Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Daily: Staying Connected to the Source
- "Daily" means done, produced, or occurring every day — and whether we realize it or not, most of us already live by daily routines.
- He sketches his own routine: the alarm, taking the kids to school, the office, lunch, meetings, home, dinner, homework, and putting the children to bed.
- New Year's resolutions are attempts to improve what we do daily — to form better habits and improve our quality of life.
- Christians have daily routines in the natural and in the spiritual; our daily spiritual practices — our spiritual disciplines — are how we stay connected in our relationship with Jesus.
- If we do not connect daily to our source of power, we find ourselves depleted of spiritual strength.
- He presents three daily practices that will sharpen us spiritually and take us deeper in our walk with God: daily bread, a daily cross, and a daily church.
Daily Bread: Jesus Is Enough
- Matthew 6:11 — "Give us this day our daily bread."
- In John 6, Jesus had just fed the five thousand; the next day the crowd came back asking for more signs, and Jesus pointed them past the manna to the true bread from heaven — Moses did not give that bread, but the Father gives it.
- The manna God sent in the desert would spoil if they gathered more than they needed; it was a miracle, but it was not the true bread.
- John 6:33 — the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world; Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life" — whoever comes to him will never hunger and whoever believes on him will never thirst.
- Deuteronomy 8:3 — man does not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.
- "Give us this day our daily bread" is not a demand for more; it is a declaration that Jesus is enough.
- God is a daily God: daily he sends strength, daily mercy is renewed, daily we find peace, daily he speaks to us and nourishes us.
- We need Jesus daily — we need to talk to him, encounter him, walk with him, and pray daily; we must spend time with him every day.

Daily Cross: Deny Yourself and Submit Your Will
- Luke 9:23 — "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
- To first-century Jews the cross was a torture tool the Romans had introduced to terrorize — a public humiliation that always represented death; when Jesus spoke of carrying a cross daily, he meant that something must die before we can live.
- We must die to ourselves — our rights and our desire to be our own masters — and submit our will, goals, plans, desires, families, jobs, children, possessions, finances, and futures to God.
- Submission is hard because we have our own plans for where our family, job, and ministry should be; we cannot push doors open, but must come to where we say, "God, I don't understand everything, but I submit my will to you."
- Jesus himself prayed, "Let this cup pass from me," but submitted: "Nevertheless, not my will, but thy will be done."
- Submission must be renewed every day — surrendering today does not mean we will feel the same tomorrow — so daily we get before the Lord and submit everything to him again.
- Romans 6:7 — "He that is dead is freed from sin"; we are to reckon ourselves dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God, and not let sin reign in our mortal bodies.
- We must daily deny our flesh, daily deny sin, and daily fight temptations, yielding ourselves to God as instruments of righteousness.
- When we daily receive the bread of life and daily deny ourselves in exchange for his will, we live in unity with the purpose of God.
Scriptures: Luke 9:23; Romans 6:7
A Daily Church: The Commission and the Early Church
- The first two practices lead to the third: we must be a daily church.
- Drawing on Stan Gleason's Follow to Lead, he notes that Jesus knew he could not make a lasting impact from a distance — the real work had to be done on a small scale, personally investing in individuals; Jesus paid attention to just one person.
- The final words Jesus spoke on earth, immediately before his ascension, were the Great Commission — Matthew 28:19: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit."
- The first-century church was more relational and less institutional in nature than the twenty-first-century church, and that emphasis on relational disciple-making empowered it to grow rapidly.
- Acts 2:42 — they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
- Acts 2:46 — they continued daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house.
- Acts 2:47 — the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved; the Lord could add daily because the first-century church was a daily church.

Sunday Is Not the Only Day
- If we are not fulfilling the Great Commission Monday through Saturday, Sunday becomes a pep rally or a motivational meeting instead of ministry.
