opened by declaring that God is fighting for the congregation and their families, pushing back the darkness coming against them, and that they and their sons and daughters will not die but live.
- He announced his text in 1 Kings 18:41: Elijah told Ahab to get up and eat and drink, for there is a sound of an abundance of rain.
- Elijah went up to the top of Carmel, cast himself down upon the earth with his face between his knees, and sent his servant to look toward the sea seven times.
- At the seventh time the servant saw a little cloud arising out of the sea, like a man's hand; then the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain.
- He said the Lord had been dealing with him over the last couple of weeks and had given him dreams or visions about this very thing, and that he wanted not merely to preach a sermon but to deliver a message God had given for this church.
- He led the congregation to avail themselves to God's Word and Spirit, asking to be changed by his power and his reign rather than leave the same way they came in.
Scriptures: 1 Kings 18; 1 Kings 18:41
Without Rain, Things Die
- Rain is evaporated water carried into the sky and condensed into moisture-filled clouds, and its most important effect is providing water to drink; water is essential for life itself.
- Without rain, things become dormant, growth stops, and things begin to die; in a drought the grass withers, trees lose their leaves, rivers and lakes dry up, and disease breaks out in the plant and animal world.
- The desert gets less than ten inches of rain a year and is often over a hundred degrees in the day; it is barren and nothing flourishes there because it does not get enough rain.
Rivers of Living Water
- Throughout the Bible, rain and water are paralleled to the Spirit.
- In John 7:37, on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink"; he that believes on him would have rivers of living water flow out of his belly.
- Verse 39 explains that this he spoke of the Spirit.
Scriptures: John 7; John 7:37
Put Down the Umbrella
- Spiritually, when there is no rain in a life, a drought begins: spiritual things become dormant, growth stops, and bitterness, fear, anger, resentment, and unforgiveness begin to grow; spiritual disease flourishes and spiritual things begin to die.
- In a drought we tend to blame God, people, and circumstances; instead, a drought is a good time to examine ourselves — whether we have been reading the Word consistently, praying, and fasting, and whether we have allowed the Spirit to reign in our lives.
- When the reign of the Spirit falls in the house of God, we have two choices: lift our hands and let the rain fall on us, or pop open an umbrella of distraction and not be touched by it, because our flesh wars with our spirit.
- There is an umbrella of bitterness over things that happened ten or fifteen years ago or just recently; an umbrella of resentment toward people because of blessings they receive or ministries they hold that we want; and umbrellas of bad attitudes, unforgiveness, and fear of what people might think.
- He said he had gotten the umbrella that morning at Home Depot and had tried three times to take that part out of the message, but something kept pushing and nudging him to keep it in, for somebody present or watching online whose rain had been falling service after service without touching them.
- We must throw the umbrella to the side, lift our hands, and open ourselves to the reign of the Spirit — let the rain cover us, saturate us, wash us, and fill us.
- When we allow the Spirit to rain on us, weary and broken spirits are nourished; rain causes things to grow and be fruitful, the fruit of the Spirit begins to grow, restoration occurs, and things that have become dormant begin to flourish.
- Ministries and callings allowed to go dormant and put on the back burner are dormant because the rain of the Spirit is not flowing in a life; if we let the rain fall, something is getting ready to be restored.
- Healing flows with the rain of the Spirit: it is easier for the flesh to hold on to bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness than to let them go, but if we open ourselves and let God wash over us, the healing process begins.
The Drought Before the Rain
- In 1 Kings 17, Elijah the Tishbite told Ahab that there would not be dew nor rain in those years except according to his word.
- Three years later the word of the Lord came to Elijah: go show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain upon the earth.
- Elijah answered Ahab's charge that he troubled Israel by pointing to Ahab's house, which had forsaken the commandments of the Lord; he proposed that each side build an altar and sacrifice, and whichever god sent fire to consume the sacrifice, let him be God.
- The prophets of Baal danced and chanted and prayed and nothing happened; Elijah poured water over his wood and sacrifice and prayed, and fire fell from heaven and consumed the wood, the sacrifice, and the water.
- The people realized their mistake and turned back to God, and as their hearts turned back, Elijah prophesied to Ahab that there was a sound of an abundance of rain, even though it had not rained for years.
Scriptures: 1 Kings 17
Praying from the Mountaintop
- The word the Lord gave him for this church: I am getting ready to send the rain, and I hear the sound of an abundance of rain.
- Elijah went to the top of the mountain because from there they could see the sea and see as far as possible when the clouds and the storm began to roll in; it is a form of faith to be on the mountaintop looking for the rain because you have been praying.
