Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Series Recap: Apply, Rinse, Repeat
- A habit is a repeatable behavior; our repeatable behaviors range from holy and healthy to hurtful.
- The shampoo-bottle directions — apply, rinse, repeat — illustrate that holy, healthy behaviors are not one-and-done: faithfulness is built by coming back again and again.
- Last week: habits shape our identity — a new you emerges out of your habits; doing the same old thing and expecting different results is insanity.
- James Clear's Atomic Habits: focus not on what you want to achieve but on who you wish to become.
- Big works for God start with small repeatable behaviors — one man teaching one Bible study one person at a time.
- Small gains compound over time like daily market gains: don't quit God over one bad day; get back up tomorrow and make your gain back.
The Grind: Work Out Your Own Salvation
- Tonight's question: what keeps us from anchoring new habits in our lives? The first answer is the grind — what happens when inspiration evaporates and the novelty of a new practice wears off with no big results yet.
- Successful athletes, leaders, business people, and people of God all had to push through the quitting point; you have to stay at the wall long enough to punch a hole through it.
- You can't cheat the grind: a main calling of the Christian is to persevere and embrace the season of the grind.
- Paul told the Philippians to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling — salvation is God's free gift, but living for God, staying disciplined, and forming godly habits take daily work; like Paul, we die daily.
- Obey not only in the pastor's presence but much more in his absence: punch through the grind outside the four walls of the church, in the lonely car and the closing-in home, not just in the worship service.
- The grind is what grows you — like progressive weight training, you work up load by load until you reach the goal.
Scriptures: Philippians 2:12
Waiting Through the Grind: David, Joseph, and Jesus
- David waited an estimated five years between his anointing and its fulfillment; overlooked by his own father and left tending sheep, he went right back to the sheep after the anointing instead of growing arrogant — and his day came because he didn't quit in the grind.
- Joseph received his dream of greatness at 17, was sold into slavery, lied on, and forgotten in prison; Genesis records he was 30 when made overseer in Egypt — thirteen years of waiting until God remembered him at the appointed time.
- Jesus spent his first thirty years obscure, with no miracles, power, or audience — but the grind with no measurable results translated into greatness at the appointed time.
Scriptures: Genesis 41:46
Becoming Is a Process
- In Christ we are new creatures and old things pass away — but some of the becoming is a process; people become at different stages, seasons, and times.
- Your commitment to the process determines your progress; the small things you do every day are that commitment, and small investments compound into interest and momentum over time.
- Like Nick Saban's coaching: commit to the process, play the full sixty minutes, and let the scoreboard reveal what the process produced — get your eyes off the scoreboard and back on what God is working in you.
Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:17
Systems Trump Goals
- The second thing that keeps us from anchoring new habits is our systems: goals are the results you want to achieve; systems are what you repeat day after day that leads to those results — you get what you repeat.
- A weight-loss goal is derailed by an unchanged eating system; a goal without a system to get there is a pipe dream.
- Becoming a prayer warrior happens by putting prayer into the daily routine and praying when you don't feel like it, until one day you wake up considered one.
- Your life does not gravitate toward the level of your goals; it gravitates toward the level of your systems — your walk with God rises or falls with your daily system of connecting with Him.
- His own system: most every morning without exception in his chair — praying through the tabernacle plan, meditating, reading the Word and the book he is working through — because his goal is to be a man of God.
- In football, winning is only a byproduct of a system of plays perfected in practice when nobody is watching; don't be surprised when goals start happening because you did what it takes to produce them.
Behind Every System Is a System of Beliefs
- Samson had a system of poor repeatable behaviors: he never set out to underachieve — his goal was to be Israel's deliverer — but he gravitated down to his system of compromise, breaking his Nazarite vow in the vineyard, with dead things, with the wrong marriage, and finally with his hair.
- Bad habits repeat not because you don't want to change but because you have the wrong system for change.
- Behind Samson's system of compromise was the belief that he was the exception to the rule — he could still feel God's presence and perform, until the compromised system caught him and he ended up grinding in a mill without his eyes.
- Behind Daniel's system of prayer was the belief that he was totally dependent on God: facing the lions' den, he opened his window and prayed as his custom was.
