Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Knowing God is not the same as being surrendered to God
- There is a difference between knowing God and being surrendered to God.
- Deuteronomy chapter 1 is not just history; it can be looked at as a holy mirror, reflecting what happens when people are brought to the edge of promise but refuse to step into it.
- Moses stands with the people and rehearses the journey, reminding them of where they have come from and of the promises still in front of them.
- It does us good to rehearse where God has brought us from; remembering our own journey makes us more compassionate toward others.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 1
The promise was settled — surrender was the problem
- God had already given the promise: "Behold, I have set the land before you. Go in and possess it."
- The land was not the issue; the giants, the mountains, and the adversaries were not the issue. The command was clear and the provision was already settled — the problem was never the promise, it was their surrender.
- God did not tell the people to go earn the land, but to go possess it. Promises are not attached to ability; God never asks for our ability, but He does ask for our obedience.
- Israel had three things — a word from God, the direction from God, and the promise from God — yet it is possible to stand at the edge of destiny and still hesitate: close to the promise, and still far from surrender.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 1:8
The tragedy of refusal: "Ye would not go up"
- The crux of the chapter, the breaking point of destiny, is found in verses 26-28: "Notwithstanding, ye would not go up," but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord.
- Rebellion started in private, not in public: they murmured in their tents, saying, "Because the Lord hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt." Before there was outward disobedience, there was inward resistance.
- The same God who delivered them from Egypt and parted the Red Sea was accused of hatred; when surrender is absent, distortion takes over, and we begin to question God's plan, God's goodness, and God's intention.
- Distortion grows by listening to the wrong voices — not enemies but brethren — familiar voices rooted in fear. Fear always magnifies the obstacle and minimizes our God; a surrendered life filters every voice through the Word of God.
- Israel's root problem was fear, mistrust, and rebellion. Surrender is not just giving something up; it is trusting someone completely — His plan, His timing, His protection, and His purpose.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 1:26-28
The cost of an unsurrendered life
- Verse 35 declared that not one of those who murmured in their tents would enter; a whole generation missed the promise — not because God changed His mind, but because they refused to align with His purpose, His way, His plan, His timing, His protection.
- We stay longer in a season of struggle when we choose not to surrender; cycles repeat when surrender is resisted — the same battles, the same frustrations, the same wilderness. An eleven-day journey took forty years to reach Kadesh Barnea.
- A surrendered life says, "God, I trust You even when I don't understand it," and obeys even when it is uncomfortable. Obedience is my responsibility; the outcome is God's responsibility.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 1:35
Abraham: one act of surrender unlocks generational blessing
- When God called Abraham to offer Isaac, it made no sense — it contradicted logic, emotion, and seemingly the promise itself after twenty-five years of waiting — but Abraham surrendered and trusted God beyond understanding.
- Because he obeyed out of surrender, that one act of obedience revealed the provision of God — a ram in the thicket — reaffirmed the promise, and released abundant blessing.
- One act of surrender can unlock generational blessings into our children and family, and can reverse generational curses; it begins with surrendering our lives and our conversations to the Lord, affirming in our tents what God is saying instead of murmuring.
What are you hesitating to obey?
- The question for the church: what has God told you to step into that you are hesitating to obey — a calling, a step of faith, a deeper level of trust?
- A surrendered life must have trust, must lose control, and will take a step of faith. Don't let fear speak louder than your faith, don't let comfort override your calling, and don't let hesitation rob you of your destiny.
- What would you do tonight if you knew you would not fail — get in ministry, teach a Bible study, join a serve team, greet, serve in Sunday school or outreach, take up a van route? Hesitation asks, "What if I start and don't finish?" — but starting might unlock revival in your home and life.
A surrendered life serves and connects the body
- At Brother Jim Hampton's funeral, the preacher heard man after man tell how Hampton had taught them home Bible studies, spent time with them, and created community — he left asking who will fill those shoes. Every text message, phone call, and handshake matters; surrender includes surrendering our time.
- God is not trying to take something from you; He is trying to lead you into something. Some 375 people call this church home, and one man cannot touch them all — surrendered lives are needed in every section to notice who is missing and reach them.
