Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Without light there can never be a shadow

  • With a shadow-puppet illustration — hands joined to make a flapping bird, then a crocodile — he shows that a shadow requires three things: light, something that steps between the light and the picture, and a canvas on which the image can be portrayed; without light there can never be a shadow, so where a shadow exists, light exists.
  • A shadow often carries a negative connotation, but it can be comforting and peaceful: shadows give coolness when the sun hits the high points, let previous generations tell time by the sundial, provide contrast and respite from immediate challenges, and reveal a form.
  • The thing standing between the light is itself a jumbled mess of hands with nothing pretty about it, yet the reflected image becomes what we need to see in that moment; the tabernacle itself was just such a shadow — not what Israel was looking for, but exactly what they needed.

I am the way, the truth, and the life

  • He walks through the tabernacle as the shadow: the way, with the altar of sacrifice where a spotless sacrifice was offered and the laver of water, now viewed as a representation of baptism; the truth, the holy place with the table of showbread — the Word, the bread of life — the candlestick, the light of the world, and the altar of incense; and the life, the Holy of Holies, where the mercy seat was and the breath of God resided for Israel.
  • Reading John 14 from the first verse, he takes Jesus's answer to Thomas — that he is the way, and the truth, and the life — as Jesus declaring himself to be every part of the tabernacle: I am the altar, I am the laver, I am the word, I am the light, I am true worship, and the only one through which mercy could truly be obtained.
  • Since Jesus also said that from now on they knew the Father and had seen him, Jesus of the New Testament was Jehovah of the Old Testament; he had to be there before the tabernacle became a shadow, because before something can cast a shadow the light must strike what already exists.

Scriptures: John 14; John 14:1

The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world

  • There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus: Jesus is the one standing between us and the light, so that what is projected behind him becomes relevant and understood by the people in that moment.
  • Before there was ever a tabernacle there was a plan, stated in Luke 19:10 — the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost — and Revelation 13 references him as the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world; from the moment God spoke creation until the trumpet, there is one purpose and one mission, to seek and find those who need to know him.
  • Before mankind ever messed up, God already had the plan of redemption situated and prepared; the shadow of that plan was cast through the tabernacle and piece after piece of the Old Testament, Jesus stepping into the light so the people would know what was coming.

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 2; 1 Timothy 2:5; Luke 19:10; Revelation 13

Jehovah Jireh: the ram already prepared

  • Abraham was told to take Isaac — his promise, his destiny, his future, his legacy — up the mountain and give him back to God; on the way Isaac said, "Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb?", and Abraham answered that God would provide himself a lamb.
  • Abraham built the altar, laid the wood in order, and stretched forth his hand with the knife before the angel of the Lord stopped him; he lifted up his eyes and saw behind him a ram caught in a thicket by its horns, and offered it in the stead of his son, calling the place Jehovah Jireh — the Lord is my provider.
  • That ram had been alive for a while: it had to grow to adulthood and to the right size of horns to be caught in that bush — everything meticulously calculated and prepared long before Abraham ever stepped foot on that mountain; the shadow of Jesus Abraham saw that day was Jehovah Jireh, and when the future looks bleak God is already operating and building a ram to save it.

Scriptures: Genesis 22

Jonah: salvation and a second chance

  • Jonah ran from his calling, fought against what God wanted him to do, and was thrown overboard where he should have drowned; but God had prepared a great fish — kept from being caught, kept from being prey, allowed to grow and to be in that place in that moment — and the shadow of Jesus for Jonah that day was salvation, and a second chance to pursue his calling and fulfill what God had designed for his life.
  • Reading 2 Timothy 1:8, he notes that God has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but "according to his own purpose and grace", which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began, and is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
  • The tabernacle was hope and stability, pointing to better days for a people who had just left bondage; it was the Jesus they needed to see in that moment — not the form they would have recognized, but seen through their traditions, culture, history, and celebration.