- The loaded question: what do your systems and habits say about your beliefs? Show me your systems and habits and they will tell me your beliefs.
Daniel Delivered, Samson Blinded: The Contrast
- The Daniel reading: the king himself testified, 'your God whom you serve continually' — Daniel served God not just on Sundays or Wednesdays but every day, and the king believed He would deliver him.
- Daniel was taken up from the den with no injury because he believed in his God: his system was prayer, and his system proved his belief.
- The men who accused Daniel were cast into the den themselves, and King Darius decreed that everyone in his dominion tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, the living God who delivers and rescues; Daniel prospered in the reigns of Darius and Cyrus.
- Against that stands Samson in Judges: the Philistines put out his eyes, bound him with bronze fetters, and made him a grinder in the prison house — Samson's system of compromise cost him his calling and ultimately his life, while Daniel's system of prayer saved his life in a strange land at a dangerous time.
- The quality of our lives after this COVID-19 season will strictly depend on the quality of the habits and systems we implement now — don't get distance from God in this season; draw close to Him and anchor to repeatable behaviors.
Scriptures: Daniel 6:16-28; Judges 16:21
The Closing Charge: Change the Equation, Fit the Pattern
- If you want a different outcome you have to change the equation: one plus one will never equal five — the plan of God and the plan of salvation are not complicated, and we err when we try to reinvent the wheel.
- Don't adjust the pattern; adjust yourself to fit the pattern, because the pattern never changes: get committed to a system of obedience to the Word — devotion, prayer, fasting, faithfulness, paying tithes.
- Becoming is a process: get up every day, put your best foot forward, and you will become who God called you to become if you stay true to the processes of the Word of God.
- His closing prayer asks God to activate something in our lives and make us reevaluate our systems and habits, since that is what we are going to become.
- The one-thing challenge: find one thing this week — maybe tonight — that you can change, and repeat it day after day; one thing at the root can be the thing that separates us.

i'm excited to continue our series tonight's series on habits it's it's been one of my i guess one of my favorites yet challenging and provoking me as an individual to uh consider and look at uh certain behaviors in my own life not necessarily you know not sin but things that you know a quality of life here in the here and now can be better if we make necessary changes somebody say amen i know we're living and i know we're we're a pilgrim passing through but i do believe that we as individuals can have a quality of life here and now that we can make ourselves productive we can make ourselves effective in the body of christ and just in life in general so i think what what i've been teaching is very practical and very helpful if we will allow it
we've learned that a habit is a repeatable behavior in your life if you want to know man i've just got this habit of doing you know why you you say that you have a habit of doing is because you you do it repeatedly it's something that comes out or comes through you we've learned that we all have repeatable behaviors in our life that range from everybody say holy healthy too hurtful holy healthy too hurtful and to illustrate a habit for the last two weeks i've referred to the directions you will find on a bottle of shampoo the typical directions for shampoo on the shampoo bottle are along these lines apply rinse and repeat everybody say that with me apply rinse and repeat very very simple isn't it it's really not that hard to apply rinse and repeat washing your hair is a repeatable practice it's not one and done somebody say man washing your body ain't one and done either per week either way like practicing good hygiene hallelujah the same is true about healthy and holy behaviors you just don't do them once and throw the bottle away you don't come to church one time and become a faithful church member help me somebody you do it by coming sunday and coming next wednesday and coming the next sunday and coming the next you develop a habit and then you're deemed by the creator and those that watch your life as faithful as faithful and may i remind us that one day when we get to that when we get to that judgment seat of christ the words that we're looking for him to say is well done so there's doing involved well done thou good and faithful servant so it's something that and we're going to talk about this it's doing it over and over and over and over it produces something beautiful in the eyes of god
last week we learned habits shape our identity your identity emerges out of your habits how many have ever said man i i i just want to be a new me i i want something new in my life i want i want my life to be new do you know what's going to happen a new you will emerge out of your habits i said last week insanity's doing the same old same old every day and expect different results something's got to change input is going to change output i know this is very simple daniel's habit of prayer became a major identifier in his life we asked the question what do you want to be known for james clear in his book atomic habits an effective way to change your habits is to focus everybody say not not on what you want to achieve but on who you wish to become who do you wish to become what type person do you wish to become okay don't focus on what you want to achieve you need to focus on what you wish to become and i could stay there but