- A surrendered life says it is not about me; it is about the body. Connection requires getting here early and not leaving early, and marriage itself works by the surrender of two wills becoming one — the same way we become one in Him.
- People need to belong while they are becoming: new people must feel love and connection as they grow, and those who are surrendered must not drift away from surrender while the hungry are moving toward it.
The call to go up and possess
- "Don't just want God to be in your life — let Him be Lord over your life." A surrendered life will always step forward when God says, "Go up and possess the land."
- The call goes out to stand and lift our hands in surrender: yes, there are giants in the land and the cities are walled, but we have a promise, a word, a plan, and leaders already in place who will take this church further; this generation can be part of the one that goes in and watches the walls fall.
- A generation that refused did not watch the walls fall, and Moses on Nebo longed to go into the land; the decision is ours — a surrendered life decides who goes and who dies. (The capture ends here, mid-thought, with no closing prayer recorded.)

I uh felt a a clear direction from the Lord today for this for this sun uh this Wednesday evening, I should say. And just a a few words that have stood out to me as I begin to prepare uh for this message. And I do believe the Lord has uh something for us tonight. There is a difference between knowing God and being surrendered to God. There is a difference. As I began a journey in Deuteronomy chapter 1, just revisiting, I I felt directed to go back to Deuteronomy 1 and just just look one more time at some what may appear to be hidden truths. I I quickly discovered that Deuteronomy chapter chapter 1 is not just history. It's not the history of the children of Israel. But I believe that Deuteronomy chapter 1 can be looked upon and looked at as a holy mirror. And you may say, "What does that what does that mean to me, pastor?" I It reflects what happens when people are brought to the edge of promise, but refuse to step into it. You see in chapter one, Moses is getting ready to commission and depart. Moses stands with the people of God and begins to rehearse the journey. He begins to remind them of where they have come from, but yet the promises of God that are in front of them. I think it would behoove all of us to from time to time rehearse where you've come from, rehearse what you've been through, remind yourself where God brought you. I think it does us good to rehearse the journey because sometimes I think we can get far removed from the journey that we forget where we've come from. But I find myself being more compassionate with others if I remember where I've come from. It's kind of like putting myself back in their shoes. We've been in freedom. We've been set free. We've been liberated. We forgot the struggle that we went through to get where we are. But every once in a while, if we could rehearse or remember our journey, and that's all Moses was trying to do. He was trying to remind them of what God had done and what God had already spoken.
For in Deuteronomy 1:8, he said, "Behold, I have set the land before you. Go in and possess it." God had already given the promise. And this is what I got out of studying that the land was not the issue. The land wasn't the issue. The giants were not the issue. The mountains were not the issue. The the adversaries or those that occupied those cities that they were going to possess was not the issue. For the command was clear. And I'll even say it like a the the provision was already settled. But the problem was never promise. The problem was never the promise. It was their surrender. Yeah. A call that I felt today in the Holy Ghost to send and to preach to our church tonight was a call to possess what God has promised. Uh it is not the will of God for us to stand on the edge just merely looking in and gazing into the promises of God. God did not tell Moses to tell the people, "You're going to go earn the land." No. God told Moses, "Tell them to go possess the land. There are seasons in our lives where God is not asking about my ability. He's not asking about your ability. Promises are not attached to ability. Because when God promises something, more than likely in the natural abilities of man, it's impossible. But when you walk in promise, uh he takes what you are not able to do uh and he gives you the strength to do it because when you do, it brings glory unto him. So he never asked for your ability, but what he does ask is for your obedience. That's the big difference. A lot of times when God puts something in us and and God may speak a word and God may uh give you a promise, we automatically if we're not spiritually minded in processing it spiritually, we look at a promise, we look at a task, we look at a word and we automatically filter it through the flesh, right? Well, I'm not able. I'm not qualified. I don't know if I Moses go stand before Pharaoh. I I can't I I I got a speech impediment. I'm not looking at your ability. I'm not looking at what you can't do.