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 1:8

He's already there

  • The confidence for today: before you ever arrived at today, Jesus was already in today preparing what you would need — when the children of Israel needed firelight to see by, Jesus was there; when they needed food in the wilderness, Jesus was there; when David ran up against a warrior he should never have defeated, Jesus was already there.
  • He tells of a man at the edge of a small town whom no one remembered arriving, who was simply there: knee-deep in flood water lifting an old woman onto a porch, standing beside a young father staring at a submerged car until the father found his breath, staying in a diner with a woman who had lost her job until she was no longer alone inside her pain, and sitting on the bleachers with a teenager collapsed under the weight of expectations — he did not arrive with trumpets or answers; he simply arrived with presence, already there before things got bad, a reminder that grace does not wait to be invited.
  • The shadow of Jesus is not about judgment: the call is to flip on the light in the scene of your life and let the shadow Jesus has already prepared become visible — step out from where you are, surrender hidden callings, battles, self-worth, and illness to him — because he is always on time for the simple reason that he is already there; just take a step, and God will reveal himself.

I love the atmosphere in the room. I love how God operates. How weeks ago, God, when Pastor Dan asked me to fill the pull pit Sunday, God began to speak things into my spirit. And we get to the day of and God's presence comes into the room and says, "Hey, I'm going to usher the presence in because there's a word that I need my people prepared to hear." I love how God orchestrates things there. There's no coincidences in the room when God's in control. Coincidence just simply means I've yet to trust that it's God that's doing it.

I give honor to our pastoral team, Pastor Sloan, Pastor Sam, Pastor Dan. Thank you for the opportunity to fill the pull pit this Sunday to deliver what God has laid upon my heart. I thank you. I don't know about you all. You can be seated. I don't know about you all, but I've really, really enjoyed going through the tabernacle this year. I I've learned some things that I thought I knew that I didn't know. I even pulled out old Bible college class notes that I found like one of my all-time favorite instructors, Bishop Typton.

Thank you, brother Herb. Bishop Tipton, who I know Sister Sarah knows very well, but I pulled out old notes on the tabernacle and began to really dive into those again. I hadn't looked at those in probably, well, if I say how long, it's going to show how old I really am. And but I I really enjoy the tabernacle. And when brother Dan approached me, he said, you know, we're we're going to be talking this month about what the tabernacle means to us today. And so I I would like to with your help and the help of God more so, I I would like to just share a little bit about what the tabernacle has meant to me.

I I I want to if if you can, I want everybody to lift up your hands like this. Everybody, unless you have a cast on your arm, you should be able to do this. Okay. Now, I want you guys to take your right hand, turn it sideway, or turn it around backwards like this. Keep the other hand up. And then I want you to turn this one like this, palm or palms facing you. And I want you to put your thumbs together and then tilt them up just a little bit.

Now, our our youth people know that this is a symbol that became camp symbols over the last few years of camp. You know, the the eagles and y'all probably seen something like that. But back when I was a kid, I used to do this. Does anybody know what this is? A butter. Oh, that's so pretty. A butterfly. I'm thinking something a little more aggressive that eats a butterfly. Like think of like a bird right now. What did we do? Those of y'all that are from my generation or close to it.

What did we do when we put our hands together like this? What did we find? We found some kind of light, right? And we would put our hands up in it. See, you can catch some remnant of it. And we would make it look like a flapping bird. Yeah. Y'all ever do that? Well, now everybody's done it. Hey, do this one. This is my favorite one. This is the easiest one. I learned this one when I was like three. Okay, take a hand like this. Take your other hand like this.

And no, we're not going to gator chomp. Don't do that. But I want you to put them like this. And then do just like that. What did we just make? A crocodile or an alligator. You see how easy that was? So guys, what you have just done is you have all just participated in the ancient Chinese art of shadow puppetry. I I KNOW OUR OUR SITUATION here doesn't quite allow for the shadows to really show effectively, but but once you knew what we were trying to do, you most likely understood that there were some factors as you guys declared there there's some factors that had to be in place if the reflected image was going to create the picture we were going for.