- An "I need" mentality — I need a blessing, I need a healing, I need peace, I need strength, I need a word — is selfish and must change; Jesus was never about himself, he was always about others.
- We need to bring somebody along for the ride so they can experience the power of God, focusing on what others need — people we encounter every day who have no idea their needs can be fulfilled in the house of God.
- Sunday is not the only day the Holy Ghost is poured out or someone can be baptized: someone can receive the Holy Ghost in a living room on Tuesday night, be healed in a Walmart aisle on Thursday, or find peace at a gas pump on Friday.
- You could call the church staff or pastoral team on any day of the week to baptize somebody who does not want to wait until Sunday.
A Healing in the Walmart Aisle
- In December, his parents were at Walmart with his children, looking for Christmas lights, when a man standing nearby joined their conversation.
- The man sat on the board that signed the dentistry licenses in Missouri; as they talked about the Lord and a blessing his mother had received, the conversation turned toward God.
- His father told the man that the Lord had spoken to him: there were angels standing around them in that aisle, and the man had a nodule in his neck that was cancerous — but if he would let him pray for him there, God would heal him and he would not have to deal with that cancer.
- The man said he had already had cancer in his neck one time and did not want to go through it again; he reached out both hands and asked them to pray for him.
- They took his hands and prayed right there in the aisle, and the speaker believes God healed him in that moment.
- Wednesday and Sunday are not the only times for ministry or miracles; if we will step out, minister, and be a daily church, God will add to the church, he will move, and he will work.
The Call to Become the Daily Church
- Revival is not only ten, twenty, or thirty people receiving the Holy Ghost in one Sunday service; the greatest revival this church will experience will come by disciples becoming the daily church Jesus modeled and called us to be.
- Our daily routines are full from the moment we wake up until we go to bed, with a million things begging for our attention — the call is to align those routines with the words of Jesus.
- Align your daily life: daily seek the bread of life, daily deny yourself and bear your cross, and daily be the church — daily discipling and ministering to the people around you.
- If we align our daily lives with the word of God, spiritual growth will begin to take place in our own lives, in the lives of others around us, and in this church.
- He leads the church in prayer, asking God to be their daily bread, to help them take up the cross daily, and to help them be the church well beyond the building and beyond their scheduled times together.

well it's good to see everybody in the house of the lord on this wednesday night and just coming and feeling his presence is worth coming amen you can be seated i'm going to read some scripture here in just a little bit but i'm going to speak tonight on this topic and it is daily daily the word daily defines mean defined means done produced or occurring every day and most of us what we we could say i guess or we call it a daily routine we have and even if we don't realize it most of us have things going on consistently that we do on a daily basis my daily routine looks something like this my alarm goes off at 7am and my wife gets the kids ready for school i'm just trying to wake up during that time but i do take the kids to school and after i take the kids to school i head to the office about eleven o'clock i start eating well i call jared arnold usually and three to five times a week i would say him and i go to lunch around 11 o'clock i try to plan all my meetings around that lunch time by the way then during that time i measure signs i i have some meetings here and there usually head back to the office until about three or four or one or two or whatever whenever i get it all done and then decide to go home and once home get dinner ready and start eating dinner i don't make it every night my wife does sometimes but i do a lot of times and then the kids of course have homework and i don't do that with them normally but i do support her when she's doing that with them i'm a supporting husband and supportive husband and then we put them to bed usually together many people around the beginning of the year have these new year's resolutions and this is an attempt to better uh what they do on the daily to form better habits and improve their quality of life as christians we have both daily routines in the natural and we have daily routines in the spiritual and we often refer to these daily spiritual routines as spiritual disciplines our daily spiritual practices are ways that we stay connected in our relationship with jesus but daily is the key if we don't connect daily to our source of power we find ourselves depleted of spiritual strength tonight i'd like to present uh to you three daily practices that i believe will sharpen us spiritually and take us deeper in our walk with god the first one is going to be daily bread brother woodward this past weekend spoke on this topic and uh enlightened me a little bit and i want to speak on that matthew chapter 6 and 11 says give us this day our daily bread in john 6 jesus has just fed the 5 000 in verse 28 then said he they unto him what shall we do that we