I'm looking at what I can do through you. Come on. I I feel like something is sh and I said this Sunday, there is a shift in our church that if we can get this in God's calling for acts of obedience in our daily living for him because the children of Israel had three things. They had a word from God. They even had the direction from God. And they had the promise from God. Now that's to me that's a recipe for success. To me, that meant if I've got a word from God, I got the direction from God, and I've got the promises of God, what am I waiting on? If I've rehearsed where I've come from, yes, if I'm reminded, he brought me through the RED SEA. I WATCHED PHARAOH AND HIS CHARIOTS get drowned in the Red Sea and we danced across on dry ground. Amen. What am I fearful of? And what am I? Some of you right now, if you look back over your life, God delivered you from some things. GOD SET SOME THINGS FREE IN your life. GOD PUT YOUR HOME TOGETHER. GOD GAVE YOU A SPOUSE. GOD'S BLESSED YOU WITH CHILDREN. GOD'S BLESSED YOU WITH THE ability to work. And you look back over your God did that. God did that. God did that. God did that. And here we are standing at the edge of promise, right? And what are we waiting on? Because this can happen. We can be standing at the edge of destiny. Yes. And still hesitate. And here's the tension I felt as I prayed. The tension I felt for us as a church. You can be close to the promise and still far from surrender. Close to freedom but far from surrender. Close to complete victory but far from surrender. The See, there is a tragedy of refusal. There is a tragedy attached to what you don't do next. There's a tragedy. It's connected because the crux of the chapter, the breaking point of destiny is found in verse 26- 28 of Deuteronomy. The Bible would say, "Notwithstanding, ye would not go up." That's right. You got a word from God. You know the direction to go and you got the promises. You got the promise to go on your side.
And the Bible says, "Notwithstanding, ye would not go up." But it doesn't stop there. But rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God. But don't stop reading there. And ye murmured in your tents. You got home and started murmuring and said, "Because the Lord hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us. Whether shall we go up?" Now, you got to catch this. Our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, "The people is greater and taller than we. The cities are great and walled up to heaven, and moreover, we have seen the sons of the Anakims there." They just didn't hesitate, church. They refused. They just didn't struggle, they rebelled. And notice where rebellion started. You murmured in your tents. It didn't start in public. It started in private. I'm going to just tell you right now, we better be careful what we talk about in our tents. We better be careful what we let go on inside of our homes when we start murmuring and complaining. when we don't understand what God's doing. When we don't understand how God's working because you're not going to only affect you, you're going to affect those inside your home. That's right. We we just I'm telling you in the Holy Ghost, it didn't start in the public. It didn't start in the church, sir. It didn't start at the tabernacle. It started in private. Before there was outward disobedience, there was inward resistance. When I read this, when I read this this afternoon, the Holy Ghost dealt with me on this surrendered life. A surrendered life is not just about what you do publicly. It's about what you say privately when God speaks and when God doesn't speak because sometimes God's silent. And it's in the silence of God that we murmur and we complain. Or it's when God's plan doesn't meet our expectations. It's when God's ways are not our ways.
It's when God's doing he's bringing you and you thought it was going to happen this way and God said, "No, it's going to happen this way." This making sense to anybody tonight. But let me tell you, they questioned God's plan. They questioned God's goodness. They even questioned God's intention. They even said, "Because the Lord hated us." Now, that don't even make sense to me. If God hated you, he'd have left you with Pharaoh. If he hated you, you would have never walked across on dry ground. If he hated you, he would have left you a slave under the taskmaster of Pharaoh. Let me just pause right here and tell you, it may be rough right now, but God does not hate you. Let me take you back to who you used to be. Let me take you back to the old version of you. And I can promise you, AS BAD AS IT IS RIGHT NOW, IT'S STILL BETTER THAN YOUR DAYS BACK IN THE WORLD. IT'S BETTER THAN WHO YOU USED TO BE. STRUNG OUT ON DRUGS, STRUNG OUT ON PILLS, IN JAIL, FACING PRISON. I WISH I HAD A FACING ALL MANNER OF SITU. IT'S A LOT BETTER NOW THAN WHAT IT YOU I MAY NOT BE WHERE I WANT TO BEH BUT I'M RIGHT WHERE I NEED TO BE. HALLELUJAH. I'VE GOT TO GET HAPPY ABOUT WHO HE IS AND WHAT HE'S DOING AND THE WORDS THAT ARE STILL YET TO COME over my life. Uh I've got promises that are still hanging over me. I got a promise this building is going to be full and overflowing. It ain't happened yet, but I get up every day say, "I don't know the day. I I don't know who God's going to bring in. I don't know who's going to be restored, but I refuse to look at God and say, "You hate me." That's what they did. That's right. I said, "That's what they did." Can you imagine talking to the Almighty God or talking about the Almighty God? But here's what we do. If you love me, you wouldn't allow me to go through this. Come on now. Or look at all I've done for God. Look at all I've done for the kingdom and here I am struggling. We better be careful.