We had to have first of all we had to have light because let's be honest about THIS IDEA WITHOUT LIGHT we can never have a shadow. I'm going to let that settle for a minute because there is a SPIRITUAL APPLICATION. WITHOUT LIGHT THERE CAN never be shadow. SO IF SHADOW EXISTS that also means light exists. So without light there can never be shadow. The second thing we needed is that we needed something, in this case our hands, that would step or come between the light and the portrait we were attempting to create.

BECAUSE THE REALITY OF it is this guys, this does not look like a bird. But when we put the light in front of this, then the image on behind me, the shadow begins to change. I I need something to stand in front of the LIGHT SO THAT THE SHADOW CAN CREATE the image. I need the third thing we need is we need a canvas OF SORTS. AN AREA UPON WHICH THE image can be portrayed. We need those things. We need those things without THE REALITY IS GUYS THAT THAT THAT ALLIGATOR THAT CROCODILE IT IS A JUMBLED MESS OF HANDS.

There is nothing pretty about this. THERE IS NOTHING PRETTY ABOUT WHAT'S standing in between the light. But when it creates the image BEHIND IT IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED for that moment. It's a jumbled MESS OF HANDS. THERE'S NOTHING PRETTY ABOUT IT. BUT AS IT BEGAN TO be reflected, it becomes a clearer image that I recognize. See, often times shadow in and of itself, the word carries with it a negative connotation. However, I would like to present I mean I I grew up, you know, I didn't grow up watching Veggie Tales, but I know Veggie Tales, and I remember there was a song about God is bigger than the boogeyman, and he started talking in that song about like all the shadows are creeping in.

See, that's the view that oftentimes we have of shadow. But I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT A different perspective th this AFTERNOON THAT A SHADOW CAN often times be comforting and peaceful and joyous and celebratory. SHADOWS PRESENT COOLNESS when the SUN HITS THE HIGH POINTS. ANYBODY ever been outside in a southern summer and you look for a tree that you can get underneath, lay your head back against and just chill OUT OF THE BEAT DOWN RAYS OF THE SUN. IT IT SHADOWS ALLOWED PREVIOUS GENERATIONS TO TELL TIME.

That's called a sund dial. Ultimately, shadows provide a contrast to the environment around us. SHADOW REVEALS A FORM. SHADOW PROVIDES RESPIT FROM THE IMMEDIATE challenges I'm facing. Quite simply, when we take the time to look at the item for which the SHADOW APPEARS, THE THING, THAT SECOND PIECE THAT STANDS BETWEEN THE LIGHT AND the canvas, what we find when we do that I IS THAT IT'S NOT A BEAUTIFUL IMAGE THAT'S PORTRAYED THAT WE wish or want to see in that moment. But what happens is is we don't necessarily see when that shadow steps in what we want, but we will see almost every single time what we need to see in that moment.

THE TABERNACLE ITSELF WAS JUST such a shadow. The people OF ISRAEL WOULD NOT HAVE RECOGNIZED JESUS HAD he appeared to them in the form with which he would eventually come. THAT THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL HAD IN THEIR MIND THIS perfect image of what Jesus WAS GOING TO BE. AND YET STILL WHAT WHAT WHAT HAD TO HAPPEN IS THE TABERNACLE HAD TO COME TO PROVIDE A SHADOW THAT WOULD NOT BE WHAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR but would be exactly what they needed in that moment. Hang on to me.

I'm going. I PROMISE. INDULGE ME JUST A MOMENT. INSIDE THE GATE OF THE TABERNACLE, THERE WAS THE ALTAR OF SACRIFICE UPON WHICH A SPOTLESS SACRIFICE WOULD BE OFFERED. This area was called the way. The entrance was called the way. There was a labor of water upon which the blood of that perfect SACRIFICE WOULD BE WASHED, THEREBY CLEANSING THE PRIEST THROUGH WHAT NOW WE VIEW AS AS A REPRESENTATION OF BAPTISM. THEN WE GO TO WHAT WOULD BE CALLED IN JEWISH TRADITION THE TRUTH OR THE HOLY PLACE.