i got a lot of information to cover we talked about that last week if you want to go back and watch last week's message i discussed that in more detail last week we also learned that is in that it is important to establish habits with small somebody say small small repeatable behaviors small well i want to do this i want to do this big work for god you know where you know how that's going to happen small repeatable behaviors what i want to reach a thousand people do you know what how that's going to start brother josh teaching one man one bible study one at a time i said it sunday i'm the one this is the place now is the time it starts with small repeatable behaviors we learn that small repeatable behaviors in our lives become habits or routine more easily although your behaviors might be small over time they will compound and increase in momentum those small gains add up after five years and 10 years in 20 years i'll use this as a as a good example on march i looked at it today at the beginning of march we'll just say the beginning of march it was really around february 20. if you would have pulled if you would have watched the the stock market begin to go down and you would have got panicked and you would have pulled your money out you would have missed what's happening right now because it did go down but a smart investor understands it don't take long for it to go back up and do you know sitting right now today after roughly approximately five months we're only less than 2 000 points from where we were when kovid started it was just small games every day small progress every day so so don't judge don't judge you know maybe today didn't didn't didn't go as well as you thought it was would but don't quit god because you had a bad day get back up tomorrow and understand you know what i'm going to make my game back tomorrow i'm going to do what's right tomorrow i'm going to have a better day tomorrow don't don't check out on god when times get rough when things are not going as you really thought they were going to go is this all right in a corporate world there's a japanese term called keizen k-a-i-z-n i looked at this word today as i began to study the book atomic habits it's a concept that it's a concept that relates to companies making continuous small improvements every day the key word here is improvement not perfection you got to catch that the key word is every day we're going to make small improvements and small improvements every day end up producing habits that are going to produce a destiny that you've dreamed of you're going to become who you thought and what you asked god this is who i want to become but how i become that is going to start by making small improvements every day every day every day
so tonight what keeps us from anchoring new habits in our lives what keeps us from anchoring new habits in our lives if you're taking notes this is what i'm going to teach tonight may be some of the most life-changing material that i've taught thus far in these two two lessons everybody say the grind the grind often gets us what's that mean the grind the grind happens when the inspiration evaporates and the novelty of that new practice has worn off whatever you've been trying when the new wears off and you still don't see the big results that you were looking for it's called the grind when the inspiration when the inspiration evaporates some people say that the most effective form of motivation is progress so it's hard to keep going when we don't see progress at first anybody in here want to say amen to that right now let's remember that the most successful athletes the most successful world leaders the most successful business people and yes the most successful people that have ever lived for god had to push through the quitting point they had to push through that moment of where you just wanted to throw in the towel and quit now let's get real tonight i'm trying to help us it's that grind that you got to push through it's that wall that barrier how many remember uh in 2016 if you were watching uh at least if you was watching fox news and i'm not going to get real political here but there was a saying there was a moment in the election that the the that the news commentator said that there was a there was a hole in the blue wall anybody remember that i remember the commentator said that that president trump now that he punched a hole through the blue wall it was one of those moments that i didn't think that they were going to win that state and i didn't think that it was going to happen but it was they punched a hole through the blue wall let's take that spiritual there comes a time in your life there are walls there are obstacles that you have fought and you have faced that you've just got to stay at it long enough that you're going to eventually punch a hole through that wall and that grind that's prevented you that wall that stopped you that they may say you'll never rise above your past you'll never be happy you'll never be fulfilled you'll never be used of god you stay with it long enough and you push through the quitting point you're going to make it through to the other side but here hear me tonight church you can't cheat the grind you can't cheat the grind one of the main callings for a christian is to persevere to crash through the quitting point and to embrace the season of the grind
