Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The voice behind you: Isaiah 30:21
- He thanks the choir, praise team, and production crew, and says he believes the Lord spoke a word into the house that morning and is about to speak again tonight.
- He stands dependent on God for what he is to deliver and announces his text from Isaiah 30:21: "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."
- His subject is "The Voice Behind You": when you cannot see the way forward, pause and hear the voice of God behind you, directing your steps.
- He opens in prayer, confessing that he cannot navigate what God has put in him to deliver without God's help.
- We become consumed with what is ahead of us — tomorrow, next week, the holidays — anxiously asking where God is taking us; but you do not need a map or to see everything, only to be dialed in and tuned in to that still small voice.
Scriptures: Isaiah 30:21
Looking the wrong way: Judah runs to Egypt
- Isaiah 30 is a word of correction to Judah: facing a real threat from Assyria, God's people went looking to Egypt for help, making alliances and strategies instead of trusting God.
- Verse 1: "Woe to the rebellious children, that take counsel, but not of me" — they had a plan and heard words, but not a word from God; verse 2: they had not asked at his mouth.
- Movement does not necessarily mean direction: like Jonah, who arose and got in a boat but went the wrong way, we can be busy and still be outside the will of God.
- God was never upset that they wanted help; he was upset that they sought help without seeking him — asking God to bless what they had already decided rather than asking what he wanted them to do.
- Often we don't really want direction; we want confirmation and affirmation of the road we have already chosen — but we cannot live and function without his voice leading and guiding us.
A God who waits to be gracious
- Isaiah 30 is not simply a message of judgment but of mercy: verse 18 says the Lord will wait, that he may be gracious — even in their disobedience, God said, "I loved you so much, I'm going to sit here and wait on you."
- God did not write Judah off or withdraw his grace; your mistakes don't cancel mercy, your wrong turns don't exhaust his grace, and your failure doesn't mean God has stopped speaking.
- Verse 20: though the Lord gave them the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, he still sustained them — and their teachers would no longer be removed into a corner, but their eyes would see their teachers.
- People are watching us — the mentorship we invest, our social media, the way we conduct ourselves and come to the house of God — even when they are not in the building or in covenant relationship with us.
- Then comes the word behind thee: the voice comes from a direction you are not currently going, because God is trying to turn you around and bring you back to what you have been missing.
Walk: God gives the next step, not the whole map
- God doesn't always give you the entire picture; sometimes he just gives you the next instruction: Walk. You don't understand everything — walk; you don't know what's around the corner — just keep walking.
- The next step might be repentance, turning to the voice, going to the waters of baptism and taking on the name of Jesus, or receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost; five- and ten-year plans are good, but tonight is about taking the next step.
- We trust GPS turn by turn — veer in 5.6 miles, left in 3.2 — without seeing the whole route; what would happen if we took God's voice that seriously, walking when he says walk and stopping when he says stop?
- He tells Brother Paul's story: driving down Highway 36, Paul heard God tell him to knock on Mr. Prince's door and ask him to sell the church this land; walking on a word, back and forth, until the deal was made at the price the Lord had spoken.
- When the building needed finishing money, the bank that first refused ended up lending it — and at the note burning realized it had not even charged interest; banks don't just make those kinds of mistakes.
- Don't let what's ahead of you make you miss the voice that's behind you.
Tune out the loud voices — and know his voice
- The future is loud, culture is loud, fear and doubt have voices, and the critics can get loud — but God says you have to tune out the noises and listen to his voice.
- There will be moments when you cannot see the answer and question what God is doing — why the pain, why the rejection — but as long as you can hear his voice, it pierces the loudness and the darkness: "This is the way."
- It is not a way; it is the way — Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life," and Egypt's voice can never substitute for the voice of our Savior.
- How do you know it's God's voice? The voice of God will never contradict the word of God: if a voice tells you to compromise the word, abandon truth, or quit serving, that is not God.
- Not every open door is God's voice — some doors open to test you; not every feeling, opportunity, or piece of advice is from God.
- His Spirit and his word agree, and God is not the author of confusion — but he can step in and speak the word that escorts you out of a confused state of mind.
"Walk ye in it": the word requires a response
- God did not only say "this is the way" — he added, "Walk ye in it." Whenever God gives a word, there must be an agreement of faith, and it requires a response.