might work the works of god jesus answered and said unto them this is the work of god that ye believe on him who he hath sent they said therefore unto him what signs show us thou then that we may see and believe thee what dost thou work our fathers that eat manna in the desert as it is written he gave them bread from heaven to eat then jesus said unto them verily verily i say unto you moses gave you not that bread from heaven but my father giveth you the true bread from heaven god told the children of israel that he would send daily bread or daily manna to them in the desert but if they gathered more than they need that it would spoil so jesus is telling these people that come to him that that moses did not give them this bread or manna but god sent this manna from heaven this bread that fell from heaven was a miracle but it was not the true bread jesus tells his followers and john today the true bread from heaven has arrived and this changed everything now god was providing more than just food for his people god was providing salvation watch this next verse john 6 and 33 he said for the bread of god is he which cometh down from heaven and giveth life unto the world then said they unto him lord evermore give us this bread and jesus said unto them i am the bread of life he that cometh after me shall never hunger and he that believeth on me shall never thirst jesus in this portion of scripture evidently referring to this manna from heaven that would spoil he said that it would spoil if they gathered too much however this bread of life was better than any manna he had provided in the desert this man had left his people hungering for more but the bread of life would forever quench their hunger deuteronomy 8 and 3 and he humbled thee and suffered thee to hunger and fed thee with manna and which thou knewest not neither did thy fathers know that he might make thee known that man that doth not live by bread only but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the lord doth man live jesus was telling them that he was everything that they would need there was no amount of manna or miracles that could ever fill the emptiness of their hearts they must have him and they must have him daily in this portion of scripture jesus feeds 5000 the following day they come back to him wanting more show us more signs that we may believe they said and jesus responds i am the bread of life and until you come unto me you will continue to try and fill the void and the emptiness in your heart and life you must have the bread of life and when you have the bread of life he will be enough so we can pray give us this day our daily bread jesus in this portion is not talking about once he's talking about needs and jesus is at the top of the need list we need jesus daily we need to talk to jesus daily we need to encounter jesus daily we need to walk with jesus daily we need to pray daily raymond woodward said give us this day our daily bread is not a demand for more it is a declaration that jesus is enough along with salvation jesus was trying to get across to them that he would be enough for them god is a daily god say that with me a daily god god's a daily god daily he sends strength daily mercy is renewed daily we find peace daily he speaks to us daily he nourishes us god is a daily god in order to experience all of these things though we must spend time with him every day we've got to do it daily we must have a daily encounter with jesus our daily bread the bread of life he is all we need give us this day our daily bread
secondly we need a daily cross in luke 9 23 jesus says if any man will come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me jesus is telling his followers that's you and me that if we desire to follow him we have to daily deny ourselves and take up our cross daily the mention of a cross by a jewish rabbi would have been shocking to these first century jews the cro the cross was a torture tool introduced by the romans to terrorize terrorize those who would speak against caesar the cross was a public humiliation that always represented death it always represented death so when jesus said that in order to follow me we must carry a cross daily he meant that something must die before we can live we must die to ourselves our rights and our desire to be our own masters the only way to follow jesus is to be willing to submit our will to his will so the only way to follow jesus is we must be willing to submit our will to his will we must submit our goals we must submit our plans we must submit our desires and our families and our jobs and our children we must submit our possessions and our finances and our futures all to the will of god we no longer belong to ourselves nor do we live for ourselves but we live with one purpose to fulfill the will of god at any cost our purpose is to fulfill the will of god at any cost personally i've experienced some of these things in my life it's hard to submit sometimes the reason being is because we we have what we call plans we have goals we have things that we think should happen we have times in our ministry we think our ministry should be at this point and at this place we think our family should be here or maybe we should be here in our job or or here in the ministry but oftentimes we can't push doors open in fact we shouldn't be pushing doors open for any of those things we've got to come to a time of submission where we say god this is where i want to be and this is where i think i should be and we don't