philippians 2 and 12 therefore my beloved as you have always obeyed not as in my presence only but now much more in my absence work out your own salvation with fear and trembling hallelujah now listen to this don't despise the work you are putting into your salvation because greatness is sifted through the grind i know that was a that was a mouthful don't despise the work you are putting into yourself now we all know you can't earn salvation there's no you can't purchase it it is it's the free gift of god by the blood of jesus christ we have access to to the throne we got access to his grace and mercy however why would paul put this to the church at philippians work out your own salvation with fear and trembling there's some work living for god there's some work staying on course there's some work being disciplined there's some work forming godly habits that are going to keep us not attracted in walking after the flesh but walking after the spirit you've got to work at it i don't want to burst anybody's bubble it's not a one and done you gotta work at it every day you get up you you've got to be like paul i die daily i made up my mind i'm gonna live for god i've gotta die every single day and make it through the grind i've got to punch my way through the grind hallelujah we've got to work out our own salvation and what i love about paul and i when i read this it kind of just it almost was as though as long as paul was in their presence they were living for god as long as paul was at church everything was fine but when the cat was away the mice like to play i believe that could be why paul put it in here now beloved as ye have always obeyed not as in my presence only hear this much more in my abs so basically what i would like to say is we should be punching through the grind outside the four walls of the church just as much if not more than what we are right here it's it's easy to punch through the ground when the beat of the drum and the the sound of the the keyboard and the drum the bass and the guitar and we're all in here brothers the brothers sisters and sisters worshiping god and we we're feeling holy those doodads from the top of our head to the soul of our feet but what about when we're in the loneliness of a vehicle driving down the road maybe you're in a home that feels like the walls are closing in and it would be easy to not punch through the grind it would be easy to give into temptation but paul was saying don't you don't you just obey when i'm around you obey when i'm not around and you work you work you grind you never give up you work out that that that salvation with fear and trembling hallelujah man it's some of what you're going through right now some of you and i don't know your struggles i don't know everything you're going through but i will tell you this the grind is what grows you what you're going through right now is what's going to cause you to grow you mean the hell and chaos i'm going through right now pastor you mean all the multitude of ques you mean ever the grind up yes if you'll hang on it's going to grow something in you that could have never been produced had you not endured the grind of where you are hallelujah hallelujah the grind is what grows you the grind is what makes you who you are by no means and you look at my physique and know that i'm not a i'm not a weightlifter i don't go to the gym often you weren't supposed to say that's right brother dallas i'm not as strong as some of you men look like you got pythons on the side of your arms on the side of your back that's just not me now put a golf club or a fishing reel in my hand now we can go toe-to-toe with some of that stuff but uh what what but if i'm going to get better at something brother dallas i got to practice if i'm going to get better i've got to put some effort in it you're not going to go to the you're not going to go to benders and and get on that get on that bench and lift 300 pounds on your first time there more than likely unless your brother sparks he might could do it maybe not hardly but you know what if i want to live 300 i've got to learn to lift 150. and then i got to learn to lift 175 and then i got to work up to 200. 210 man i broke the 210 barrier then you're gonna get to 240 then you're gonna get 260. and lord willing if you keep working and you you stay disciplined and you you get a regimen of diet and exercise and you know intentional focus you know what believe before you know it you're going to be at the goal that you had hallelujah the grind is what grows you but here's the frustrating point is when nothing seems to be happening god what are you doing i've been waiting i've been i've been asking you i've been faithful i've been this and i've been anybody ever been there besides me am i preaching to anybody tonight for some of y'all i'm fedex i've come to the door to deliver you a package tonight because i feel like i'm right i've been in some of your vehicles today is that all right let me help you i've come to help you tonight i'm not here to beat up on you and that's never my intention but sometimes i try to come across in a way that's very helpful
it is estimated that david there was five years between when david was anointed to be the future king of israel and when it actually happened five years so five years he had to come in and be anointed he was forgotten in the beginning he wasn't even in the original lineup he was like second second fiddle it's bad when your daddy don't even think that here they are samuel no no that none of these is the ones i'm looking for jesse you've got any more well i i i've got one out tending sheep but but he can't be the one he's too young he's too rudy he he go go get him i i want to see him follow with me he's out there tending sheep doing what he's supposed he's just in the grind he's just going through his day he's serving like he always does every day he's tending sheep he's doing everything that he's dead he told him he was being submitted he was being a and he walks in the room and if i could you know hopefully one day we'll get to talk to samuel and ask him about that encounter and hopefully