- The church has been praying for rain — for renewal, for restoration, for growth, and for revival.
- God spoke to him that the rain he is getting ready to send is first of all for the church: the church is going to be revived, refreshed, and begin to grow again.
Dormant Grass and Dry Ground
- In a dream in the middle of the night he saw, at ground level, dormant brown grass lying over on one side and dry barren dirt with a few pieces of grass popping through on the other.
- A storm rolled in, and as the water began to fall, the dormant grass that was thought dead greened up and began to rise.
- God said this pictured individuals in the church who have grown dormant spiritually — through things going on in their lives, families, work, or because of COVID — not dead, but dormant and lying over; when the rain of the Spirit comes, they will stand up, restored, renewed, and revived.
- The dry ground carried a twofold meaning: ministries and callings that have lain dormant, from fear or from what was going on in a life, will begin to pop up as the rain falls.
- It also pictured seedlings for family members and souls that have been prayed for: grass blades popping up as the rain falls are a sign of revival in the people we have prayed for.
Keep Looking Until You See Something
- Elijah sent his servant to look for the rain, and the servant came back saying there was nothing; Elijah, confident in the word of God, sent him back to look again and again.
- Elijah did not go off his own feeling — he had heard a sound of an abundance of rain — so the servant had to keep going and looking until he saw something happening.
- God spoke that the church has been praying without seeing anything that looks like lightning, a cloud, or even rain, yet they heard the sound, so they must keep looking and keep watching; do not stop looking — have faith even though it is not happening right now, because it is still going to happen.
I Have Not Given Up on Them
- On another night God showed him individuals who had been praying for their children: a circle of people standing with both hands raised, saying, "God, save my son" — many of them praying for adult children who are not serving God today, standing in the gap in intercession.
- He woke in the middle of the night, and God spoke words about their lost loved ones — I have not given up on them, and neither should you — and he grabbed his phone and typed them down.
- God has not given up on your son or your daughter; keep walking out to the mountain and watching over the sea for the cloud, because it is coming, even if there is no visible sign yet.
- When the servant finally reported a small cloud, only the size of a man's hand, that was all the confirmation Elijah needed, because he had already heard the sound of the abundance of rain.
- The word spoken today is itself the form of your cloud: look on the horizon, for your cloud is already out there, and a storm and a wind of the Spirit are getting ready to blow in an abundance of rain upon you, this church, and your sons, daughters, and families.
- He closed by declaring that the rain of the Spirit is getting ready to fall: the rain is on the horizon, and the rain is upon us.

first kings chapter 18 and verse 41. it says and elijah said unto hey ahab get thee up eat and drink for there is a sound of abundance of rain ahab went up to eat and drink bible says elijah went up to the top of carmel and he cast himself down upon the earth and he put his face between his knees and he said to a servant go up and look toward the sea he went up and he looked and he said there is nothing he said go again seven times it came to pass at the seventh time that he said behold there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea it's small it's little it's like a man's hand he said go up and say to ahab prepare thy chariot and get thee down the rain stopped the night not came to pass in the meanwhile that the heaven was black with clouds and with wind and there was a great rain there was a great rain i've come to preach today there is a sound of abundance of rain the lord's been dealing with me over the last couple weeks he's revealed some things i told pastor he's given me some dreams or visions about this very thing and today i want to do more than just preach a sermon to you but if you allow me i want to deliver a message that god has given to apostolic pentecostal church would you lift your hands if you want to be changed would you lift your hands and would you just avail yourself to him today lord we avail ourselves to your word and to your spirit and to your reign god i pray that our hearts and our minds would be open to receive your word and to receive the rain that you want to pour out upon us we don't want to leave the same way that we walked in god but let us be changed by your spirit let us be changed by your power and by your reign that is in this place today i thank you and i thank you would you clap your hands before you're seated and just give them another great praise amen and you may be seated
rain water also called precipitation as a natural feature of the earth's water system air currents in the atmosphere bring evaporated water from the ocean and the earth's surface up into the sky the evaporated liquid condenses in the cold air forming moisture filled rain clouds and as you have seen it and experienced it as the rain clouds begin to roll in the rain begins to fall rainwater's most well-known and most important effect is providing you with water to drink water is essential for life itself i said water is essential for life itself without rain things become dormant without rain growth stops without rain things begin to die and when we experience a drought here on earth the grass starts to wither and die trees start to lose their leaves rivers lakes and oceans begin to dry up an outbreak of disease starts to happen in the plant and animal world when there is a drought everything is dry and death is on the doorstep when you look at the desert it gets less than 10 inches of rain per year most times it is a hundred plus degrees during the day the desert is a barren land nothing grows in a desert nothing flourishes there is no life to speak of why because it is dry and it is hot and it is barren and it does not get enough rain and it does not get enough water