The same God that delivered them out of Egypt was the same God who parted the Red Sea, now they accuse him of hatred. And you want to know when surrender is absent, distortion takes over. We start saying things we never dreamed we'd say. I remember when when some of y'all came into this church, this was the best church you had ever been to. Oh, this best thing says pockets on t-shirts. But if we're not careful, if we're not careful, we let the lack of surrender distort us from what God's done and what he's even doing. That's right. Amen. We let it get distorted. And you know how distortion comes into your spirit? You know how distortion starts playing with your emotions? Well, I'm not one. I preached it Sunday. Your presence matters. Amen. I said your presence matters. But when a spirit is distorted, it's almost without fail. This is happening. Verse 28. Whether shall we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our heart. Let me tell you where distorted where where distortion takes over, if you will, is listening to the wrong voices. Not enemies, but brethren. That's right. I know we don't like to talk about this, but we better be better be careful hanging around negative brethren and negative sister. That's right. voice. Let me just tell you, voices that sounded familiar. Voices that went to the congregation together, but they got a little dissatisfied. Voices that didn't understand what and one began to play on another, and one began to play on another. Voices that felt safe, but voices that were rooted in fear. They would say things, "The people are greater. The cities are walled up. Yeah, we even saw giants. Hear me in the Holy Ghost study. This is just a Bible study, but this is a word for our church. Fear will always magnify the obstacle. That's right. And minimize our God. It always magnifies the It always magnifies obstacles. But I've come to challenge you. Who is shaping your perspective?
Because the wrong voice can cost you the right future better be careful who you listen to because a surrendered life filters every voice through the word of God. Not through emotion, not through fear, not through popular opinion. But what they were doing, they were filtering the voice from the man of God who spoke the word of God. They were filtering that through the voices of their brethren. They got they got familiar with the brethren and they lost respect for their pastor. Moses was their pastor. Moses was the the stuttering mouthpiece that God would use. We better as a church be careful that the voice that comes ac and I say this not with any ambition but when the voice of this pullpit the shepherd that the mantle of shepherdness that God's put on me that my voice as God would speak that we not minimize it because here's where I we will filter my voice and you will filter the voice uh of God that comes through me as the shepherd of this through other voices. And what happens? You you disconnect and you disconnect and you disconnect further. And we start believing the voices that are misaligned with the word of God, the promises of God, the direction of God. And the root of the issue is fear, mistrust, and rebellion. Israel's problem wasn't just disobedience. It was deeper. It was fear. They were afraid of what might happen. It was mistrust. They doubted God's goodness. It was rebellion. They resisted God's authority. Surrender is not just about giving something up. It's about trusting someone completely. It's about trusting someone completely. They didn't trust his plan. They didn't trust his timing. They didn't trust his protection. They didn't trust his purpose. And because they didn't surrendered, they delayed destiny. I've been pastoring here 17 years, almost 17 years in November.