we tell them that i tell them that maybe you don't god what's going on in my life right now i thought i'd be here at a and b and c and and i feel like i'm way back here but when we begin to submit our life to god god i don't understand everything but i'm going to submit my will to you i'm going to submit my plans to you i'm going to submit my goals to you i'm going to spit my ministry i'm submitting everything to you because i want your will and my life and when we submit to him it will allow us the opportunity to follow him and for jesus fulfilling the will of god meant he was going to die on a cross he traded his human will for the will of the father and his human frailty he did say he prayed lord let this cup pass from me but he said nevertheless he submitted when he spoke those words nevertheless lord god if you can do this father if you can do this take this cup from me i don't want this cup but nevertheless not my will but thy will be done my life submission to the will of god can only come when we die to our flesh and all of its desires and hear me somebody we have to do that every single day because today i can get on my knees this morning and i can pray and i can say god i'm submitting my life to you all of my plans all of my ambitions all of my desires all of my goals all of my wants everything that i am and everything that i have i submit it to you today but that doesn't mean that tomorrow i'm going to wake up and feel the same way so every day i've got to get down before the lord and say today god i'm submitting myself to you again today god i'm submitting everything to you again every day we must submit romans 6 and 7 for he that is dead is freed from sin now if we be dead with christ we believe that we shall also live with him knowing that christ being raised from the dead dieth no more death hath no more dominion over him for in that he died he died into sin once but in that he liveth he liveth unto god likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto god through jesus christ our lord let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body that ye should obey the lust thereof neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin but yield yourselves unto god submit yourselves to god as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto god for sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under the law but under grace we must daily deny our flesh we must daily deny sin we must daily fight temptations and determine to yield ourselves unto god we must submit ourselves unto god we must carry our cross daily and submit to god and when we daily prioritize living in relationship with the bread of life and we daily deny our will in exchange for his will we live in unity with the purpose of god when we're daily having the bread of life when we're daily spending time with jesus and daily denying ourselves we are living in unity with the purpose and the will of god
and i feel like we have to we have to do these two things to get to this third one and that is we must be a daily church we must be a daily church i chose to read follow to lead at the beginning of this year again to start this year off and if you have not read that book by brother stan gleason you need to read it because it will stir you and there are several things in this book that are gripping to me and i'll share a few of those with you tonight jesus understood that he could not make a lasting impact from a distance and he would need to do something more lasting than deliver delivering the sermon from the mount and working miracles the real work he came to do had to be done on a small scale that involved personally investing in individuals i spoke on this a few weeks ago that jesus pays attention to just one one person jesus was willing to go after and talk to and help the last words from someone on his or her her deathbed are treasured and preserved forever by their loved ones and the final words that jesus spoke while physically here on earth were uttered immediately prior to his ascension what would he say at this critical uh impressionable time at this moment jesus is getting ready to leave the earth he's getting ready to ascend into heaven and and he's getting ready to leave with his disciples his followers one last thing jesus could have chosen this time to say many things but as you and i know he chose to give his disciples what we call the great commission his last words on earth were go and make disciples matthew 28 19 therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father the son of the holy spirit the first century church was more relational and less institutional in nature than the 21st century church the early church continued daily in the temple and from house to house they shared their resources and they did this ministry together the emphasis on relational disciple making is what empowered the church to grow rapidly and spread like wildfire around the known world acts 2 and 42 says and they continued said fastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayers and fear came upon every soul and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles and all that believed were together and had all things common and sold their possessions and goods and parted them to all men as every man had need watch this in verse 46 and they continuing daily with one accord and the temple and breaking bread from house to house that eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart praising god and having favor with