throughout the bible you will see that rain and water is paralleled to the spirit in john 7 and 37 and the last day the great day of the feast jesus stood and cried saying if any man thirst let him come unto me and drink he that believeth on me as the scripture hath said out of his belly shall throw rivers of living water verse 39 but this spake he of the spirit spiritually speaking when there is no rain in your life a drought begins to happen spiritual things become dormant there is no growth leaves start changing colors bitterness begins to grow fear begins to flourish anger and resentment and unforgiveness start popping up spiritual disease can flourish in a drought and spiritual things begin to die it seems like when we find ourself in a drought we blame god we blame people we blame circumstances everything around us is to blame i submit to you today that when we find ourselves in a drought you find yourself in a spiritual drought that is a good time for us to examine ourselves have i been reading the word of god consistently have i been praying have i been fasting have i allowed the spirit to reign in my life you see when we come into the house of god and this isn't just limited to church and we begin to praise his name and his glory and as rain begins to fall the reign of the spirit comes down and when that happens we have two choices either we can lift our hands up and we can let that rain fall on our life or we can pop open an umbrella of distraction and not get touched by the rain i've seen this happen in churches and maybe even in our services where the power of the spirit is moving and flowing and raining upon us but for some reason some of us are just sitting there not moving and not responding and not letting the rain the rain wash upon us because our flesh wars with our spirit when we are in a dry place and a barren place and the rain of the spirit is falling it is easy for us to pop open an umbrella and keep us from receiving the rain that is falling down upon us
can i preach to you for just a few minutes there is an umbrella of bitterness that happens from things that have happened maybe it was 10 or 15 years ago or maybe it was just recently that that i become bitter and as the spirit of god is raining down it's easy for me just to pop open this umbrella and stop the rain from touching me there's an umbrella of resentment resenting people maybe because of blessings that they're receiving maybe it's because of ministries that they are involved in that we're not involved in but we want to be involved in and when the power of the spirit is moving it could be in our house or it could be in this church it's so easy for us to get sidetracked from the rain that's falling upon us and open up this umbrella of resentment and say no i'm not going to let the rain touch me today we could go all day long with bad attitudes and they wronged me and look at them sitting on the other side of the church worshiping like nothing other ever happened and i know what they said to me and i know what they they said about me and i know what they they've been talking about and it's so easy church for us to pop open this umbrella and get a bad attitude while the power and the spirit of the rain is falling down and yet we're not getting touched by it unforgiveness we talked about that last week and fear of what people might think and fear about what is going on around us and fear distracts us and sometimes when we have fear we are unintentionally opening up this umbrella and the power of god is falling but we've got an umbrella open and we're trying to just hide underneath it and the spirit the rain isn't able to touch us child of god we must guard ourselves against using the umbrella to cover us from the reign of the spirit letting things we face and feelings we have cover us from being open to receive the rain that is pouring down upon us on the contrary i've come to say god let it rain and let it rain upon me
i'll be super honest with you i got this this morning at home depot and i told my wife i said i tried to get i tried to get away from that part right there i took it out like three times because i've got a positive message that i'm gonna preach about the rain but there was something pastor there was something that was pushing me and nudging me to keep that in there there's somebody that's maybe here today or watching online that you know what i'm talking about the rain of the spirit has been fallen service after service or in your home and for some reason you've popped open this umbrella and you're not allowing it hear me today you got to get rid of that umbrella you've got to throw it to the side and you've got to lift your hands and open yourself to the reign of the spirit that is falling let the rain of the spirit cover me let the rain of the spirit saturate me oh let the rain of the spirit wash me and let the rain of the spirit fill me i wish you could hear today what i'm hearing there is a sound of an abundance of rain that is falling when we allow the spirit to rain on us our weary and our broken spirits are nourished by his spirit oh it's so easy for us to have a broken spirit because we're going through what we're going through and pop this up and open and just let the rain fall all around us but if we will allow it the rain of the spirit will refresh us and will nourish us and will help us rain causes things to grow and be fruitful and if you'll let the rain fall upon you fruit of the spirit will begin to grow in your life restoration occurs things that have become dormant in your life begin to flourish i felt this in prayer that ministries and callings that you have allowed to go dormant that you have put on the back burner are there because the rain of the spirit is not flowing in your life but if you will allow the rain of the spirit to come down upon you there is something that is getting ready to be restored in your life healing flows with the rain of the spirit if you're