And as I begin to process this the fear, mistrust and rebel rebellion, I have pastored and and and we have a plethora of people that are here that have come from different churches, different backgrounds, uh different situations. We could we could talk about our church hurt. We could talk about spiritual abuse. We can talk about this. We we we we could we could. But here's what I'm begging you in the Holy Ghost because we're right at the edge of destiny of our church. We're at the edge of destiny. But here's what this will be a trap for you if you're not careful. Is where God's leading us and where God's taking us. If you don't buy into this thing, the church will leave you. the church will leave you. You'll look back and say, "What's happening?" You got to grow with the church. But if everything that's being said and the direction that's being cast and the vision and the spirit is moving, this isn't a one-man show. This is a team appro God is raising up leaders in our church. God is restoring men and women into this body. And if we're not careful, we look at things and we automatically look with old lens and we let mistrust come back. Well, I wonder if they're going to and I wonder. You even look as look at me sometimes as pastor and you think about an old leader or an old pastor and and the l you you get vision distorted and and maybe I say something and it's a trigger innocently not intentional it's just but it goes back to a root of I'm fearful to to let that wall down to trust I' I've had so much mistrust and and and whether we want to accept it or not rebellion slips in right because I resist authority. I've trusted before and that got I I got it got abused. I I trusted and this happened. God help us that we let the walls down and that we can trust a direction that God is thrusting us in. It will take a surrender. AS LONG AS WE remain in control, we will never step into the destinies that God has planned.
THE PROMISES, THE PLANS, THE TIMING, PROTECTION, AND PURPOSE UH IS IN his hands. I don't want to stand at the edge and look in and see my brothers and sisters going in to promise and I die in a wilderness that was never designed to be my graveyard. That's right. Because I'm going to tell you, there's a group going in with or without us. That's right. That's right. I said there's a If God's ever made a promise to us, that promise will be fulfilled with or without me, with or without you. But there is a cost of an uncurrentered life. Verse 35 said, "Surely there shall not one of these men," what's those? Those that murmured in their tents. Yeah. Those that never would let go of their fear and mistrust. And they never stepped foot into destiny. Let me magnify this. A whole generation missed it. Not because God changed his mind, but because they refused to align with his purpose, with his way, with his plan, with his timing, with his protection, with his purpose. They refuse to align with it. So what are you saying about I would say undo every husband, every wife, every family group. It's time to align with the purpose of God and the plan of God. We've got to let this settle in our spirit on a Wednesday night. I will always stay longer in a season of struggle when we choose not to surrender. Your marriage struggling, where's your level of surrender? You're you're walking and living for God. Where's your level of surrender? Because cycles repeat when surrender is resisted. You got to lay it at the foot of the cross and say, "My cycle going through this is over. I refuse to have to circle this 11 day journey, brother Noah. 11 days took 40 years to get them to Kadesh Barnea. 11 day journey, brother Jones. They just kept going. 40 years. You hear me tonight? If it seems like the cycle of your life is repeating, could it be surrender is being resisted? Yeah. Same battles, same frustrations, same wilderness. Not because God's unfaithful, but because we're unwilling.
We're unwilling to change. We're unwilling to let our pride and we we're we're unwilling to say, "Okay, I'll do whatever it's got to do, God, to make it. I'll do whatever I got to do." A surrendered life says, "God, I trust you even when I don't understand it." That's a surrendered life. God, I will obey even when it's uncomfortable. I don't understand it, but I'm going to obey. You see, when you get hungry for God and you get hungry to live for God, it don't matter what the word ask of you. And it's not does not matter. I as a pastor ask of you when you get hungry. The spirit's going to lead and guide obedience even when it's uncomfortable. This is what surrender looks like. God, I'll go up when you say go. Because here's the truth. Th this hit me like a a a major revelation. Obedience is my responsibility. The outcome is God's responsibility. Come on. If you just obey, you leave the outcome to God. Lord, I'm obeying your word. I'm obeying the man of God. I'm being faithful. I'm embracing faithfulness and surrendering unto you, God. I want to be guilty of obeying. And if the outcome's not what you want right now, keep being obedient. You may give you an example. Let me let's go to Abraham. When God called Abraham to offer Isaac, it made no sense. You mean to tell me, God, I waited 25 years for this promise to be fulfilled, right? 25 years I waited and now you're ready for me to go sacrifice my only the the the son of promise. It contradicted logic. It contradicted emotion. It even contradicted the promise itself. But Abraham surrendered. He trusted God beyond understanding. I don't understand it, but I surrender. He trusted beyond. And because he obeyed out of surrender, up the mountain he would go with his son. Up the mountain he would go alone. Up the mountain he would tell the servants, "We're going yonder to worship. We'll be back." Not knowing if he would come back alone or if he would come back with his son Isaac.