jesse will be there and and you know we'll we'll be able to uncle jesse what what what happened why didn't you think david was qualified i don't know i i just figured these boys right over here were more more qualified more they're they were older they were more mature i thought that would be what samuel was looking for but god said i wasn't looking for what they had i was looking for what was in him but even after the anointment even after the ceremony of anointment you know what david could have done i've been anointed king he could have got high and lifted up he could have walked around with a little tendency of arrogancy that hey i'm the king i've been anointed by samuel boys y'all get out of the way here i come but you know what he did he went right back to the sheep and started tending sheep she started getting ready for started getting ready to kill a lion with his hands and a bear with his hands and a giant with a rock but one day his day did come but he didn't quit in the grind joseph was 17 years old when he had a dream of greatness from god he was sold into slavery in the same year in genesis 41 46 we'll not go there for for reference but it's there for your reading we learned that joseph was 30 when he was made overseer to the king of egypt you do the math it doesn't take long 13 years he had to wait he had to go to prison he had to be lied on he had to be forsaken forgotten in prison only to be remembered by god at the appointed time wow let's step forward into the new testament let's applaud jesus first 30 years with no miracles no power no audience you can't tell me there wasn't a grind there you knew i mean we don't have record per se but for the first 30 years he was obscure there was no recognition there was no sign of of him being the messiah almost no one even knew who he was or noticed him but the grind with no measurable results translated into greatness it just took 30 years to one day at the appointed time but what if he'd got bored in the carpenter shop what if he would have abandoned what his calling and purpose was for his life and in his life and said you know what i want to be like all the other boys i want to be like all the other people in the in nazareth i'm just going to be one of the boys no no no but it took 30 years and then all of a sudden all of the grind all of the all of the temptations that he went through all of the measures of loneliness and not fitting in and being alone and all of that played way to something great happening in the life of jesus you have listen to me church you have to break through the grind
second corinthians 5 and 17 therefore if any man be in christ he is a new creature old things are passed away behold all things are become new some of the becoming is a process i'm going to say that again some of the becoming is a process we're becoming that's that that's like uh you're on the phone i'm coming over to your house well when you hang up the phone you're not translated there you're coming it may take you 30 minutes to get there but you're coming just because you're you're not you're not uh bewitched i dream of jenny or you know just twickle your eyes or something and twitch a little bit and you're there no no no let's talk about this if you get this becoming is a process you've got to work out your salvation with fear and trembling because everybody becomes at different stages different seasons different times hallelujah it doesn't make you greater than anybody it doesn't make you diminish from anybody it's called becoming it's a process that's why we work with people on different levels that's why there's there's things that there's commitments that we commit to and there's things that we do and there's things that that it's part of the process now you don't start you don't start your job today and know everything there is about your job it's a process every day repetition you learn don't hear me oh my god i feel so there's so much revelation in this place don't lose your commitment to the process your commitment to the process will determine your progress small things you do every day is a commitment to the process and what you're committed to will eventually end up producing progress and i don't have a nick saban those of you that know nick saban his coaching style you've heard him say we're committed to the process there's things we do every day we don't worry about the scoreboard we play the full 60 minutes and at the end the scoreboard is going to reveal what we've done in those 16 we followed the process hallelujah maybe it's time we get our eyes off of the scoreboard and get back focused on the process we want to win but what about the process we want the ultimate end goal but what about the pro what is god working on in me what's god preparing inside of me hallelujah that's right remember this those small investments compound into interest and gain momentum over time