struggling i know the listen to me i know that these things are real but if you're struggling with bitterness or resentment or unforgiveness and you allow the reign of the holy ghost to flow through you healing begins to flow our flesh wars with our spirit and when god is sending down the rain our flesh wants us to hold on to these things that's why we pop up an umbrella when the spirit begins to move because it's easier to hold on to these things than to let them go i'm going to say that again it's easy for us to open up the umbrella because it's easier in our flesh for us to hold on to some things rather than let them go but if you will allow god to wash over you and reign upon you the healing is going to come healing is going to come because your spirit is saying i'm going to open myself i'm going to let those things in i'm going to allow the reign of the spirit to start the healing process in my life would you lift your hands right now if that's your prayer would you say god let the healing process start in my life god i'm opening myself i'm getting rid of this umbrella i'm opening myself to the rain of your spirit into the healing that you want to do hear me somebody today there is a sound of an abundance of rain that's getting ready to fall
in first kings chapter 17 elijah the tishbite who was in the habit inhabitants of gilead said unto ahab as the lord of israel liveth before whom i stand there shall not be due nor rain these years but according to my word three years later it came to pass after many days that the word of the lord came to elijah in the third year saying go show thyself unto ahab he said and i will send rain upon the earth it came to pass ahab saw elijah and he said unto him art he who troubles israel and he answered and said i have not troubled israel but thou in thy father's house that ye have forsaken the commandments of the lord and you have followed balaam and you know this portion of scripture when elijah comes together and he says let's find out who is the real true god he said you make an altar and have a sacrifice and i'll make an altar and have a sacrifice and whoever's god sends fire down and consumes the sacrifice let him be god you know the story the prophets of baal put their sacrifice on the altar and they danced and they chanted and they prayed and nothing ever happened elijah actually made fun of him and then elijah put his sacrifice on the altar and he got water and he poured that water all over the wood and he poured that water all over the sacrifice and he began to pray and when he prayed fire fell from heaven and consumed the wood and the sacrifice and the water the people then realized their mistake they realized that they were wrong and they turned back to god and notice this as they realize their mistake elijah began to prophesy to ahab and he said there is a sound of an abundance of rain as the people turned back their hearts to god the prophet uh all of a sudden heard the word of god and he went to the king and he said there is a sound a hab of an abundance of rain what do you mean it hasn't rained for years it's been dry there's been a drought no rain has come but i want you to be encouraged king that there is a sound of an abundance of rain
the word that the lord gave to me for apostolic pentecostal church is this i'm getting ready to send the rain and i hear that there is a sound of an abundance of rain elijah went to the top of the mountain and he threw himself down on the mountain and he put his head between his knees and he began to pray it is here that god began to reveal to me people in this church that have gone to the top of the mountain where you can see elijah went to the he could have prayed anywhere but he went to the top of the mountain so that they could see the sea so that they could see as far as possible when the clouds and the storm begin to roll in it is a form of faith because you as it were are on the mountaintop and you are looking into the distance and you are looking for the rain and you are looking for the clouds because you've been praying and praying and praying as elijah prayed you have been praying for rain you have been praying for renewal you have been praying for restoration you have been praying for growth and you have been praying for revival the revival that's getting ready to come through the rain it's not just a revival of new souls but god spoke to me and said that the rain that he is getting ready to send first of all is for the church the church is going to be revived the church is going to be refreshed and the church is going to begin to grow again
it was in the middle of the night and uh i had this dream i don't know if you want to call it a dream or a vision whatever but what i saw was i was on the same plane as the ground on the left side of the ground there was grass but it was dormant it was brown it was long but it was laying over on the right side of this picture i saw just dry barren dirt but with just a few pieces of grass that were popping through as i stood there and as i watched from ground level what was happening all of a sudden a storm rolled in and as that storm rolled in and the water began to fall that dormant grass that we thought was dead that was going to just dissipate and be there no more all of the sudden as the rain began to fall that grass began to green up and it began to rise up god spoke to me and said that this as individuals in our church that have grown dormant to spiritually because of whatever is going on in your life or your family at home or at work or because of covid but but there is some dormancy in your life and you're not where you used to be you used to stand tall as the grass but over time you have become dormant you're not dead but you're dormant and you're laying over the holy ghost began to speak to me as i saw that that he's getting ready to send the rain of the spirit and when the rain comes that grass blades are going to stand up and you are going to be restored and renewed and revived would you stand with me right now would you lift your hands and would you say god restore me and revive me and renew me oh god oh god help us be seated for just a minute