But what he came to realize that one act of obedience uh would reveal the hand and the provision of God where he would be where HE WOULD BE PROVIDED A ram that was in the thicket where he would be reaffirmed the promise that had already been given unto HIM. UH HE WOULD THEN BE BECAUSE OF ONE ACT OF obedience a released abundant blessing. Uh one act of surrender unlocked generational blessings. Hear me church. Hear me. One act of your surrender, one act into a surrendered life can unlock generational blessings. It can unlock blessings into your children. It can unlock generational blessings into your family. This blessing does not have to stop with you. You may be first generational, but you don't have to be the last generation. It can go down to your children. It can go down. you know how to reverse some of this stuff this go we talk about generational curses and yes that there are realities in that where one a father was one way and the son is another and there is but I would challenge us in the Holy Ghost that there could be a reversal of generational curses uh in the generational blessings uh by doing one thing and that's surrender our lives unto the Lord surrender our mouths unto the Lord our conversations unto the Lord. LET OUR LET INSIDE THE TENTS UH THAT WE START AFFIRMING what God's saying. AFFIRMING THIS IS THE BEST. OH, I can't wait to get to church. I can't wait to sing and worship. I can't wait to serve in the kingdom of God. What would happen if we started talking positively about the kingdom of God? What in the world's happened to him? What's happened to her? Last few weeks they was well they WERE TALKING ABOUT QUITTING CHURCH AND now they're excited. I'm talking about a surrendered life. We start looking at glasses half full, not half empty. We start looking at our brothers with love and respect, not offense. Everybody's not out to get us. Everybody's not our enemy. Everybody's not against me.
I've got to let my I've got the lens of my spirit to get REPROGRAMMED AND REPOSITIONED AND NOT distorted where we're going. Israel stood at the edge of promise and said we'll not go up. I come against the spirit that says we can't. We will go up. We will go up. I'm going up. The question today is, what has God told you to step into that you're hesitating to obey? I'm so glad to see the ministry and I'm seeing people I I I'm seeing couples and I'm seeing children get excited again about God. But what's God calling you to step into that we're hesitating to obey? Is it a calling? Is it a step of faith? Here here's where I feel like some of you right now because we have become so programmed, we're so self-sufficient that we're scared to lose control. If you live a surrendered life, you release control unto him. What are you hesitating to obey? A deeper level of trust. I don't know if I'll ever trust a pastor again. I know. I heard it in the Holy Ghost this time. Some of you have spoken those words. I'll never let that guard down again. You'll stand at the edge of promise. You'll stand at the edge of promise while the church goes by. A surrendered life must have trust. A surrendered life must lose control. A surrendered life will take a step of faith. Don't let fear speak louder than your faith. Don't let comfort override your calling. Don't let hesitation rob you of your destiny. Hesitation. You know where hesitation, and I've already said it, I'm not going to rehearse this. Hesitation comes into play when we start questioning. I don't know if I'm good enough. What if I fail? What if I get involved and what if I and the enemy what he's just sitting back? Uhhuh. I'm winning the war here. I'm winning here. They they more worried about what they might do than worried about are or stepping in faith of what they will do for him. What would you do tonight if you knew you would not fail? What would you do? Start a business. Get in ministry. Teach a Bible study.