INSIDE THE HOLY PLACE WAS THE TABLE OF SHOEBRE, THE WORD, THE BREAD OF LIFE, THE WORD THAT WAS MADE FLESH AND DWELT among us. And we were able to behold his glory. Then there WAS THE CANDLESTICK, THE LIGHT, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. And I I know I'm encapsulating 12 months of teaching into just a few moments here, but understand, WE'VE GOT THE WAY WITH THE ALTAR OF SACRIFICE AND THE LABOR. WE'VE GOT THE TRUTH WITH THE HOLY place of the shoebre, the candlestick, and the altar of incense, which the word tells us that they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth, the way, the truth.

And then we reached the holiest of holies. AND THIS SYMBOLISM OF IT all came to the mercy seat where life is found. WHERE THE SPIRIT OF GOD WHICH BREATHED LIFE AND BREATHED BREATH OF LIFE INTO HUMANITY. It is where THAT BREATH RESIDED FOR THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL. IT IS WHAT BECAME THEIR REPRESENTATION. It was the very lifeblood of their culture of their religious belief. John 14 though says this. John 14 verse one. I'm going to read from the ESV. Let your hearts let not your hearts be troubled.

Believe in God. Believe also in me. In my father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, I would have told you that I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare for you, if I go, which means he's already going to be there. File that away. We're coming back to that. If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to where I'm going.

Verse five. And Thomas looked at him. Y'all know Thomas is always good for a good question. Thomas looked at him and said, "Lord, we we do not know where you're going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus, verse six, said to him, "I am the way. I am the altar. I am the labor. I am the way. HE GOES ON TO SAY, I am the way and the truth. In other words, I'm the altar. I'm the labor. I'm the word. I'm the light. I'm true worship.

OH, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. WE'RE NOT DONE YET. Don't don't clap yet. WE'RE NOT DONE YET. HE GOES ON TO SAY, "I AM THE WAY. I AM THE TRUTH. And I AM THE LIFE." IN OTHER WORDS, EVERY SINGLE PART OF THE TABERNACLE WAS REPRESENTATIVE OF JESUS CHRIST. AND HE DECLARED IT WHEN HE'S TALKING TO HIS DISCIPLES. HE'S DECLARING TO THEM, "I AM HERE. I AM A REPRESENTATION OF THAT." NOW, here's the problem. And I know I'm kind of getting ahead of myself. He goes on to say in verse 7, I'll read this, but if you had known me, you would have known my father also.

From now on, you do know him and have seen him. Wait, wait, hold up. Let's get this right. The tabernacle pointed to Jesus, but Jesus was God because he said, "You've seen him." So before the tabernacle became a shadow, Jesus was already in heaven. Before you can shadow something, the light has to hit it. Jesus of THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS JEHOVAH OF THE OLD TESTAMENT. It is proven through THE WORD OF GOD. IT WAS A SHADOW THAT SAID, "HEY, LOOK, EVERYTHING YOU'RE going to need TO ENTERTAIN ME AND TO DWELL WITH ME FOREVER IS ALREADY REPRESENTED IN THE TABERNACLE BECAUSE JESUS WAS ALREADY THERE." JESUS EXPLAINS TO those that SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THE CONNECTION AS their Hebrew heritage and THEIR HISTORY.

IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS TAUGHT AND INGRAINED AND REQUIRED OF ALL JEWISH PEOPLE THAT THEY KNOW THEIR HISTORY. And essentially it was honored and RESPECTED AS A SHADOW. BUT HE WAS THE WAY. HE WAS THE SACRIFICE. HE WAS THE TRUTH. HE WAS THE WORD. THE LIGHT, THE FOCAL POINT OF TRUE WORSHIP. HE WAS LIFE. HE WAS THE ONLY ONE THROUGH WHICH MERCY COULD TRULY BE OBTAINED. And the tabernacle is a shadow of Jesus in this world. However, there is something that is noteworthy about shadow here.