the second part the second part of that i saw dry ground and as the rain began to fall on that ground grass blades began to pop up through the ground and the god spoke to me and gave me a twofold meaning of that dream first off he said there were ministries and there were callings that have been laying dormant and people's lives you have felt the calling and you knew the calling was there maybe it was upon your children maybe it was upon you but you knew it was there but for some reason because of fear or or because of what was going on in your life it has just been on the back burner and is laid dormant god spoke to me and said that as he sends this rain as the rain begins to fall the ministries and the calling that he has put in your life are going to begin to pop up he also spoke to me and said that there are seedlings there for family members and for souls that have been prayed for i thought that it was for planting that that he had we had put out there and that planted but he specifically told me that it was for people that we have prayed for that we have prayed for and as the rain began to come down and as the rain began to fall the grass leaves begin to pop up and it was a sign of revival that's going to happen in the people that we have prayed for as elijah has been praying for the rain you have been praying and god has heard your prayer eli just sent his servant to go and look for the rain after he prayed and he came back and he said there is nothing but elijah knowing that it was about to happen turled the servant to go back and look again can you see the servant coming back the second time elijah there is nothing there go back and look again okay come back elijah there's nothing there elijah go back and look again you keep going and looking and seeing until you see something happening hear me child of god do not stop looking have faith even though it's not happening right now it's still going to happen elijah kept sending his servant back he prayed but it seemed like there was nothing happening there was no rain company coming but elijah was confident in the word of god you go back and keep looking he said because in the beginning he said i hear a sound of abundance of rain he didn't just go off of his own feeling but he said there was something back there and when i was back here i heard there was a sound of an abundance of rain
so servant you keep looking until you see something we might not be able to see it yet but i've come to declare that it is coming the rain of the spirit is coming god spoke to me that you've been praying but you have not seen anything that looks any anything like lightning that resembles a cloud or even rain but you know that you heard the sound of abundance of brain so you have to keep looking and you have to keep watching this goes into the second part of what he showed me
another night specifically he showed me individuals in a dream that had been praying for their children it wasn't very long but as i remember there was a circle of people that were seated around that were standing actually in a big open area and god was there and he said what can i do for you i can go to people individually in this service in this church that i saw faces of people that were there that day as they did that as he said that it wasn't like this it wasn't one of these numbers but the people that were in that circle raised both hands like this they said god save my son many of them were adult children that these people were praying for that are not serving god today and as i i saw as it were you standing in the gap raising your hands and intercession and the gap saying god save my child he woke me up in the middle of the night i woke up out of my bed and he spoke these words crisp as i'm speaking to you today and i grabbed my phone and i began to type them and write them down referring to your lost loved ones he said i have not given up on them he said i have not given up on them and neither should you would you stand with me musicians can come as i laid there in my bed i kind of thought oh god i i i we're not giving up on them and and i know that you haven't given up on them but there was just an affirmation in the holy coast in the middle of that night that god wanted to speak to some individual in this church that he has not given up on your son or your daughter he has not given up on them and i've come to affirm you in the holy ghost do not give up on them but as you have been praying you keep walking out there to the mountain and looking over the sea and watch for the cloud because it's coming it might not seem like it's coming right now there might not be any visible thing or visible sign but i can promise you under the anointing of the holy ghost that there is a sound of an abundance of rain there is a sound of an abundance of rain
elijah's servant came back to him and said elijah i see a cloud but it's a small cloud it's only the size of a man's hand hear me folks that's all elijah needed to hear that is all the confirmation that elijah needed to hear because he's already heard the sound of abundance of rain and they've already been standing looking in faith and as long as there's a small cloud in the sky that is all he needed to hear because he knows that there is rain in the horizon there is rain in the horizon god sent me today to speak this word in your life the word that he has sent to you today is the form of your cloud that's what he spoke to me the word not my word the word that he's given you today is the form of your cloud so what that means is if you'll look on the horizon your cloud's already out there right now and there is getting ready to blow in a storm and a wind of the spirit and there is getting ready to be an abundance of rain that's going to fall upon you and upon this church and upon your sons and your daughters and your family oh would you just lift your hands right now would you just avail yourself to the spirit and what he's speaking into your life right now somebody get ready the rain of the spirit is getting ready to fall the rain is on the horizon the rain is upon us