- God can show you the way, but you have to walk in it; God can speak, but you have to obey; God can convict and reveal Scripture, but you have to surrender, crucify the flesh, and move.
- Some things God has already told us to do, and we are waiting for him to say it again — "let me fleece God" — but if God ever spoke it once, it is settled.
- Walk by faith, not by sight: as the voice speaks — forgive, pray, witness, live holy, stay faithful, serve in his kingdom — you just have to keep walking and keep being obedient.
- Love people anyway, no matter what they have done or said; none of us can compare with what Jesus went through, yet on the cross he still said, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do."
- Teach your children, stay in church, don't give up: you may not see God tonight, but you can still hear God if you choose to.
Blocked ears: when the cares of life stop up your hearing
- He tells of going to a clinic at North American Youth Congress convinced he needed hearing aids, and learning that his ear canal was completely stopped up with years of wax buildup — though he cleaned his ears, he had apparently been pushing it further in.
- A specialist with a light could see what he could not see and remove what he could not reach, and he could tell a difference in his hearing immediately.
- Spiritually, we let the cares of this life pack in like wax until we wonder why we cannot hear the voice behind us; our eyes are blinded and our hearing dulled without our realizing how far we've gone.
- You are one trip to an altar — one place of prayer where the light of God's truth does its surgery — away from hearing at the best of your ability; when you get desperate, the time and the money stop mattering.
- God speaks through his word, through preaching, through conviction, through prayer, through godly counsel, and through storms and circumstances.
Come back: the voice behind you is calling you home
- The whole reason the voice was behind them was that they were headstrong in the wrong direction; sometimes the voice behind you is not God sending you somewhere new — it is God simply calling you back.
- Come back to the secret place, back to the altar of prayer, back to service, back to the consecrated life, back to your first love, back to where you heard his voice clearly every day.
- Being lost on a road at night without a light is a helpless feeling — you can't see the cliff one more step ahead — but are you willing to keep walking toward the voice that is calling you back, calling you in, calling you close?
- You don't have to see or know everything to hear him; stop panicking about what's ahead and stop trying to predict the future — "He knoweth the way that I take," and, as Job said, when he has tried me, I shall come forth as pure gold.
- He calls the house to stand and come to the altar: seek the Lord — you don't have to go to Egypt to get your answers or to the world to find fulfillment; you can find it through the voice of God leading you and the word guiding you.
- The service closes in altar singing: "I sought the Lord, and he heard, and he answered... I saw the Lord" — that's why I trust in God, my Savior, who will never fail.

Didn't this choir just they showed out tonight? Wow. Thank you praise team. Thank you choir. Thank you musicians. Thank you sound. Thank you media. Thank you production. Thank you for taking our services to the world. Thank you. If you missed this morning, I I encourage you to go back and watch or listen. It'll be on podcast, YouTube, Facebook. I don't say that lightly, but I do believe that the Lord spoke a word into this house. And as I as I labored over what he would deposit into me to give tonight, I stand here. I I stand here dependent upon him. When God speaks a word and when God casts you in a direction, it it's it's flesh getting out of the way and allowing God to speak in this house. What I will share with you tonight, I believe will be an altering word to help you navigate through the season of where you are. where you are. I believe that Isaiah chapter 30, I'll go to the Old Testament to to share and to launch into the deep of where God will take us. Isaiah 30 and 21. and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, "This is the way. Walk you in it when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left." I believe the Lord is going to speak with all of my heart, confident in that. I'm going to minister tonight from this subject. The voice behind you. The voice behind you. When I can't see the way forward, I believe the Lord is instructing us tonight if we could just take a pause and hear the voice of God behind you, directing your steps, directing your steps. So, if you'll help me tonight and you'll be attentive to what God will say, I believe it's going to happen. Father, I thank you for this hour. I thank you for this moment. I thank you for what you're going to speak, God. I I depend on you. I cannot navigate through what you have put in me to deliver without your help. I need you today. In Jesus name we pray. Everybody say amen. You may be seated. There are seasons