Get on a serve team here at the church. Get start serving somewhere in the church. If you knew you wouldn't fail, sign up to be a coffee barista in the coffee shop. I'm just telling you. Be a door greeter. Be in First Impressions. Get involved in Sunday school. Get involved in outreach. take up a van route, get a set of key, say, "I feel led to go to this this area of town and we're going to pick up we're going to pick up some folks for church." What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail? Because that's what hesitation does. What if I start and I don't finish? What if you start and you unlock a revival in your home, in your individual life? What if it's what you've been needing? What if it's what GOD'S BEEN SAY? GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND STEP INTO DESTINY. He did not bring you out of the wilder. He did not bring you out of Egypt to die in the wilderness. He did not. He is not He's not called you to come and sit on a pew and not put your hands in the harvest. Put your hand ask yourself whose hands who's who can be attached to me that they're here because of me. Who's sitting on the pew tonight because of what I've invested? I sat in a funeral Saturday. I sat at a funeral, Brother Jim Hampton, and I had multiple. I talked to one I talked to your dad, brother, brother Garrett. I talked to brother Weisner and I was talking to him, bragging on you and we started talking about brother, we was talking about brother uh Hampton and I just the stories just started coming out. He was my father in the gospel. He taught me home Bible studies. He spent time with me. He he created community for me and my family. And I'm like, I had no idea. I had no idea that this man played such an And then I would hear another one. man, he's critical for me being in church. His hands were all over me. He took time. He taught Bible studies. He was And I'm like, I lived this close to such a prince of a man. And I didn't even get to really know him that well.
But I left that funeral with something put inside of me that said, who's going to fill them shoes? That's why every text message you send matters. Every phone call you make matters. every handshake you you don't know who you're going to impact but hesitation will put blinders on you and you come in and sit in the same seats every Sunday and you leave and and what are we doing I'm tell it's a call to a surrender surrender of my time just a few extra minutes hey it's good to see you today so glad you're here anything you need anything I have just a little text message, just a little phone call, just a little Facebook me. You do not don't underestimate it. You cannot fathom the impact it could make on somebody's life. God is not trying to take something from you. He is trying to lead you into something. He's trying to lead you into something. He's trying when I pull Brother Dallas, I think my numbers are right. If I pull up services on the on the app, the last time you inputed information, was it 375? 375 people that call this home, that come through here. 375 people. Now, they're not here tonight. They're not here tonight. But can one man touch all 375? I can't. That's why I need some surrendered lives in section five. I need some surrendered lives in section four, section three, section two, section one. When somebody's not there. Oh, where where's brother so and so? Where's sister so and so? Where are they? [panting] Boy, I missed you tonight. A surrendered life recognizes the body of Christ. The body, you're not too old and you're not too young to live a surrendered life. Because if we're not careful, you know what keeps surrendered lives from being surrendered? They want it to be about them. You ever been around people if one gets sick, the other wants to they got to get sicker than the other one because they need more attention. I know none of y'all. No, no, no, no. Let me flip this around. We get new people in the church and the pastor's shaking their hand.
Well, the pastor didn't even get to me. No, I'm I'm trying to get to the 10 first time guests that got here. and we go home and murmur in our tents. Lord, I better end this good. I done messed up a good Bible study. But it's the truth anyway. A surrendered life says it's not about me. It's not about me. It's about everybody in this room. It's about the body. I don't have to have the attent. You don't have to have the When we get the attention off us, we get more surrendered and we start worrying about this one, that one. I'm gonna want as feeble as I may be, as weak as I I'm going to try to touch this one and I'm gonna touch this. Get here early. Get here early. Well, I feel like I'm disconnected. What time do you get to church? Well, [panting] it's hard to connect if we get here early and we leave early. Lord have mercy. I done messed up a message, but maybe you'll go back and listen to this. And the love that I'm feeling tonight in my heart, God wants to connect this body like it's never been connected. But the only way it can connect is through full surrender. You can't connect. A husband and wife cannot be surrendered to one another when it's disconnected. She's trying to go her way. I'm trying to go my way. No. For a marriage to work is the surrender of the wills. The two's got to become one. Same way living for God. The only way we're going to be one in him is to be surrened my way. I want it. When you're surrendered, it doesn't have to be my way. It has to be his way. You know, there's some things I do for her, not because I want to do them, because I know she likes it done that way. I don't care where the trash can's pulled to. I like pulling it by the garage. It's easier for me to get it to the road, but she likes it behind the house. You know where the can is today? Behind the house. She likes towels folded a certain way. And I'm of the opinion, just be glad I folded them. But I surrender my will too. And you know what?