so what else keeps us from anchoring our goals to our lives everybody say our systems our systems i said the grind what keeps us from anchoring new habits in our lives is the grind but what else keeps us from anchoring our goals to our lives is our systems goals are about the results you want to achieve systems are the things you repeat day after day that lead to those results systems how are you going to get there what's your goal i'll never forget in leadership classes when i was with verizon that would be one of the things that they here's your goal what's your goal well we want to sell 500 iots this month well that's a pipe dream if you don't have a system to get there we're going to sell 500 well how are you going to do that what's the system that you're going to follow to get there i'm going to help you tonight you get what you repeat you might have a goal of losing weight oh lord brother guzman help me out here um you might have a goal of losing weight but your system of eating can easily derail your goal can i get them oh yeah do you know to lose weight you got to change eating habits but i want to eat what i want to eat brother sparks and i don't want to i want to lose weight i want to eat all them carbs and all them starches sister and i want them garlic mashed potatoes and all beef strong enough all this stuff and then when you when you look at how much sugar and how many carbs and all that goes into it and i'm sitting here wondering no wonder i can't lose weight i'm not help the system that i'm on ain't working ain't that right that right sister britt that's why many of us how may have ever tried low carb i may have tried weight watchers i may never tried slim slow no slim fast slam slow that's what i'm good at but you might have a goal and i know i'm being comical with that if you've got a goal you've got to have a system that's going to assist you to getting to that goal well i want to become a prayer warrior that's the goal all you ladies in here getting up early 5 45 6 o'clock my wife's been rolling out of the bed praying and i'm like okay all right you know it's been rough not really but yeah but you know how you're going to become a prayer warrior start praying day now you don't wake up on monday and become a prayer warrior that takes time that takes discipline that takes getting in the getting in the trenches and praying when you don't feel like praying but the goal is to become a prayer warrior so you got to put prayer in your daily routine every day and you know what you're going to wake up man i'm a prayer award i'm considered one of the prayer warriors hallelujah your life does not grow man i hope you is this okay i hope you all those of you online i hope you're enjoying this as much as we are your life does not gravitate toward the level of your goals your life gravitates toward the level of your systems you show me your systems and i'll tell you if you're going to get to your goal i can tell you right now i ain't going to lose 20 pounds in the next month i can tell you that right now because my systems don't align up for that my systems don't line up to get to that goal i would have to change my system to get to that goal i can tell you another one i ain't never gonna become a vegetarian if the lord will help me me and brother lockhart make a pledge we will never become a vegetarian but if that was my goal my whole system would have to change the way i thought the way i processed my desires my cravings for food and you know a bone-in filet mignon a bone-in cowboy rib oh jesus have mercy it would just have to change and you know what i'm not willing to sacrifice that system therefore that's not my goal come on okay my size doesn't gravitate toward my goal to lose weight my size gravitates toward my system of eating and exercise my walk with god does not gravitate toward my goal to spend quality time with god my walk with god gravitates toward my system of spending quality time with god what's my system what's my daily system of connecting with god and if i were to ask some of you i can tell you every morning you're going to be praying the tabernacle plan every morning i'm going to be in my chair and i'm going to be meditating and reading the word of god a book that i'm involved in praying most every morning if not every morning without exception it's a system that i have in place it's my alone time with god it's my time of of meditation it's my time of of studying and searching and putting in because my goal is i want to be a man of god you got to have a system that's going to produce the goal of whatever it is that you want systems trump goals you got to just you got to get this systems trump goals i'm excited about your goals i'm excited about your goals related to your relationship with god your family your health your finances but systems trump goals goals are the outcomes you want but systems determine whether that outcome becomes reality or not what's my system going to be i want my relationship with my wife to to to grow i want my relationship with my family to grow i want us to to grow together you know what that's going to take what would you say a system would be for for a family unit to grow closer together what would you say the one ingredient that you must have in that it's got to be commitment pray quality time spending time in that quality time together prayer commitment those are by product but you've got to get together and you've got to spend time together to produce that it's got to be there's got to be whatever the goal is there's got to be a system in football you have the goal of winning the game but the goal is only about the outcome and that's winning you can't win just because you have a goal of winning if you're going to win a football game you have to have a system of plays and you have to be prepared to execute that system of good plays by repeating those plays many times in a practice facility when nobody's around perfecting those things in practice and you know making mistakes and tweaking it and working and you know what and i've already said this in some ways you work that process long enough winning is just a byproduct of a system that you put in place when nobody was around no cameras for the for the world to see no stay no fans in the stands cheering you on it's just you and god it's just you and god working on your system oh you know what if you do the systems don't be surprised when goals start achieving don't be surprised when your goals start happening don't be surprised when god's just blows your mind because he blows your mind why we really shouldn't be blown because we've been doing what it takes to produce where we're at