in life when we, if we're not careful, we become consumed with what's in front of us. We are pondering and we're anxiously awaiting what's next, what's coming. We live our lives and if we're not careful, the only things that we are that we are so consumed with is what we're doing tomorrow. What's going to happen next week and we're planning, okay, this is going to happen at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Oh, and New Year's is coming. And it it's those things and we're we're pondering how is this going to work out? How are we going to make it? We even say words like, "Where is God taking me? What does tomorrow hold?" And and because we're so focused on what's ahead of us sometimes that we feel uh we we feel and we fail to recognize that God is speaking to us from behind us. I know it's it's not something maybe that you have thought about, but when I begin to study this and begin to to delve into the word of the Lord, Isaiah gives an unusual picture. I must say he doesn't say you will hear a voice in front of you saying go this way. He is saying, "Thine ears shall hear a word behind you or behind thee." I pondered that. I I I wrestled with that. But I don't know the way forward. Why would I be listening to what's behind me? And God, I don't understand where you're going or what you're doing. God, I don't have the entire plan for my life. But but if you can hear what the Lord would have you to hear tonight, you don't have to see everything. You just got to hear that still small voice that's guiding you and directing you. Uh somebody needs to hear me in this service tonight. You don't need to YOU DON'T NEED A MAP to hear his voice. You don't have to know everything that God know. Why do we want to be like that? Why do we It's something in our human nature. We want to understand everything God's doing before God does it. We want to know what's happening tomorrow before tomorrow ever gets here. But you don't have to see around every corner. You just need TO BE DO DIALED in and tuned in to the voice of God. I've come to preach this I've come to preach to this great church tonight that I'm hungry to hear his voice. Uh but my fear today and what has happened to the children what happened to the children of Israel? God's people had been looking the wrong way. Right. They've been looking the wrong way. We're no different. We find ourselves in the entrapments of life and and we find ourselves doing exactly what God's people did in Isaiah 30. Isaiah 30 was nothing more than a word of correction to Judah. They were facing danger. Assyria was a real threat. And instead of trusting God, Judah went looking. Y'all ready? They went looking to Egypt for help. Oh, help me right now. They started making alliances. They started developing strategies uh with Egypt. And they they were trying to solve their own problems through their own human strength. And Isaiah said in verse number one, "Woe to the rebellious children that take counsel but not of me." They had a plan. They heard words, but not a word from God. They They took counsel, but it wasn't God's counsel. Oh, they got to moving, but they were moving in the wrong direction. Uh, you got to understand uh that it isn't that where we are sometimes we find ourselves. Uh, but we can be we can get busy and we can be outside of the will of God. We can have a plan and never ask God about it. Oh, they were they were busy. They were in a direction, but they were listening to the wrong voices. We can have resources, but we can lack direction. We can lack fulfillment. We can have opportunities and still not have God's approval. Come on, somebody help me tonight. Movement does not necessarily mean direction. You can be going you can be going somewhere and still be going the wrong way. I know I said that this morning when I preached on Jonah. He did arise. He did get in a boat. He just went the wrong way. I I I don't want to be like Jonah. I don't want to be like the children uh uh uh that I'm preaching about the children of Israel. I don't want to be guilty of looking but my help be coming from Egypt or the world. See, you you never find Egypt painted painted in a good light. It was it was always a type and a shadow of the flesh and the world that that walked down into Egypt. Verse number two said, "And have not asked at my mouth." Now, I want you to notice that. Have not asked at my mouth. And here, let me just, and I know I say these words often. Let me take a little pressure off of you. God's never upset because they wanted help. Right? God got upset because they sought help without seeking him. They had already decided where they were going. Yeah. They weren't asking God, "What do you want me to do?" They were asking, "God, bless what I've already decided to do." There is a difference. Sometimes we really don't want direction. We just want confirmation and affirmation. We don't want God to step into our lives AND TELL US, "DON'T GO THAT WAY. DON'T DO THAT. DON'T DON'T LISTEN TO THAT. DON'T WATCH THAT." We want him to approve the road we've already chose to walk on. But God told the children of