all people and the lord added to the church daily such as should be saved according to acts 2 and 47 the lord added to the church daily such as were being saved there is only one possible explanation for why they were able to enjoy these daily conversions a few verses early it says so continuing daily with one accord and the temple breaking bread from house to house the lord could add daily to the church because the first century church was a daily church if we are not fulfilling the great commission monday through saturday then sunday has a different meeting for us don't get me wrong i love to come to church on sundays i love to come and feel the presence of god i i like to see each of you and and talk to you i need and desire direction from the word of god when it's preached and and there's something that's so powerful about us uh gathering together and not only just hearing the word together there's something that transpires there in the supernatural but but uh there's something that's so powerful as we begin to worship and lift up the king of kings together we can do that at home and and we should do that at home daily we should be doing that but there's just something that's so powerful about doing that together but if we are not a daily church daily discipleship with daily ministry happening happening and when sunday is the only ministry of the of the week our sundays becomes maybe a pep rally or a motivational meeting for all the church folks that's us i don't know about you but i'm ready to see some people filled with the holy ghost and these altars on sundays i don't know about you but we saw this sunday but i'm ready to see some people baptized in the name of jesus christ on some sundays but if we're not daily discipling people daily witnessing to people daily ministering to people intentionally talking to people about god every day it is unlikely that we're going to have anybody on sunday that needs the holy ghost or needs to be baptized if we're only concerned it's getting a little quiet in here if we're only concerned about we or i what can we or i get out of the service i think we've missed the point jesus was never about himself he was always about others this i and me mentality is selfish and it must change if we're going to see the influx of souls that god wants to bring to apostolic pentecostal church if we're only concerned about i all the time i need a blessing i need a healing i need peace i need strength i need a word i hope you haven't missed calculated what i'm trying to say i know that we need those things and i come into the house of god and i hope to receive those things sometimes as well those things are fine and and i understand that we need those things sometimes but if every service revolves around what i need then something must change we need i need to bring somebody along for the ride so that they can experience the power and the demonstration of almighty god we need to focus on what others need what they need i think this has to be intentional because i'm i'm right there with you it's easy for us to to go through our week and all the different things that are coming against us and man when i go to church on sunday i need i need it i need strength and i need peace and and i need a miracle or i need healing what if we're not careful we'll put all the focus on us and what we need and not focus on others around us because let me tell you something there is a great need in the lives of others that you encounter every single day i'm so thankful that you and i know that we can come to the house of god and we can experience the power of god and god can do all of those things but there are people that you and i encounter every single day that have no idea that they can have their needs fulfilled in the house of god i'll go a step further on this sunday service and say sunday is not the only day that the holy ghost is outpoured i'll tell you something else sunday is not the only day that we can baptize somebody in the name of jesus christ the early church was a daily church says and the lord added to the church daily such as should be saved it would be all right if somebody got the holy ghost in your living room on tuesday night we are blessed with a church staff and a pastoral team that are able to work full time in the ministry i didn't ask them this but i know it would be all right if you called them on on tuesday or wednesday morning or thursday and friday and say hey i've got somebody that needs to get baptized and they don't want to wait all the way till sunday they want to be baptized today come on church we've got to start being a daily church i'm talking about a daily church someone can be healed on thursday in walmart and one of the aisles healings don't only happen on sunday and wednesday services but healings can happen every day of the week it's time that we start being the church that he's called us to be and that is a daily church