let me illustrate this father 7 42 everybody okay in our first lesson i contrasted two people two biblical characters samson and daniel sampson wow a system of poor repeatable behaviors in his life while daniel had a system of positive repeatable behaviors in his life samson did not set out to live a life of an underachiever his goal was to be the deliverer of israel but samson didn't gravitate toward his goal he gravitated down toward the system he had created of poor repeatable behaviors as i've already said systems trump goals samson's system was a system of compromise he compromised his nazarite vow by being in a vineyard he compromised his nazarite by touching dead things we rejoice in the fact he tore that line apart but he went back and touched the dead thing that he should not have touched his systems were compromised he compromised his israelite vile by dating and marrying the wrong individual he compromised his nazarite vow by cutting his hair do you see that system of compromise and notice that samson's life gravitated down toward his system not up toward his goal let me let me just be very plain and help you bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don't want to change but because you have the wrong system for change and your system is derailing you the changes you've so desperately looked for your systems your thoughts your mind is causing you to get derailed every time you try to get back on track simpson didn't quite understand this daniel on the other hand had a system of positive repeatable behaviors and daniel's life gravitated up toward his system if you want results in your life set a goal then stop focusing on the goal and start focusing on implementing a simple sustainable system we call that habits here's my last point behind every system let me say it like this behind every system of actions are a system of beliefs behind samson's system of compromise was the belief that he was the exception to the rule why he'd shake himself and he'd feel the presence of god i must be okay because i who i can still tie a thousand fox's tales together and get the job done i can even carry the gates of the city to the top of the hill what he did not understand was eventually the compromised systems would catch him and eventually destroy him he would reside to grinding in a meal without an eyeball in his socket grinding grinding grinding but wasn't by choice it was by force behind daniel's system of prayer was the belief that he was totally dependent on god they're telling me they're going to throw me in the lines then you know what that man did he went as his custom was open up that wind and begin to pray god if i'm going to make it out of this line then it's going to be because of you not me that was his system that was his habit what do this is the toughest loaded question what do your systems and habits say about your beliefs show me your systems show me your habits it will tell me your beliefs
daniel 6 16-28 i'm going to contrast the two characters and we'll let you go home so the king gave the command and they brought daniel and cast him into the den of lions but the king spoke saying to daniel your god whom you serve continually listen to what the king said he will it's it's something to be said when the king has more faith in you and knows what your god is capable of doing than many times than we do daniel listen look at this but the king spoken your god whom you serve continually not just on sundays brother josh not just on wednesdays not just when i feel like serving him daniel woke up every the king had to have took notice and observed the life of daniel that he would say these words and it would be penned in scripture your god whom you serve continually he will deliver you then a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the that was the last words that the king pronounced over daniel and they brought a stone and put over the mouth of the den and the king sealed it with his own ring with the sickness of his lords that the purpose concerning daniel might not be changed now the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting no musicians were brought before before him also his sleep went from him he couldn't even sleep then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions and when he came to the den he cried out with a lamenting voice to daniel the king spoke saying to daniel daniel oh daniel servant of the living god i wonder where he got that revelation from is thy god oh somebody ought to get whom thou serve is continually able to deliver thee from the lions oh then daniel said to the king o king live forever but don't stop there my god sin is you got to imagine he's down in the lines then hey king let me my god has sent his angel he shut the mouths of the he shut the mouth of the lions that they have not heard me for as much as before him innocence he was found in me and also before the o king i have done no hurt i've done no hurt wow now the king was exceedingly glad and commanded they should take daniel up out of the den so daniel was taken up out of the den and no injury whatever was found on him because he believed in his god his beliefs was in his god his system was prayer his system proved his belief in god so daniel was taken and the king gave the command and they brought those men who accused daniel i don't know if you've ever read this before this is quite interesting brought the men who had accused daniel and they cast them into the denim lines them come on their children and their wives and the lions had the mastery of them and break all their bones and pieces and ever they came at the bottom of the den don't you tell me that god is not able to shut