Israel that you need my voice. You're not that good to operate and to live and function without my voice leading and guiding you. And see, this is where sometimes I feel like as the children of God, as the church of the living God, that we miss this. God has always been interested in directing his people. Always. Yes. Isaiah 30 isn't simply a message of judgment. It's really a message of mercy. Go read it for yourself. Look at verse number 18. Therefore, will the Lord wait that he may be gracious unto you. Now, I read that this afternoon and I got happy. that God in disobedience, God in our rebellion said, "I loved you so much. I'm going to sit here and wait on you." Y'all, y'all all right tonight? God was willing to wait on them. And I believe it's no different right now. Judah had messed up. They had made the wrong decisions. They had trusted Egypt's wisdom. They had turned from the counsel OF GOD. BUT GOD DIDN'T SAY, "I'M finished with you." He didn't write them off and say, "You know what? Uh, you know what? I have no more mercy for you. You've gone past my grace and you've gone past my mercy." No. This is what he said. I'm waiting to be gracious to you. I don't know who I'm preaching to tonight, but I've got a word for somebody. THAT'S THE GOD I SERVE. That's the God I'm preaching about. YOU CAN'T. YOU HADN'T GONE OUTSIDE THE GRIP OF GRACE. Uh if you COULD SEE HIM TONIGHT, I BELIEVE HE'S STANDING AND SAYING, "I'M JUST WAITING ON THEM TO COME TO THEMSELVES AND TO BE partakers of the grace that's waiting on them." Aren't you glad your mistakes don't cancel mercy? Your wrong turns don't cause him to withdraw his grace. That's right. Your failure doesn't mean that God has stopped speaking. Matter of fact, verse 20 said, "And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and give you the water of affliction, some of us in this room better thank God." Amen. That in our rebellion and in our sin and in our un all the things we've been through in life that God still sustained us with the bread of adversity. Amen. He gave us the water of affliction. Why? God says there's going to be a season where life isn't easy. There's going to be adversity. There's going to be affliction. But then he says, "Yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner anymore, BUT THINE EYES SHALL see thy teachers." Oh, that's what's happening right now in our church. There are some people that are watching. There are some people that are being attentive. They're watching. They're being alert. They're watching that they may not be living right right now, but somebody's watching you. Somebody's watching the mentorship that you put upon them and you invested into them. They may not be in the building. They may not be in covenant relationship with you. And you may not talk to them every day, but I'm telling you in the Holy Ghost, uh, some of them are watching your social media profiles. Some of them are watching the way you conduct yourselves, uh, the way you come to the house of God. Uh, their teachers could not be removed in the corner anymore. THEIR EYES SAW THEIR TEACHERS, RIGHT? And then and thine ears shall hear a word from behind thee. What What's that mean, pastor? Here's what I feel tonight. God's getting ready to teach us how to hear his voice again. All right. Been a long time, but God's listening to show you and God's listening to keen your sensitivity to hear his voice. And I'm going to say it again. Why behind? Because the voice is coming from that. The voice is coming from a direction that you are not currently going. That's the picture I got to get you to to see. The voice behind you is the one trying to draw you. the one you're looking you're so busy looking ahead. The voice behind you is trying to get you to turn AROUND AND SAY, "THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN MISSING. THAT'S WHAT THAT'S THE VOICE I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR. I'VE GOT TO GET YOU TURNED AROUND. I'VE GOT TO BRING YOU BACK. I'VE GOT TO PUT YOU IN POSITION. We're so trying to figure out the road ahead. WE'RE SO BUSY. What's next, God? What's next for my business? What's next for my family? What's next for my children? What's next here and what's next there? And the voice of God is trying to speak to you. Turn around. You're so busy out here. The voice makes all the difference. The voice know is not something they could naturally see. No, the voice is not something they could necessarily explain, but it is something they can hear. This is the way. Walk you in it. Here, I believe I've got some witnesses in this room. God doesn't always give you the entire picture. That's right. I'm telling you, if I I sat in my chair this afternoon and here here's what I saw. He may not give you the entire picture, but sometimes he just gives you the next instruction. You know what that instruction is? Walk. You don't understand everything. Walk. You don't have it all figured out, just keep walking. You don't know what's around the corner, just keep walking. Sometimes God speaks from behind you because we're looking so far ahead. Uh you're worried