The shadow takes on the shape of the object between the light and the area upon which is projected. The projection was their tabernacle. Shadow spreads further than the original. It indicates the presences of something significant enough to cover every area in shadow. There must be something between the light that is cast and what is causing the casting of a shadow. Second Timothy 2. Y'all hang on to me. We're gonna we're gonna hit it running in just a minute. 1 Timothy chapter 2 verse 5 and 6 says this, "For there is one God.

and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. Here we are seeing a tabernacle that is a shadow of Jesus because even from the foundation of the world, Jesus Jesus is the mediator. Jesus is the one that is standing between us and the light. So that what is projected behind him is something that becomes relevant and understood by the people in that moment. UNDERSTAND JESUS WAS ALREADY IN EXISTENCE from the foundation of the world. All right. Yeah. Yeah. Y'all don't believe me. We're gonna get there.

Essentially, Jesus had to be before the tabernacle. Otherwise, there would BE NO SHADOW. BEFORE THERE COULD EVER BE A SHADOW, THAT OBJECT OR ENTITY HAD TO BE PRESENT AND EXIST. Before there was ever a tabernacle, brother Dan, there was a plan. The plan discussed so effectively LAST WEEK WAS CLEARLY AND CONCISELY STATED IN LUKE 19:10 when he said in his word, "FOR THE SON OF MAN IS COME TO SEEK AND TO SAVE THAT WHICH WAS LOST." FROM EVERY MOMENT FROM THE TIME GOD SPOKE CREATION UNTIL THE DAY THAT HE BLOWS THE TRUMPET AND WE'RE ALL CAUGHT UP INTO GLORY, THERE IS ONE PURPOSE AND ONE MISSION THAT JESUS HAS IS TO SEEK AND TO FIND THOSE THAT NEED TO KNOW HIM.

Revelation 13 says this and references him as the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Essentially, Jesus was already there at the end, pointing the way TO A REDEMPTION THAT WAS NOT YET NEEDED. TALK ABOUT PLANNING. HE WAS ALREADY ORCHESTRATING A PLAN FOR SALVATION. BEFORE MANKIND EVER MESSED UP, GOD ALREADY HAD A PLAN IN PLACE TO BE WHERE WE NEEDED, TO BE WHAT WE NEEDED, TO BE WHEN WE NEEDED, GOD ALREADY HAD IT SITUATED. and prepared. He knew he knew what would be needed and began to make a plan to redeem those that had been lost before Adam ever sinned.

God had prepared a plan and the shadow of that plan was there. Tabernacle Adam David time and again in the Old Testament a referral and a reference that where Jesus was standing in front and the people needed to know what was coming. They needed to know that there was already a plan in place and so Jesus would step into the light and allow a shadow to be cast beginning with tabernacle all these different pieces of the Old Testament. Even Abraham, see Abraham, his promise was in his hands and God told him to take up Isaac to the mountain and give him back to God.

Terrible story. Let's be real. Very, very tragic scenario until you get to the end. But in the whole thing, there's so many things about this that are challenging. But it goes on in Genesis 22 and:7 it says this. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father and said my father. He said here am I son. He said behold the fire and the wood. But where is the lamb? Where is the lamb? The lamb slain from the foundation. He was already in the works. And Abraham said, "My God's son will provide himself a lamb." I know that's semantics in English language, but judging by some of those Christmas carols we had issues with last night, I think that's acceptable.

We three kings. No, apparently they're we all right. They came to a place which God had told him of. And Abraham built an altar. built an altar, laid the wood in order, found Isaac, his son, his promise, his destiny, his future, his legacy, and laid him on the altar of wood. And verse 10 says this, "And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son." In verse 11, the angel of the Lord called out to him in heaven and said, Abraham, Abraham, he said, here am I.