the lines and that that was reserved for you is actually reser it's kind of like what's going to happen in the in when when the lord comes back with a shout he's going to be bound up for a thousand years then he's going to be cast into the lake of fire and will burn for eternity all of the imps and all of the don't you that thing that was designed for you is actually what's going to be consuming him forever hallelujah but i want to continue reading and the king gave the command then king darius wrote to all peoples nations languages that dwell in all the earth peace be multiplied to you i make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the god of daniel for he is the living god and steadfast forever his kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed and his dominion shall endure to the end he delivers and rescueth he work his signs and wonders in heaven and earth who had delivered daniel from the power of the lions so this daniel prospered in the reign of darius and in the reign of cyrus the persian
that's daniel's story but judges 16 21 then the philistines took him and put out his eyes and brought him down to gaza and they bound him with bronze fetters and he became a grinder in the prison house samson's system of compromise caused samson his calling and ultimately his life but daniel's system of prayer saved his life in a strange land and at a dangerous time i don't believe that god is calling us and has placed us in this season that we've been in to just go through this covenant just go through it but i believe that there is some intentional focus in men and women during this season that you're not going through the grind as in a prison aimlessly marching aimlessly with no vision no sight under the under the ruling reign of a a cruel task master called satan but no you're finding your prayer stride you're finding your prayer time you're finding your meditation your alone time with the lord and the quality of our lives post coveted 19. hear me in the i feel this so strong to tell somebody the quality of your life post covert 19 will strictly depend on the quality of your habits and systems that you implement now what you implement now you're going to reap from in a few months what you implement now in this season of frustration in this season of quarantine and this season of wearing a mask and in this season of social distancing don't get distance from him draw close to him it's a time to anchor our lives to a system of repeatable repeatable behaviors that will set us on a course of blessing and availability in the hands of god
stand to your feet i said this sunday i want a different outcome if i want a different outcome i've got to change the equation i do not care what common core math may try to tell you one plus one will never equal five one plus one is two two plus two is going to equal four three plus three is going to equal six i think too many times we tr the plan of god really is not complicated the plan of salvation is not complicated but many times we as individuals we the old term reinvent the wheel we want to reinvent the wheel to try to never forgetting this is the pattern what do we do with a pattern make something by it if you adjust the pattern the garment will be affected but if we lay the pattern upon our lives and put our life and match it against the pattern don't adjust the pattern adjust us to fit the pattern because it never changes the pattern never changes if we will get committed to a system of obedience to the word a system of following the instructions a system of devotion a system of prayer a system of fasting a system of faithfulness a system of paying your tithes a system the list could go on and on let's get our systems in line the goal of being blessed it'll happen the goal of being fulfilled it will happen the goal of seeing your family saved will happen it may take a little time it may take process but becoming is a process every day you get up every day you put your best foot forward and you're going to become who god called you to become if you'll stick true and stay true to the processes of the word of god the ultimate pattern for success
would you lift your hand all over this room lord in the name of jesus god i thank you for your word i thank you father for what we feel i thank you lord for what is being said in the spirit right now just not my words o god but by the spirit by the spirit of the living god i pray something would be activated in our lives i pray something in the holy ghost will transition us so that we will reevaluate our systems our habits because that is what we are going to become from show me god i hear you in the spirit show me your system show me your habits and i'll show you what your goal will be in life god show us tonight reveal to us your power and your might god help us help us oh god help us become what you've called us to become as a result of the habits and the systems we have in place in jesus name amen i close this service but not the spirit of this service but i close this service with a challenge find one thing this week maybe it's tonight maybe when you get home what's one thing i can change and then repeat that day after day one thing that i can change is going to help me get to my goal do that one thing that you're going to change and start doing it every day i'm not asking you for a list of 10 things i'm not asking you one thing one thing you can do brother guzman can you find one thing brother dallas you can do one thing could it could it be that paul made it that simple this simple this one thing this one sin i'm laying aside one thing because i believe a lot of our lives could be we can get right down to the root and it can be one thing that separates us one thing that keeps us