i didn't ask my dad if i could share this but i'm going to share it and and he'll let me know if he was upset about it but in around december he went to walmart and uh him and my mom and they had my kids and he was looking for some christmas lights and he wanted to get some christmas lights and and put them on the house a stranded ran out or something while he was standing there he was talking to my mom and and uh he said well sue they don't have anything here let's go to target and there was a man that was standing next to them and uh that man said well don't go to target we just came from there and they don't have any lights either i mean that's just that's how everything is right now isn't it nobody has anything so i hope my my mom's watching this i know she is but you had to know that susie i don't mean any disrespect that my mom was going to give jesus to that man i i mean if he said a word to her he's going to she's going to talk to him about jesus she's going to slip it in one way somehow or another i promise you that and so somehow they got to talking about her braces she's going to kill me so they got to talking about her braces and this orthodontist and this blessing that she had got and and this man said well who was this orthodontist and she she said he said i probably signed her license he said i sit on the board and i signed all the dentistry license in missouri or in this area this guy was dressed very nice so they began to talk to him and and uh there's my dad as they're as they're talking to him a little bit about the lord and the blessing and you could kind of tell that he was receptive to the blessing of god my dad looked at him and he said the lord just spoke to me also there were angels standing around them and walmart and the christmas light isle my dad said the lord spoke to me told me to tell you that you have a nodule in your neck that is cancerous he said but you don't have to be afraid if you'll let me pray for you here god is going to heal you and you will not have to deal with that cancer so my mom said she looked i think she was nervous she was nervous she was she looked and she said michael i didn't see any nodules on his neck that man after my dad said that reached both of his hands out like this and he said would you pray for me he said i've already had cancer one time in my neck and i do not want to go through that again and they grabbed his hands and they began to pray and the power of the holy ghost took place right there in walmart and i believe that god healed him right in that aisle wednesday and sunday is not the only time that we do ministry wednesday and sunday is not the only days for miracles but if we will step out and we will minister and we will work and we will be a daily church god will add to the church he will move and he will work can i tell you today that someone could find peace on a friday at the gas pump if there's somebody in this local congregation that begins to follow the spirit and begin to minister to them they don't have to wait till sunday but if you'll go to them and and pray over them and speak to them you don't have to be afraid you just be sensitive to the voice of god you just be sensitive to the word of god and if you will do that he i promise you he will not leave you high and dry but he will be with you he will go with you he will give you the words to speak and he will do a work
coming to a close in the past when i thought of revival this is michael when i thought of revival i thought of a good service where 10 or 20 or or maybe even 30 people got the holy ghost in one service boy can you imagine 10 or 20 or 30 people getting the holy ghost that is revival that can happen it probably should be happening but i believe the greatest revival that this church is going to experience is not going to be limited to a sunday service no it's not it's going to come by disciples you and i becoming the daily church that jesus has modeled and jesus has called us to be a daily church a daily would you stand with me i'm talking about a daily church what would happen if each individual in this place made up in their mind that wednesday and sunday he's not cutting it i'm thankful for it oh i thank god that we have this time together but in order to receive the revival and the harvest that god wants to give this church we have got to become a daily church i know that we all have a busy daily routine our lives are full from the moment we wake up until we go to bed and there are a million things begging for our attention oh but if we would just align ourselves if we will just align ourselves if we would let us align our daily routines with the words of jesus daily seeking the bread of life he's everything that you'll ever need daily denying ourselves and bearing our cross and daily being the church that means daily discipling and ministering to people around us and if we will align our daily lives with the word of god spiritual growth will begin to take place not only in your life but in the lives of others around you and in this church would you lift your hands if that's your desire would you ask god to help you become the daily church god i pray that you would be our daily bread god let us let us take up our cross daily let us be the church why don't we take just a couple moments here we've got the time would you just lift your voice right now and respond with the lord speaking to us as a church as individuals oh god we are not content to be a church only on sundays and wednesdays but we feel that call to daily bread that call to the daily taking up of our cross that call to be the daily church we thank you jesus that that we can be the church well beyond this building lord and we can be the church well beyond our scheduled times together but indeed we are the church individually and as a body i pray you'd help us lord and help me i want to align my heart and my vision with yours we thank you jesus for your word your challenge to us tonight we ask for your help lord that we would be that daily church in the name of jesus in the name of jesus we pray