When I found out a long time ago, when she's happy, I'm happy. Do I got any good men in this house? WHEN MY WILL GETS AND I get I look at her c when she I seen her this morning and I said, "Oh, you sure are beautiful." She gave me that stink eye like, "What are you talking?" I just got up. No, you still you beautiful, baby. Bad breath and all. You know why? I surrendered my heart to her. She's got every She's got it. Not when she's sitting on the front row dressed up, hair done, teeth. No, I'm surrendered. I'm sorry. Y'all please catch what I'm saying tonight. Don't just want God to be in your life. Let him be Lord over your life. A surrendered life will always step forward when God says, "Go up and possess the land. Just go up and possess. I'm going to fight for you. I'm going I'm going to give it to you. You just got to show up. If you'll get to church every time the doors are open, it would be amazing how much of a surrendered life would start to evolve in your life because you're going to hear a word. You're going to feel the fellowship. You're going to feel the connection. You're going to feel this is where I belong. I told a I told a group in a meeting on Sunday Sunday evening. I told a group Sunday evening and God touched me. I believe it was brother Josh Young Bloodood uh in in Texas. He's a church planter planting a church. And he was talking about assimilating new people into the church. And he said some words that I'll never forget. He said, "People need to belong while they're becoming." Now, let that sink in. People need to belong while they're becoming. They may not have all the eyes dotted and the teeth but when they come in they need to feel our love. They need to feel our connect. They need to belong while they are becoming. But here's the tragedy. If they see uncurrendered people in the pew that are supposed to be surrendered, they're going towards surrender and we're going away from surrender. Yes, we're going they're hungry. They're growing.
They're thriving. They're they're they're growing in their relationship with God, but we're trying. We're going away from our relation. We're we're we're slacking up. We're God, help us to get a hold of the balance of living for God. And when he says go up, let's go up. When he says you can, we can. Let's belong while we're becoming. Stand to your feet. I'm over time. I think we ought to just lift our hands right now. I do. I think we ought to lift our There is a surrender in the house of God. If you feel the call and you feel I I just Come on. Come to the front. We got We're only here. We've just been here an hour and two minutes. There is a surrender in the house tonight. There is men, there is women, there is young people, there is children that God is equipping and God is positioning and God is oh, he is trying to navigate us through. And he's trying to position us and say, "OH, WE CAN GO UP. We can possess. Yes, there's giants in the land. Yes, there's giant. YES, THE CITIES ARE WALLED. BUT YOU'VE GOT A PROMISE. YOU GOT A WORD. YOU'VE GOT THE PLAN. YOU GOT A MAN of God LEADING YOU. YOU GOT A YOU YOU'VE ALREADY GOT A NEXT generational leader already in place that's going to take you. There are leaders already in this church that are going to take this church further than we have. Those singers right here. I know Sister Madison's not here. Sister Andrea, you're here. There are singers up here that are going to take this further than me. And us. There's musicians that are play. They're going to take this thing further than us. I'm not worried one iota about the future generation cuz I got Bible to believe it. The next generation's going in. But I don't WANT TO MISS, BROTHER PAUL. I DO NOT WANT TO MISS GOING WITH them because of unbelief because of fear and mistrust and even rebellion. I don't want to miss it. I want to go with my babies. I want to go with my children into the promises of God. I WANT TO GO TO JERICHO AND WATCH THE WALL.
DO YOU REALIZE THERE'S A GENERATION THAT DIDN'T WATCH THE WALLS FALL? RIGHT? THERE'S A GENERATION THAT DID NOT GO and but there was one that did. We can be part of it. The decision is ours. That's right. The decision's ours. A surrendered life decides who goes and who dies. a surrendered life. Lord God, I thank you. I looked at this screen and Sister Mallerie did a phenomenal job creating. I can imagine Moses standing on top of Nebo seeing in the far distance. Oh, oh, I wish I could go with him into that land. I believe. What if that hill would be the heel? What if that I'll die here? But there'll be there's a generation that