And he said, lay not thy hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything to him, for I know thou fearest God. Verse 13. And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram was caught in a thicket by his ones. Abraham went, took the ram, and offered him up a burnt offering in thestead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Gyra. As it is said to this day, in the mount of in the mount of the Lord, it shall be seen.

Jehovah Gyra, the Lord is my provider. Wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on. You got to understand Abraham just turned around and saw a ram, but that ram had been alive for a while. That ram had to grow into adulthood. That ram had to be prepared long before it ever got it stuck. He had to have view. All right. As a hunter, I know that it takes the right-sized horns to get stuck in a bush. Everything meticulously calculated by a God that was already on the scene.

Everything meticulously planned to the moment OF EVERY SINGLE THING. TELL ME GOD IS NOT ALWAYS ON TIME. I TURNED AROUND. IT'S ABRAHAM. ABRAHAM. I TURNED AROUND AND HE SAW THE RAM GOD HAD PREPARED as promised. THERE WAS ALREADY A PLAN IN PLACE ON THAT MOUNTAIN. THERE WAS ALREADY A SHADOW OF JESUS THAT WAS IN THE MIDST. LONG BEFORE ABRAHAM EVER STEPPED FOOT ON THAT MOUNTAIN, GOD WAS ALREADY ON THE SCENE. HE WAS ALREADY THERE PREPARING FOR THE NEEDS OF ABRAHAM. ALL THESE SERIES OF EVENTS HAD TO WORK PERFECTLY IN COORDINATION WITH THE CREATION OF GOD.

And that day, THAT DAY, THE SHADOW OF JESUS that Abraham saw was not a tabernacle. The shadow OF JESUS THAT ABRAHAM SAW WAS NOT ON THE CROSS. BUT THE SHADOW OF JESUS THAT ABRAHAM SAW WAS JEHOVAH GYRA. WHEN MY FUTURE LOOKS BLEAK, UH, WHEN MY OUTCOME LOOKS HOPELESS, I'M GOING TO TELL YOU, GOD IS ALREADY OPERATING AND BUILDING A RAM TO SAVE YOUR FUTURE. Hold on, I got a couple more. Ever think about Jonah? Oh, yeah. Y'all know Jonah. Y'all know Jonah. Run, the Bible's runaway bride.

God told him to go. God told him to do. He messed up. He ran from his calling on his life. He fought against it. He fought it. He did everything he could to destroy what God wanted to do. Everything. Jonah drew the short straw. He was thrown overboard. Jesus, I was tossed in the water. Where Jonah should have drowned, where Jonah should have drowned, the Bible said God had prepared a great fish. In other words, let me tell you, salvation is how Jesus's shadow appeared for Jonah that day.

Hey, guess what else? The second chance to PURSUE HIS CALLING AND FULFILL WHAT GOD HAD DESIGNED AND ORCHESTRATED for his life. IN THAT MOMENT, THE SHADOW OF JESUS WAS EXACTLY THAT. Jesus was before him. HE WAS ALREADY ON THE SCENE. HE HAD KEPT THIS FISH FROM GETTING CAUGHT. HE HAD KEPT THIS FISH FROM BEING PREY. HE HAD ALLOWED IT TO GROW AND GROW AND GROW AND BE IN THAT PLACE IN THAT MOMENT SO THAT WHEN JONAH WAS TOSSED IN THE WATER, HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DROWN.

HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE. BUT GOD SAW FIT BECAUSE HE WAS ALREADY ON THE SCENE. He was already there. That plan, that shadow of salvation, forgiveness was already in motion. And God was already there. God was already there. Second Timothy 1 verse 8, "Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of God, who hath saved us. who hath called us within holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace.

Listen which was given to us when before the world began. Jesus was already given to be in the place where we needed him the most. but is now. Now, December seems fitting to remind us of this. Is now made manifest by the appearing of our savior who hath abolished death and hath brought life and immortality through the gospel. If I can get our musician folks to come, whoever's on that today, guys, the tabernacle is hope. It was stability. It pointed to better days for a people that had just left bondage.