about next month, but God is saying today, quit worrying about tomorrow. WHAT ABOUT YOUR OBEDIENCE TODAY? Could that be why it's written, "Today is the day of salvation." Yeah. Why don't we want to know the entire journey? Why don't we want to know every crook and every turn? Just take the next step. Maybe the next step for you is repentance. Maybe it's turning to the voice. Maybe the next step is obedience to the voice and going to the waters of baptism and taking on the name of Jesus. Maybe the next step for you is receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. What is that next step? those that have been in premarital counseling that that my wife and I do. We got a lot of newlyweds sitting right over to my left. Uh you know, we discuss this from time to time. Goals. Set your goals. Set them. Set them high. Get your fiveyear plan. Get your 10year plan. But tonight, all I'm worried about is us taking the next step. I I know five year plans are good. 10 year plans are good. We want the whole blueprint. But God said, "Can you walk on a word that I SPEAK TO YOU FROM BEHIND YOU? CAN YOU TRUST MY VOICE UH WHEN YOU CANNOT SEE MY FACE? UH CAN YOU JUST TRUST ME? AND WHEN I'M SPEAKING, you give ATTENTION TO AND WHERE I LEAD, WILL YOU FOLLOW? WHEN I SPEAK, WILL YOU UNDERSTAND?" OH. Oh God, help me tonight. You know where faith comes into play in this whole equation? Faith doesn't always require you to see the destination. Why do we trust GPS? It's amazing. I can't even go to Huntsville without GPS. I can't leave the driveway hardly without GPS. All right, I'm coming for you. We got more faith in this than the voices coming behind us. Cuz we can see the phone. We can see the turns. We know in 5.6 miles we're going to veer over. And we know in 3.2 miles we're going to take A LEFT. BUT WHAT IN THE WORLD WOULD HAPPEN IF WE WOULD TAKE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THAT SERIOUS? GOD, I don't know what tomorrow holds, but if you tell me to walk, I'm just going to walk in obedience. If you tell me to stop, I'm going to stop in obedience. I don't know what's coming, BUT UNTIL I GET THERE, AS LONG AS THAT VOICE IS SPEAKING TO ME FROM BEHIND ME, WHEN I GET TO WHERE I'M GOING, turn left here, turn right here, get over here. I'm being led by the spirit. I still remember, brother Paul. I still remember you telling me the story knocking on Mr. Prince's door about the property that we're that we're standing on right now that God spoke to you driving down 36 and you went and knocked on Mr. Prince's door and you made the proposal. The Lord spoke to me and told me to tell you to sell us this land. Well, it ain't for sale. Well, that ain't up to me. That's between you and God. I'm just doing what I was told. I'm just walking on a word. Okay. It wasn't and I don't know the exact time frame. I need to get all these details, but it was just a little while Mr. Prince called him back over. Let's talk about that. Well, this is the price I'll sell it to. that ain't what the Lord told me the price was going to be. But I'm not selling it. Well, that's between you and the Lord. I'm walking on a word. AND THE CONVERSATION WOULD GO BACK AND FORTH UNTIL finally the deal was made. And the price was paid that the Lord had spoken FOR THE PROPERTY THAT WE NOW OWN. THOSE THINGS JUST DON'T HAPPEN. BUT WHEN A MAN GETS A WORD FROM GOD, A WORD FROM BEHIND HIM, IT MAY NOT MAKE SENSE TO THE LOGIC. IT MAY NOT MAKE SENSE TO THE NATURAL. AMEN. But when God starts speaking, and God starts instructing, well, we need a little money to finish the building. Well, we're not going to loan you no money. If you don't loan me the money, the Lord's gonna shut this bank down. Yeah, that's what that's what the bishop told him. Now, that takes a man of faith. I'm going just say it's faith. And that man agreed. He gave the money to finish the building. Am I telling it right, brother Paul? Right. And when they when they come to the note burning, as he's burning the note, he realizes, "Brother Jason, we didn't even charge you any interest for this money." NOW, BANKS JUST DON'T make those kind of mistakes. I'm I'm here to tell you, they don't JUST BUT WHEN GOD SPEAKS A WORD FROM BEHIND YOU, IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO THE LOGICAL MAN. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. Uh but when you WALK IN FAITH, UH LET ME JUST TELL YOU IN THE HOLY GHOST, UH DON'T LET WHAT'S AHEAD OF YOU MAKE YOU MISS THE VOICE THAT'S BEHIND YOU. I don't know how it's going to work out. What's that voice telling you? I don't know if this situation What's that voice telling you? We can get so overwhelmed by what's ahead, we can't hear what's God saying. That's right. Behind you. Because here's where we get captivated. Boy, the future's loud. Culture is loud. This woke agenda is loud. This culture is loud. Let me let me get on down here where we fear is loud. You don't think fear has a voice? Some of you right now, you're fearful. You're afraid. Doubt has a voice. It's loud. That's right. The critics can get loud. People can get loud. But God's saying, "You got to