It was the Jesus they needed to see in that moment. They they would have recognized the jumbled up broken body of Jesus Christ. But you know what they did recognize? traditions, culture, history, celebration. That's how they saw Jesus. Today, there needs to be an understanding that every situation you find yourself in, there is already a shadow of Jesus in the midst. HIS SHADOW MAY BE THE COMPASSIONATE, comforting deliverer there to pick me up FROM MY MISTAKES AND MY FAILURES like Jonah. THAT THE SHADOW OF JESUS PRESENT IN MY PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCE, MY HEARTACHE AND MY BROKENNESS MAY BE SIMILAR TO THAT OF ABRAHAM WHERE HE BECOMES JEHOVAH GYRA.

The one confidence you can have this afternoon is that before you ever arrived at today, Jesus was already in today preparing what you would need. He was already here. I have this confidence that what I face today, God already is working things for me. I I have this confidence because he's proven it time and time again. Not just in my own experience, in my own history, but I have this confidence that no matter what circumstance I come up against, Jesus is already there. Why do I have that confidence?

Because guess what? WHEN THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL NEEDED FIRE LIGHT TO SEE BY, Jesus was there. WHEN THEY NEEDED FOOD IN THE WILDERNESS, Jesus was there. WHEN JESUS WAS ALREADY THERE. OH, NO. NO. There's more. There's more. WHEN THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL AND WHEN THE SAME DAVID RAN UP AGAINST A WARRIOR HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER DEFEATED, GUESS WHAT? TELL ME. JESUS WAS ALREADY THERE. LONG BEFORE IT WAS EVER NEEDED, THE SHADOW OF JESUS WAS ON THE SCENE. Stand with me this afternoon. Somebody needs to hear this today.

You are not in your situation alone. What you're fighting against AND WHAT YOU'VE BEEN BATTLING AGAINST AND THE PULLS AND THE DOUBT AND THE FEAR AND THE ANGERS and the frustrations. Hear the word OF THE LORD AND THE PROMISE OF HIS WORD. He is always on time. YOU KNOW WHY HE'S ALWAYS ON TIME? BECAUSE HE'S ALREADY THERE. HE'S already there at the edge of a small town where the road bent and the river slowed. There was a man that no one remembered arriving. He was just simply there.

Some mornings he stood at the bus stop before dawn and hands wrapped around a chipmug, listening to other people as they spoke. Other days he walked a long way a long way around the elementary school, pacing himself to the slow steps of children who carried way too much worry in their backpacks. No one called him a teacher. No one called him a healer or anything grand. Most called him surf, hey, or nothing at all. But when trouble came, he was already present. When the flood waters rose after days of rain, fear moved faster than the river.

And people ran for sandbags and phones and for someone to blame. In the middle of the noise, the man was kneedeep in water, lifting an old woman onto a porch, steady and unhurried. When a young father froze staring at a submerged car submerged car, the the man stood beside him, not pulling, not shouting, just standing until the father found his breath again. Later, no one could quite remember when the man had entered the street. It felt like he had always been there before things got bad.

When the town lost its factory and despair settled like dust, conversations amongst the people grew sharp and testy. One night in the dim diner that stayed open too late, the man sat across from a woman who had just lost her job. She spoke in burst anger, shame, fear, till her words ran out. He didn't he didn't fix a problem. He didn't offer a plan. He simply stayed, listened, as if her pain were too heavy to hold on her own. When she finally stood to leave, she realized something had shifted and she was still hurting.

But she was no longer alone inside of it. When a teenager collapsed under the weight of expectations, grades, pressure, a future that felt like a narrowing tunnel, the man appeared on the bleachers one afternoon, tying a shoe as if he had nowhere else to be. They talked about important nothing important first. The the weather miss shot sound of sneakers on a gym floor. Gradually the silence between them became safe and the teenager cried. The man did not interrupt. He passed the bottle of water the simplest offering and in that small act for a me was a message without words.