tune out the noises." Yes, sir. And listen to my voice. There will be moments in your life where you cannot see the answer, but you can hear his voice. There may be moments in your life where you don't know what's going to happen next. But as long as I'm hearing the voice, as long as I've got King Jesus, I don't need Come on, somebody. I don't NEED NOBODY ELSE. AS LONG AS I'VE GOT THE VOICE of God, I MAY BE BY MYSELF, BUT I GOT A VOICE BEHIND me that's leading and guiding me. Uh that's directing my path. There will be moments in your life where you question what God's doing. Why the pain? Why the suffering? Why? Why? Why the calamity of life? Why the rejection? Why the fear? There will be moments when the path may seem unclear, but you can hear his voice. And the voice has a way of piercing the loudness and piercing through the darkness. And you can hear those those words. This is the way. Walk you in it. This is not a way. This is the way. Jesus steps on the scene and he says, "I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life." Why do we need to look at other resources? And why do we feel like Egypt's voice can SUBSTITUTE THE VOICE OF OUR SAVIOR? No way. That way will not lead to everlasting life. But I can TELL YOU THE VOICE THAT'S BEHIND YOU IS STILL THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. Let me tell how do I know it's God's voice? Anybody ever thought that? I'm going to help you right now. Yes, sir. Cuz this where we got to be careful. Yes, sir. Every every peer is not going to tell you the right thing. That's right. Every brother ain't going to tell you the right thing. That's right. You got to be careful. Not every voice is God's voice. Not every feeling is God's feeling. Not every opportunity is a God opportunity. Well, what about that open door? Every open door is not God's voice. Sometimes them doors open to test you. Are you going to be sensitive to that? That's right. Not every person giving advice today is going to give you God's advice. So here here's where I'm gonna help you. The voice of God will never contradict the word of God. If the bo if the voice tells you to compromise the word of God, that's not God. That's not God. If that voice tells you to abandon truth, that ain't God. That's not God. If that voice, if that voice tells you to quit serving, did that same voice tell you to quit your job? When times got tough, when schedules got a little tight? Lord have mercy, Jesus. Why is it we when tough times get we want to disconnect from everything that God has offered us to serve in. But if our boss or our manager, Lord, I better get back on my notes tonight. Better better be careful what voices and emotions that we listen to. Sometimes God puts us in a place, why don't you just not pray as much today? That ain't the voice of God. Uh you don't really you don't have to come to prayer meeting. Just stay home and get some rest. Le let's pick up some extra hours. Let's embrace this lifestyle. God's voice will always lead you to the word of God. Amen. His spirit and his word agree. Can I tell you God's not the author of confusion. He's not the author of confusion. Well, this is so confusion. God's not in it. I'm confused. God's He's not the author of it, but he can step in and if you want him to. And he he can speak the word you need to escort you out of that confusion state of mind. And you can walk in the way that he's direct. Go here. Go there. Go here. Go there. I believe the words are more true today than ever. This is the way. Walk you in it. Notice that God did not say this is the way. He added, "Walk you in it." It's one thing for God to show you the way and then he instructs you, "Walk in it." Anytime God gives you a word, there must be an agreement of faith and it requires a response. Why would God be speaking? Why would the voice behind us be speaking and guiding in us to stay like we've always been? All right. God can show you the way. But you got to walk in it. God can speak, but I've got to obey. That's right. God can convict my heart and say, "You know what? I probably shouldn't do that. I probably shouldn't go there." But you got to be the one to surrender and say, "You know what? I'm going to crucify this old flesh." God can reveal scripture to you, but you got to move. That's right. There just some things that God has already told us to do and we're waiting on him to say it again. Can you just say, "Let me fleece God. Let Let me fleece God." Well, he's already told you, "Well, I need him to tell me again. Come on." And we live our lives wondering if God ever said it one time, it's settled. If God's ever spoke it in this word, it's settled. So, what am I to do? I'm to walk. I'm to walk by faith, not by sight. I'm walking by faith tonight. I'm walking from the word that's behind me, that's guiding me and leading me. And I'm going to tell you what that word's about to He's about to speak a word to you. And you may not like what the word is. Forgive. Pray. No, this is fast. Witness, live holy, stay faithful, SERVE IN MY KINGDOM. AND all the time he's speaking, you just got to keep walking. You just got to keep being obedient. Love people. Well, you don't know what they've done to me. Love them anyway. You don't know how bad they've talked to. Love them anyway. You you don't, pastor, you just don't know. They cut me. They cut me, too. I don't think none of us can compare to what they put Jesus through. But while he hung on, I know I said it this morning, but while he hung on the cross, he still said those words that's ringing in the spirit. FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO. THERE'S GOT TO BE SOMETHING. THERE'S A VOICE BEHIND YOU THAT'S CALLING YOU. WALK. Teach your babies. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN. STAY in church. Don't give up. You may not see God tonight, but you can still hear God if you choose to. That's right. I feel I know. I feel the burden of people in this room tonight. God's still speaking. But I'll never forget. Yes, I do have hearing aids. They're not in tonight. If I don't understand what you say, please forgive me. But I will tell you, I went to a clinic last year in North American Youth Congress. And I said, I think something's wrong with my ears. And I I know I do clean my ears. I'm getting very This is TMI. understand. I do clean my ears, but if you ain't never had this happen to you, you won't understand. And I went into this clinic. I said, "I know I need hearing aids. I know I'm tired of saying, "Huh? Huh?" She said, "Well, let me look at your ears." And when she looked in my ears, my ear canal was completely stopped up so that I couldn't it it was prohibiting my hearing due to wax buildup. Now, I I clean my ears. I know I do. I promise you I do. But I must not have been getting everything out in years and years and years. I'm going somewhere here. Years and years I was cleaning them, but I guess I don't know if I was pushing wax further and it just started building up and building up and building. And that lady began to take a device and go around the my ear canal. And I'm telling you, I'm going to gross some of y'all out. What eventually came out? Oh Lord, I don't know if I ought to tell you this. It looked like a mini roach come out of my ear. I It was It It was just bad. And I'm like, I've been living with this. I thought my ears was clean. I thought I I could tell a difference in my hearing. And I still had to get hearing aids, but I could tell a difference when I went to a specialist and they could look in there with that light and they could see what I could not see. They could do what I could not do with a rag. They could do what I couldn't, you know, I couldn't comprehend cuz I couldn't get a light in there. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, every once IN A WHILE, I KNOW YOU CAN'T I know you can't see what's happening. AND I KNOW OUR EYES SOMETIMES GET BLINDED TO the realness of our world and to the dimness of our eyes and even to the dullness of our hearing. But what if God tonight is taking the light of his word and and shining a light into your spiritual ears and he's saying, "You don't realize how far you've gone. You don't have you don't realize that the wax is blocking your ability to hear my voice. You've let cares of this life. You've let the things of this world come in and that WAX IS JUST PACKED AND PACKED AND PACKED. AND YOU WONDER WHY YOU CAN'T hear the voice behind you. Uh but I've come in the Holy Ghost to tell you you're one trip to an altar. You're one trip to a place of PRAYER AND THE LIGHT OF GOD'S TRUTH CAN COME in and begin to do surgery. You would be amazed at how well you can hear. With just some alone time with God. You know what I had to do? I had to spend money that I didn't really want to spend. I had to take time out that I really didn't want to. I was at youth congress. I I was I didn't want to go to the doctor. I didn't want to go get my ears checked. But I was desperate. When you get desperate, money won't matter. When you get desperate, time won't matter. You got to have help. And when you get to the place where help can come, you'll realize, "Oh, I can. That was worth it. That was worth the time, the energy. Now I'm hearing at the best of my ability." I believe God wants us serving him at the best of our abilities. I'll close with this. Here's where I here's where I feel to end. He speaks to you through his word. He speaks to you through the preaching. He speaks through conviction. He speaks to you through the presence of God, through prayer, through godly counsel. He speaks to you through storms and circumstances. And sometimes after we've gotten ourselves turned around, God speaks from behind us. Brother Jason, I believe this is where God said, "You got yourself in such a mess. You've got yourself, you done went down to Egypt and sought counsel. They done convinced you that they're that they got all the solutions. They got all the answers. They they they don't know my ways cuz they're far above their ways. They don't know my thoughts. They're so far above their thoughts. And the whole reason from my looking at this scripture, the whole reason the voice was behind they were so headstrong in the wrong direction. God said, "I'm going to speak from behind him, and just maybe, my voice will turn them around." Sometimes the voice that's behind you is God just simply calling you back. You thought the voice from behind you meant God was sending you somewhere new. No, he's saying, "Come back. Come back to that secret place. Come back to that altar of prayer. Come back to that place of service. Come back to that consecrated life. Come back to your first love. Come back to where you know you heard my voice clearly every day. Come back to let me put a burden back upon you that you can carry. Come back and let my fire be rekindled in you. come back to a place where you're trying to figure it out all by yourself. God's saying, "Quit trying to figure it out, but walk toward my voice. Walk toward my word." Is your life walking toward this or away from this? Is your life pointing toward this or is it pointing away from this? I saw it and I'm going to say it like I feel it. Some of you your lives right now, you felt like you're walking down the road at night. Unless you've ever been lost, there's probably not a more helpless feeling than being lost in the night without a light. There's probably not a more helpless feeling than not knowing the direction. You don't have a light. You don't have a phone. And you're just out there. Where do I turn and where do I go? You can't see far. You can't see your hand. You can't see what's ahead. You can't see the cliff that if you take one more step, you can't see the obstac you can't see the trees. It's just right there. But tonight, I know the darkness may intimidate you slightly. It may be dark, but are you willing to keep walking toward the voice that started behind you? Are you willing to keep walking? I don't know. I don't know how the road behind. I don't know every Don't know every turn. You may not know every turn, but will you trust the voice? Will you trust the one calling you back, calling you in, calling you close, calling you to a place of relationship? Please, please hear your pastor. Hear me tonight. I don't have to see everything to hear him. I don't have to know everything to hear his voice. Stop panicking about what's ahead. Stop thinking, "I've got to MAKE A DECISION. I'VE GOT TO DO." Could you just pause and say, "You know what? Tonight, I want to hear his voice." And as long as I can hear his voice, I will have confidence to walk toward it. Quit quit trying to figure out all these radical changes you know you're going to have to make. Quit worrying about it. Quit worrying about the things that you may have to quit doing. You may have to sacrifice. You may have quit worrying about all that. You've got to get so in tune with his voice. You quit trying to predict the future. He knoweth the way you take. That's right. He knoweth Job the way you take. Turn to the left. He ain't I turn to the right. He's nowhere. But I'm I'm going to stand on the word that Job gave to all of us. When I come forth, I shall be like pure gold. If you'll listen tonight and quit trying to figure out life and trying to predict life and trying to put the pieces of the puzzle back to you're trying to connect the dots and God said just walk toward my voice. Walk toward my word. He's going to guide you. He's going to lead you. He's going to let revelation flow from the pages of this holy script. Would you stand all over this house? Oh God, I just wonder if there's one or two or three or four or five. This altar tonight is for everybody. I I'm just going to join you. I I'm coming to the I'm coming to the altar because I want to hear his voice. I'm coming to stand before the I'm standing before his presence. I want to hear his voice. I want his word to lead and direct me. I want him to speak and reveal those hidden truths of his holy word. My savior one who will never fail. Oh God, he will never. I trust you. That word, the one who will never fail. He will never fail. I sought the Lord and he heard and he answered. I sought the Lord and he heard and he answered. I saw the Lord. Let the voice turn you around. Let that voice turn you around. That's why I trust him. Come running to the mercy of God. Lord, run to his mercy. That grace is awaiting you. He can forgive. He can restore any hurt. and he answers. That's why I trust him. That's why I trust him. I sought the Lord and he heard and he answered. I saw the Lord and he heard and he answered. I sought the Lord and he heard and he answered. That's why I trusted. That's why I trust him. I saw the Lord and he heard and he answer. I saw the Lord and he heard and he answer. I saw the Lord and he heard and he answered. That's why I trusted. That's why I trust in God, my savior. You will never he trust in God my savior who will He will never fail. I saw the Lord and he heard and he answered. I saw the Lord. Would you seek the Lord right now? Would you put in his hand? You don't have to go to Egypt to get your answers. You don't have to go to the world and find fulfillment. You can find it through the voice of God leading you and the word guiding you. And he answered, "I saw the Lord.