You are seen and you are worth staying. Some said he reminded them of a carpenter they once heard about in church. Others said he looked like someone they used to know. A few insisted he was just an ordinary man in the right place at the right time. But those who had met him knew something deeper was true. He did not arrive with trumpets or answers. He simply arrived with presence. He was already there when strength was needed. He was already there when their courage ran out.

He was already there when their world began to fall apart around them. He was there before any of that ever happened. And when the crisis passed, as it often does, he faded back into a new shadow. to the rhythms of the town. A quiet nod at the crosswalk and empty chair when you most needed company. Yet people surprisingly carried him with them. They understood. It was it was as if he had only wanted to be a reminder that grace does not wait to be invited. It's there before feet.

The shadow of Jesus is not about judgment. The shadow of Jesus is simply to say where you are in right now, the physical ailments you're experiencing, the chaos in your world, would you just flip on the light of that vignette scene of your life and allow the shadow that Jesus has already prepared to become visible in your life because he's already there. It is there. That shadow of Jesus is there before. When the light illuminates it, he's already there. And so, guess what? Because he's already there.

He's right on time in this moment. Hey, guess what, Jonah? It don't matter where you've messed up before. God's already prepared everything for you. He's a God of a second chance. Hey, David, you made some bad decisions. You made some bad choices. Guess what? I'm already here with a preparation. I don't claim to know what people in this room are experiencing, but what I do know is this. as God began to deal with me through this message and this this word today is that there are some that are in the middle of a struggle and all you see is the darkness.

There's some that are battling your own challenges with selfworth, your own value and validity. There's others in here that are dealing with illness that you can't seem to see your way out of. Can I tell you again this afternoon, God is already there. All he needs you to do is step out from where you are. Step through the proverbial doorway of your scene of your life. Flip on the light and allow the light of Jesus to illuminate exactly what you need today. I wonder if there's anybody in this room today.

Oh, I feel it so strong. There are people that have hidden away callings in your life. Not necessarily you'll stand behind a pullpit, but God has pulled you. He's drawn you. And you've hidden them away BECAUSE YOU'RE LIKE, "GOD, I'M MESSED UP. I'm broken. I'm not worthy." HEAR THIS TODAY. GOD IS ALREADY IN THAT SCENE with you right now. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS FLIP ON THE LIGHT SWITCH AND SURRENDER to him and allow God begin to work. There are some IN HERE THAT YOU'RE LIKE, "GOD, I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BIGGEST BATTLE OF MY LIFE.

I CAN'T SEE MY way out." Would you step out from where you are? Come to this front, lift your hands, and surrender to God RIGHT NOW BECAUSE GOD IS ALREADY HERE. HE just wants to show you the shadow of himself that he has for that situation today. I encourage you, step out of where you are, FIND YOU A PLACE RIGHT NOW THAT YOU YOU GOT TO MOVE a little bit from where you ARE AND ALLOW GOD TO REVEAL HIMSELF TO YOU. YOU GOT TO CHANGE PERSPECTIVE AT TIMES.

He's already there. There's no fear. You have no fear, no doubt you have to come with because the loving mercy of God that was slain from the foundation of this world is all ready here. He's always on time. Never been a day, never been a minute, never been a moment that he was not there. Come on, talk to him right now. Talk to him right now. Oh, allow the light of Jesus, the lamb slain from the foundation of this world. Allow it to saturate the room right now.

See God FOR ALL THAT HE IS FOR YOU IN THIS MOMENT. He could be your healer. He could be your deliverer. He could be your confidant. He could be your shoulder to cry on. He's already been there. He's always there. Always there. God, I don't know what my next step is. I don't know what step to take. It's okay. Just take a step and God will reveal himself. I don't know what to do with this chaos. Oh God, it's okay. Just take a step. He's already there.
